We all the rights sold to Lockheed with the creation of P3D? Notice a fantastic developer like PMDG will not develop product for P3D anytime soon.

An ideal scenario would be to reassemble ACES under new Microsoft leadership and develop an SP3 that makes the program 64-bit and DX10 or DX11 compatible, and making the program take advantage of today's CPUs and GPUs wouldn't hurt either.

I've been using MSFS since 1989. Right now my flying is 75% FSX and 25% XP10. If developers like PMDG embrace XP-10, and FSX remains the same, things will gravitate toward XP10 and its follow-ons.

Just my humble opinion...

Thing is wouldn't recoding FSX into 64 bit render all addons redundant/not useable?

That's if it can even be done.

Groundhog Day.

If it wasn't for the devs, FSX would be dead to me.

FSX will go as far as devs can reasonably and technically take it.

MSFS

If FSX stopped right where it is now, I could see myself exploring and perfecting my sim experience for many, many years.  The number of airplanes that sit in my hangar virtually unused is amazing.  I still have very limited technical skills on the inner workings of FSX.  I could spend a lot of time on that alone.  I have dozens of utilities that I have purchased that I'm sure I am using only the rudimentary surface abilities for those.  Every time I think I want to delve into something new in FSX, I tell myself, "Nah, I'll just jump in the NGX and learn about in flight failures."  RSR wasn't kidding when he said the NGX could take years to learn.  And that's just one aircraft.  Incidentally, since I'm retired, I have a lot of time to spend on simming, so I know a lot of you guys are in the same situation I'm in.  Everyone still has a LOT to learn.

FSX will be a viable FS platform well past 2020. Think of all the projects in development from all the developers that we are aware of, then think of all the projects we don't know about yet. Even with the known PMDG projects, 777, 747v2, DC-6, and all their related SPs and expansion packs, we are talking at least 5 years worth of stuff. Same with A2A, RealAir, Aerosoft...etc. They have years and years of projects lined up. I am really glad about that too because if MS were to crank out another sim, developers would inevitably have to spend time producing addons for the new platform, instead of keeping their resources focused on addons for an established FS platform.

Also think of all the breakthroughs that A2A, VRS, PMDG, Aerosoft, Milviz, RealAir and so on have come up with to get around things that were previously thought impossible within FSX's framework. VRS is on the path to turn FSX in to a combat sim. A2A has done amazing things with accusim, things that FSX couldn't do by itself. Anything that is 'impossible' in FSX can be overcome as the talented minds in this hobby have proven.

I don't think FSX will just die. People including myself have tons of addons as I stated before and just enjoy flying this sim, however, I do believe devs see the potential in other sims like P3D. Does anybody on this thread or reading this thread have and are using P3D V1.4 and also has FTX ? What I would like to know are the difference's between the too sims as far as stability, frame rates, graphics, migrating 3rd party software into the sim? Just in general the difference overall. I notice a dev has a migration tool for migrating FSX addons into P3D. Any comments welcomed.

Why does FSX need a future?? It has a present. You can keep using it like you are now for as long as you want.

Some things will get improved by the community but why does there always have to be something else expected to come along and take its place? It doesn't need replacing.

Because people in this hobby always are chasing the "latest and greatest". Its true of hardware, base programs, add-ons and even freeware. Many think the latest is "best" and they need to have it until the next things come along. They never quite get there, but they keep on trying. Reminds me of a dog chasing it's tail.

Oh so true..... :Applause:

Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Allegedly, Aerosoft was rumoured following the lack of interest in 'MS Flight', developing a new Flight Simulator but I have heard nothing since.

They couldn't find an affordable engine suitable for the job and in the end they chose to stick with FSX and X-Plane where they consider X-Plane 10 to be the future....

I agree with the above, there is plenty of "mileage" left in FSX. I still have alot to learn and pushing '70'!! :drinks:

so many planes, so little time. :)

Expresses my predicament exactly! Well said!
