Will Microsoft Flight still work after GFWL closes?

Featured Replies

If I understand this correctly then, it'll be impossible to buy new copies of Flight when gfw shuts down?

Its all a very weird decision to me to shut down GFWL in the way that they are. Its a major break in trust with millions of consumers, and seems to signal abandonment of the PC market, despite some mumbled words about still being committed to it. How will people ever have confidence in Microsoft's support of their future purchases?

I myself have a small pile of stuff purchased from them over the years brought in the middle of great fanfare, only to have support be dropped like a brick with nary a word, and that's getting to be an old, old trick.

Can I buy a Microsoft product and have confidence they wont just wander off like a kitten chasing butterfly's?

And what about the partners being burned by this?

So strange.

I completely agree, this is really bad PR from MS.

Patching some games first to not need GFWL or use a local GFWL login database, or making them "freetoplay with all DLC" (which wouldnt have hurt MS Flight since they are not making money on it now anyway.), would have actually been able to improve PR for them. (giving the customer the feeling that it will be oke if there is a change in strategy, gives you faith to buy something)

Very difficult to believe this procedure from a software company.

Can you still install any DLC or install it from Steam after GFWL closes and how would you be able to save the game to transfer it to another computer?

You not re-installing FSX will teach 'em, that's for sure. (Please note that none of this affects FSX.)

Actually, your assumptions are completely incorrect.

My copy of FSX is downloaded and installed via GFWL. Even with the installer files saved locally (which I have done), their installation routine runs through GFWL. There is no stand-alone installer option.

I'm not trying to "teach them" anything... I'll simply have no legal option for reinstalling FSX.

Merging this with the other thread about this subject.

Thank you.

There is no such thing as buying Flight. It's free. The PC GFWL marketplace was shut down Sunday apparently, and it is not possible to purchase DLC for Flight anymore.

I can still go on their website and click the download link. It works for me, but I'm never downloading that crap on my computer.

Yes, basically I meant will the base package still be available for download? If it won't I guess we really can kiss any future plans goodbye.

Do you have a FSX registration key with you?

That, and the existing DLC in the future.

If we reinstall Windows after GFWL shuts down, will we be able to get Flight and associated DLC installed again?

A (legal and valid) key is (legally) useless without (legally) installable software.

The full version of FSX is able to be downloaded freely in many places on the Internet. Your legal and valid key allows you to activate your FSX.

No sir, I am not suggesting any, cracked, modified, or reversed engineered version of FSX.

I am referring to clean, legal, untouched versions of FSX.
