DX10 Fixer released!

Featured Replies

Product page seems to be missing some information.

- compatibility with fly Tampa sceneries

- compatibility with Flightbeam sceneries

- compatibility with FSDT KLAX and KORD (or any other FSDT sceneries

- compatibility with VC shadows for PMDG aircraft

- compatibility with WOAI aircraft or any other 3rd party AI aircraft

- and more

For $35, I would want to know all this information ahead of time by reading the product page and what the product actually does and doesn't do.

Hunting around websites and forums for .doc files, .pdf files, and combing through blog posts to find these answers is unprofessional considering the asking price.

And before the supporters descend down to flame any criticism, this was all my opinion.

It's silly I have to say that at all.

Seems if you don't validate everything you say by adding the words "in my opinion" in some form or another, whatever you write is automatically assumed as you trying to state facts for everyone.

Thanks for that read.

So would it be fair to say that there are very few FIX differences between the Free patch and the Fixer program?

No, Jim: the patches were repairs - and some enhancements done to the ShadersHLSL files - mainly the General folder *.fx and *.fxh files: the DX10 Fixer is aimed at correcting errors to scenery and aircraft, which is a different kind of bug entirely, the outline of which is in noted in para.#5 of this pdf.

Commenting on your last note #178.. Active Sky.. built and sold a very good FSX weather application as the main business component of a successful FSX Addon developer, and did so in exchange for money, and, I assume profit, in exactly the same manner as does General Motors.

The software industry is always in a perrenial state of continuous renewal, better tools, better systems, better hardware, and most softwares come with bugs either built in, or with techniques which could be improved upon for any number of reasons - resulting in a need to patch. FSX is one such software.

Active Sky got paid for their AS sales and that made FSX better. Steve is no different. So please - cease the continued line of insinuation, innuendo and cheap shots, at what are the efforts of a pretty dedicated (small) group of guys that like/love what they have in DX10, and be thankful that there are guys like us around doing this, and you just remember, too - that we are the same guys that paid your paycheck for many years.

Remember that ALL patches/fixes and even some UPGRADES were FREE? Guess not.

Yes but DX10 Steve did not release FSX !!! ........ seriously how can't you understand that?

You're talking as if Steve is mean as he released a patch for something he previously sold, then charged for the patch.       Steve built a utility that fixes FSX in terms of DX10.

Perhaps people should stop using the terms Patch and Fix in this thread as Jim is clearly struggling to understand this product, and seems intent on thinking that Steve is selling a patch to something he's already sold....

=========================

Anyway, I just bought the DX10 Fixer (it's not a patch Jim, ok?), and it is absolutely fantastic!!!! ..... every one of my european sceneries is now working perfectly.    DX10 is lightening fast and super smooth.    For ATI users, you do have to still use Radeon Pro when using DX10 even with the Fixer (for proper vsync set-up) but it's no real issue.

This cost £20 in British money and that would get me 5 beers in town.......  this utility has given me a transformed sim, and without the bloated stomach, flatulance and bad jokes, from the beer!

Although that info might be missing in the product page, there is enough info ( I hope) on this thread and the DX10 forum for you to make a judgment whether DX10 is for you or not.

I have been posting little fixes to make Fly Tampa work, and Flight Beam works perfectly with the little work around I posted.

Not sure what else one can do, but you need to base your decision maybe based on what has been posted so far, or wait for more feed back.

Look at it from my point of view, if you show enthusiasm for the fixer, you get  grievous bodily harm of the ear hole, because the price is to high, or Dx10 is crap. Goes both ways, and thanks to Jim, it has caused some division. Not what I expected with this release.

PMDG aircraft work great in DX10. As for cockpit shadows, you will need to ask PMDG, as they did not implement it.

Well said Julian.

You know, there is a little formula that could be applied here that could prevent any further conflict ;

i. If you feel $33 is too much; don't buy it.

ii. If you're happy with DX9 and don't want to try DX10, or you've tried it and didn't like it, don't buy it.

iii. If you believe there's a conspiracy going on and DX10Steve used to work for Microsoft and was actually the developer of FSX, and now he's patched it for DX10, but he's charging for the patch, and he's really a lizard-based alien, don't buy it.

iv. If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.

I like your sig Dave

Thanks. What will you see in the sim with daen/dusk smoothing set to 0? What visually are you losing?

You wont get the transitional blending of the day and LM textures as daylite begins and ends, it will just jump from one to the other as the clock strikes

FSX+ 3DS Max, CS5.5

4790K @ 4.8K Asrock Xt3 - 16GB 1866 CL-9 - NV 1070 GTX - 240GB Intel SSD - 2TB Barracuda - Win10-64

Near Silent Noctua D-14 3-Fans - Two - NFA-15cm and - One NFA-14cm  All @ 700 rpm - Bitfenix Shinobi Case - (Non Delided CPU)

We'll you know what, I'll take the plung, the only thing I got as far as scenery is orbx stuff and of course FTXG and a bunch of high end payware airplanes, 35 bucks what the hell. Hope it works out.

Thanks for clarifying that. Could not remember what happens with that disabled.

Pretty defensive towards someone trying to learn the differences between the latest release/fixer/whateveryouwanttocallit from the file that is available here at AVSIM.

BTW Active Sky has absolutely nothing to do with this or with myself, so you can pull that one out real quick, Paul

No Dave, I was only referring to the AS reference. We all know there is no difference between a patch, fix, utility, program, add-on, or whateveryouwanttocallit. All that matters is what it does for your experience.

Gentlemen and Ladies , been simming for  16 years. Have a great system. Never seen any thing to compare with this dx10 and steves work. Hats off to him. I fly at between 35 low fps anf 90 fps , everywhere in every add on aircraft I own with all sliders at far right at 100 ft or 25000 ft. I own tons of add ons but  do not fly airliners. Marvelous Steve "you are the man"

Unfortunately, this is not the only Fly Tampa airport which is incompatible. This is truely disappointing and I'm 'wondering' why this has not been mentioned by Steve and his supporters.

Harry

Hello Harry,

I have found a solution for the black runway lights, which is by disabling the 8 bit texture fix in the general shader configuration section. For the papi and approach lights, I had to remove them from the addon scenery folder.  by doing this, the airport will be working day and night....ILS only :)

+1 I care less if this fixer was alot less or alot more ill pay the price just to support the developer and our hobby  but there is some info that should be post it up front ...

Agree whole heartedly with this, in fact you and I use practically the same stuff other than the Katana and 172. I want to know this before paying. So far it seems the Fly Tampa stuff is a no go.
