DX10 Fixer released!

Featured Replies

Thanks Badfinger. Do you or anyone else know if AI planes from UT2 work in DX10?

Sent from Samsung Galaxy Note 2

UT2 does work, been using it for long time in DX10. Sometimes there lights flicker, mostly when in clouds. I consider that minor. Havent bought Steves DXfixer yet. I bought the ORBX Bozeman scenery this week not knowing Steves utility was coming out. I hope to get some of the WoAI planes like the FEDEX planes to work since they are white in DX10.

There is a vast gulf of difference between "works perfectly" and "broken"

I haven't heard of a single addon that "doesn't work" with this fix.  what I've been hearing are reports of some errors here and there, mostly minor glitches, I'm happy with my purchase.

but if you want perfect, this isn't for you.  don't spend your money.  enjoy all the problems you've already resigned yourself to dealing with in dx9 fsx.  (you don't have a perfect sim now, you've just become accustomed to the limitations)

Agree whole heartedly with this, in fact you and I use practically the same stuff other than the Katana and 172. I want to know this before paying. So far it seems the Fly Tampa stuff is a no go.

Someone said KBOS will work if you use a CFG tweak, but I don't know what effect it will have, I didnt understand it.

It changing the dawn/dusk smoothing off. Which means straight from night to day with no smoothing of the light.

Fly Tampa apron having zero lights at night is more than a minor error IMO. Having to put the dawn /dusk smoothing off to prevent lake effects on Flightbeam and Fly Tampa is IMO more than a minor error. Granted there are not many but having two of the big three scenery designers for North America airport scenery not display correctly is a no go for me. Wish it wasn't so as I wanted to get this. Silk don't know if VC shadow show in pmdg stuff yet as well.

I don't really mind the Dusk/Dawn thing, just tried it at KLAX; looks ok. However, I want ALL my textures to look "normal" while using DX10 and Im not convinced that it will for many airport's and Im not willing to throw $35 at it just to find out, if it was like $18 maybe I would.

I won't comment on Steve's marketing strategies - they're irrelevant. Either we feel a product is worth the price or we leave it on the shelf - end of story. Neither do I care whether 99% of it has been previously released in an earlier form for free (for which we should be *grateful*), or whether it's called a "patch", "fix", or "upgrade".

Is it good value? That will always depend on the buyer. For me, it absolutely, totally, is worth every hard-earned cent [of mine].

Some people here say that it will only appeal to seasoned DX10 users. Not true! I've posted loads of eye-candy DX10 shots over in the ORBX forums and the impression I get is that people are amazed that such quality of detail can be achieved whilst actually gaining in stability and smoothness. Many have been put off by abortive dabblings with DX10 in the past. Not everyone is prepared to spend so much precious leisure time researching the latest "fix" amidst loads of contradictory information, so wrapping everything in one decent GUI will "convert" many people. It did me.

Well done, Steve. I don't care how much money you make out of your product (as long as you buy a nice plane with it LOL). Good luck to you and to DX10 Fixer.

For all those wondering what it's all about - or whether it's worth it or not: I've been simming since "Aviator" on the BBC Micro and have bought countless add-ons for countless sims. After a while, you get to recognise the "keepers". DX10 is a "keeper". Though it can't really fix ALL horrific legacy coding, to make DX10 so easily accessible to so many people puts it in the FSUIPC class.

Just get it.

I want too, but...

I don't want to buy a $30 peice of software that makes "some" thing look better but at the same time makes my $100 invest in FlyTampa sceneries worthless.

Anyhoo....... I've got a question;

Are any ATI users using this, and is it still necessary to have to use Radeon Pro to get vync, or does this Fixer provide ATI vysnc without having to use Radeon Pro   ?

Radeon Pro required for vsync. Yes.

Although that info might be missing in the product page, there is enough info ( I hope) on this thread and the DX10 forum for you to make a judgment whether DX10 is for you or not.

I have been posting little fixes to make Fly Tampa work, and Flight Beam works perfectly with the little work around I posted.

Not sure what else one can do, but you need to base your decision maybe based on what has been posted so far, or wait for more feed back.

No, there isn't enough information. And even if there was, going through 10+ pages of a thread to find the bits and pieces I need to know before dropping $35 is NOT what should be expected of the customer.

All of this should be on the product page, end of story.

I did, however, read through this whole thread so far, and still don't know if my FSDT scenery is supported.

I have no idea if it's confirmed from the developer that VC shadows do/do not work in PMDG products.

As far as Flightbeam and FlyTampa, I missed your fixes, but I'm pretty sure I didn't see anything in this thread about CYUL from Fly Tampa.

I use this scenery a lot, and need to know if this product supports it.

When looking at the product page, no where does it say if it's supported or not.

If he's going to charge $35 for a DX10 conversion program, then he needs to list EVERYTHING the program WILL or WON'T convert to DX10 so it's usable, and on the product page.

Potential buyers need to make informed decisions before spending money (at least the smart ones do), and they need complete information to do that.

Agree...I'm going to hold off until some of the Tube guys flying into these US/CAN airports give us some feedback.

Steve has been working on the Fixer for allmost a year and I have beta tested allmost 20 versions till the point to where it is now.

It began with patching each airport /scenery seperately.

Look how easy it is now.

People can choose to use the free patch or the payware Fixer.

The Fixer goes much further and under the hood there are lots af processes.

Like I wrote before : a great program and imho a new milestone for FSX.

So far, CYUL and Dubai need the papi lights  to be removed. Tampa works fine. no issues All FSDT airports and flightbeam airports work fine.

I am just looking at Buffallo, that has no issues either . LOWW and Midway next

The dawn dusk work a round is no great deal. Never noticed it that much being turned off, so I can live with that

And if your worried about having dawn smoothing off, try it in DX9, and see if you live without it.

Edit. Ok, Midway is fine, onto TNCM and LOWW

TNCM and LOWW pass ok. Lgav, no apron lights.

So, to sum up, the only FT airports that need adjustment are CYUL and Dubai., and LGAV

AL USA FT, FSDT, FB airports work as advertised.

I never thought the DX discussion could reach such heights and ignite such temper. I'm quite entertained   Go on, last man standing wins the argument!
