Strawman alert.

Patch.  Semantics.  Silly argument.

Scott

Is that a fact, to be published into the constitution of every country in the world ......... or just one man's opinion.

As a developer yourself, would you not find it frustrating for someone who knows absolutely zip about the development cycle and what was involved in bringing a product to the market, to just spout up "not with $32"   ?

If it solves the issues that it claims it does (which I don't doubt), and allows proper DX10 use with the benefits in frames and visuals that that brings, it's worth twice that.

People cry for a "new simulator platform" .......... well, this could be it.        Not worth $32?

I can't see how someone can just make the blanket statement that this product simply "isn't worth" the minimal price being asked. Especially someone who has been heavily involved in the support side of commercial add-ons for MSFS.

I agree that for the casual simmer just now trying DX-10 for the first time, and happy with FS-9, there would probably be little need to spend the extra money.

For anyone who really appreciates the advantages that DX-10 brings to the table, in terms of improved graphics, improved frame rates, and much improved memory management (i.e., far fewer OOMs with complex add-ons), this fixer is a must-have.

I have no wish to go back to DX-9, and yet, prior to adopting DX-10, I have invested almost $1000 in add-on airports from a variety of  developers over the past 3 or 4 years.

Up until now, none of those add-on airports have been useable at night in DX-10 mode.

After applying the fixer, All of them are, (at the very least), "functional" at night. Most are fully fixed.

Invest $32 to get full use out of a previous $1000 investment? Hell yes! I'd consider this program well worth the price if Steve charged $132 instead of $32.

Price is insignificant if the value is there. But, since there's no try before you buy, then one can't learn its value. To imply that one will not buy it because it's because one can NOT afford it is ignorant and insulting.

This is a patch to fix DX10 preview, but there's no guarantee that is going to work for all airports. Congrats if it does, but please don't insult my intelligence and say to me that this "patch" is worth (price wise) the same amount as FTX EGHI or any high quality payware airport, because IMO it isn't!

At least it's clear that a nice cut is going to the seller.

Hello and thank you for the dx10 fixer, just purchased it and i am having the below problem in Flytampa dubai.

Untitled_zps6545ad32.pngThank you in advance for your assistance.

Unfortunately, this is not the only Fly Tampa airport which is incompatible. This is truely disappointing and I'm 'wondering' why this has not been mentioned by Steve and his supporters.

If any add-on developer charged $32 for a patch would many of you still embrace it?

That makes absolutely no sense in this context Jim. The "patch" is not to Steve's own product. Rather, he has performed a technologically astute patch-workaround-extension-correction to the partially-finished DX-10 subsystem in FSX itself.  Work that ACES never had a chance to complete due to Microsoft's closure of ACES, and abandonment of the FS franchise.

I'd agree with your point of view if it was Microsoft itself selling the patch to a product they left partially-finished. But Steve is a completely independent developer, who (in effect) is "cleaning up someone else's mess".

It was a monumental effort of software engineering, that was done mainly by one individual.

It's not like a developer correcting a few lines of code here and there to add functionality or fix bugs in his own software product. (For which he would have access to all the original source code - most definitely not an advantage that Steve enjoyed in coming up with this fixer).

In addition, by creating this product, Steve has made it possible for the works of dozens of other developers - both commercial and non-commercial to now be fully functional in FSX DX-10 mode, where previously they were not.

Same question I asked above - still no answer.  I know it's a thrill to engage in hand-to-hand forum combat about whether the price is right and whether it's a patch or a miracle or what have you, but could somebody please share some factual information about whether it's easy to uninstall and revert to DX9?  Would like to know that before I start mucking with a DX9 installation that, frankly, performs well for me.  Thanks!

I really just should ignore your troll posts (as should anybody else since it seems that is all you do around here), but for the sake of argument:

It isn't a patch to Steve's own faulty or incomplete application. He has spend a great amount of time to create a fix for faulty DX10-shaders within FSX. He never earned any money out of FSX, so why should he fix another application from another developer for free? You make it sounds like he is asking money for fixing something that he did wrong in the first place.

We could wait for MS to deliver an update, but since it isn't supported anymore and there is no developer team behind FSX any more that will never come. So a lot of people who enjoy the benefits of running FSX with DX10 are more than willing to buy this, since this eliminates almost every gap between DX9 that still existed in some respects. And of course on top of that it fixes the FTX Global lights and gives you the benefits of DX10 over DX9 like better VAS management (lesser chance of an OOM error), a smoother experience, VC shadows (in default planes and addons if modeled by the developer), and better looking water.

For some of us that is money very well spend.

For you it is not, because it seems you don't like things that could improve the FSX experience for people (overclocking, DX10, tweaking advises). In Holland you would be called a 'Calvinist'. That stands for people who are against anything that makes life enjoyable, everything should be in Gods way and pleasure is not something to go after. You've been around here longer than me, and I really wonder if you have always been this way. Your motto doesn't seem to be in sync with your posts, at least not in the last couple of months.

Alan. Yes, easy to install and uninstall. The tool makes backups of files it modifies.

Also, it makes it easy to switch between Dx10 and 9.

*scratches head* I'm uncertain if you are being negative on purpose or are playing devils advocate in a way that is designed to be obstruculous. Maybe, this gives you gratification?

However, I'm not going to argue the point... Then again, I am prompted to point out that I agree, paying for a service patch in its true sense is not very constructive for the developer or customer. I'm sure it would be condescending of me to point out that MS did not release this software, or maybe you were unaware of that fact?

Have a good day :)

Harry

Harry, problems have been reported and the information has been available on Steve's blog since september 10

There also seems to be a problem with FlyTampa’s airports where still no lights appear on apron at night.

I use ATI and as I have three 21inch monitors i use it exclusively on Eyefinity. I use Radeon Pro but to be fair I don't have it set up to run at startup so its only on, when I remember to switch it on (Oops) the point being, that when its on, I don't really notice any difference! Now this may be because I don't have it set up properly (sure I have though) and have not experienced any vsync issues. Can go into more details if you want to PM me. :)

Thank you matey, appreciate that.

Heading over to pull the trigger now, so will see how it goes.   I'm still expecting to need to use Radeon Pro for a couple of things, so it's no show stopper, it's just that one extra thing to run, set up (I usually have to start it before each flight, or else I don't get vsynx in DX10 with my ATI 7850 2GB).  I'm always looking to be able to run less programs!

Cheers.

to those complaining about the cost, just think what Steve did initially for free, had he not released that you may think differently, I have bought it and in total for all the guy has done its a good price
