DX10 Fixer released!

Not worth $32.

Is that a fact, to be published into the constitution of every country in the world ......... or just one man's opinion.

As a developer yourself, would you not find it frustrating for someone who knows absolutely zip about the development cycle and what was involved in bringing a product to the market, to just spout up "not with $32"   ?

If it solves the issues that it claims it does (which I don't doubt), and allows proper DX10 use with the benefits in frames and visuals that that brings, it's worth twice that.

People cry for a "new simulator platform" .......... well, this could be it.        Not worth $32?

Definitely one man's opinion no matter what he says.  What's the saying??  "One man's junk is another man's treasure".  Value of anything is definitely relative to the person judging said value.

Also, in no way do I mean that this is junk or a treasure.  I don't own the product but am watching this topic and the others in relation to this product intensely as a potential buyer somewhere down the road.

For those griping about the price, based on a few preliminary tests,  the new filtering in combination with the clouds change is brilliant! I was able to turn off my NI SGSS AA filtering and still maintain excellent image quality. Now I can fly through rain and clouds without a hickup (never got my GPU over 48%).

Steve just upgraded from a GTX680 to a Titan! Thanks buddy!

Whether a product is worth the price and whether or not it should be that price are two different things.

I agree, well said Kevin.

It is shameful that some people are happy to blame Steve for "not allowing everyone to try out DX10 with this" ...... what a load of baloney.....  And telling him it should be sold for $15 ............ sure, devalue the man's skills and time too ...... I guess you lot think he should only be entitled to make 'minimum wage' money for his talents huh?

Honestly, some people are like spoilt kids ........ If you cannot afford it, that's a shame, but it doesn't mean he should be giving it away.  I cannot afford a new BMW 3 series, but that doesn't mean they cost too much.

Alain's spot on - if he had charged $64 people would have said "oh man, $32 would have been spot on"......

Just give up with the serious sour grapes

Anyhoo....... I've got a question;

Are any ATI users using this, and is it still necessary to have to use Radeon Pro to get vync, or does this Fixer provide ATI vysnc without having to use Radeon Pro   ?

Ok, fixed the reflective water on the ground issue. Dawn/dusk smoothing =0 in the fsx cfg. So Flight beam KPHX , KSFO FT KBOS, KTPA works, so the others should.

Will you please explain "fixed the reflective water on the ground issue". I still have a lot of land shimmering on the water in DX10. Does the dawn/dusk=0 have anything to do with the fix?

Thanks

Chances are, if he sold it for $17 instead of $34 he'd have made a lot more money, so "devalue the man's skills and time" - not really.

You're taking a very simplistic view on that.   If that were the case, why do PMDG not sell their 777 for $5? ...... think how many they'd sell

....... if he sold the product at too low a value, his load in terms of support workload would be too high.    More customers = more resource and work required to support them;  not just product issues but sales support, etc.

That's why even software (although its just numbers, controlling pixels on a screen) still has a relative value.

How could this be out for so many hours without me noticing...

I think some are not considering the cost to Steve of using an e-commerce distribution site like FlightSimStore.  They are taking a cut that I am guessing is fairly significant, perhaps $12 (I honestly don't know) but Steve may have thought 20 bucks for this is fair only to find out later the cost of selling through the distribution channels and then he had to make a difficult choice.  At then end of the day, just like everything else in this world, each person needs make a decision as to whether they find this valuable or not.

And FTXG $99.00....to each his own....

Yeah, but FSXG is truly FSXI...but they couldn't advertise it as that...so they came up with the  FSXG.moniker. Lame, I know...but no matter, we all know what they meant, Alain.... :)))))))    (tongue-in-cheek) :)

No, I'm not really. Obviously there's a lower bound on what you would sell a product for and rather complex market models are used frequently to determine the price in order to maximise sales. You get to a certain point where reducing the cost only increases sales by a negligible amount - I didn't really think I had to explain I understand that in my post as it's rather obvious.

You have a point in regards to the workload for support, but isn't part of the point of this product to try and encourage more people to move over to DX10, and to get developers to support DX10 properly even though it's a niche market within an already niche market? $34 doesn't help in that aspect, and nor will it encourage developers to properly support DX10, because why waste time supporting it if sales are only going to increase marginally and you overall make a loss? At $34 you've priced out the people using DX9 who have no interest in using DX10 (majority of the market) and so DX10 will just remain a niche within a niche.

Again, complete and total opinion here.  No better or worse than "is this product worth $32" opinions.  It's all relative to the person using/buying it.

I agree, and stated that aspect so early on in the thread. His choice in how  to market, has significantly inflated what could have been what he would have sold from his own website, etc.

When you come to think of it....at what cost would all ORBX products have been reduced to the end user, if they DIRECTLY sold their products exclusively on their own website. Why they don't do this, beats me! Of course in any ORBX product, FlightSim.com is represented....financially.

Again, complete and total opinion here.  No better or worse than "is this product worth $32" opinions.  It's all relative to the person using/buying it.

Of course, always will be.....

Spot on, Dave.  Simplistic and based on what, exactly?  Do you know what his overhead is for each sale?  Do you know what he spent to get distribution set up?  Do you know what he's estimating for support time?  Do you know what his development expenses have been (much less his actual development time)?  Do you know what he'll spend on accounting, on taxes, on...?  Do you have any idea what his break-even point is?  Somehow because it's software, some people seem to think every sale is pure profit right out of the gate, so the lower the price, the more money you'll sit back and rake in.

It's like the old joke: "We really don't make any money on each sale, but hey... we'll make it up on volume."

These price arguments really get tedious.  If what you're saying is: "It's not worth it to me." then fair enough (and in fact, I've not yet decided if it is for me either).  But if the argument is an entitled: "He's charging too much (ie more than I want to spend, but I really want what he's selling anyway) and that's not fair or right or...",  please.

Scott

Edit: Luke, I see while I was typing you already responded to Dave's comments.  Sorry, but as stated, your comments did seem a bit naive, and my question would still stand - on what are you basing your price assumptions?
