Prepar3d V2.0 entering beta

Recommended Posts

So if you don't hear from LM in two days after your request for Beta tester, then do we assume we are not selected?

I think thats what the auto e-mail said

No, DX11 wil NOT eliminate this limit, any 32bit app will be bound to the 3gb limit. Its only 3gb that is available for VAS and not 4gb.

2GB is the limit running on a 32-bit OS like XP with no modifications

3GB is the limit with a 32-bit OS and the /3GB switch

4GB is the limit running on a 64-bit OS

I routinely hit 3.6 - 3.8+ GB VAS usage at the end of a flight so that's certainly possible.

While DX11 itself won't help, the complete rewrite of the rendering engine is a huge opportunity for the developers to optimize the engine with regards to VAS usage. FSX/P3D 1.x are very bad at releasing memory during a flight, which causes VAS usage to keep growing. DX11 is also inherently more efficient with VAS usage. Offloading tasks like shadows, particle systems and even mesh tessellation to the GPU will further reduce VAS usage.

If it were fabricated, they would have said that P3D would be 100% 64 bit.Hook

I thought the same thing. I was looking through the list expecting: "64 bit architecture" or something. Surprisingly, the list is somewhat realistic, until I saw " cloud shadows".

Not impossible  , used to be there before Aces took it off..

LM could start with selling only the high priced professional versions and the developer version to the early adopters. Some of them will certainly not care too much about a high(er) price if the promotion material is right!

Than after a couple of month they may bring out the student version.

Or maybe the other way around? Start with the student version and let them do the “gamma” testing (is there something like this? Or is it called “open-beta”?) and see if there are any issues with it before they go to 2.1 and start selling it to the professionals at a higher price with some more features (e.g. the military stuff).

Who knows!

And while were into the roundabout maybe paraphrasing...

maybe they will just quit and close the whole subdivision like MicroHardLuck does

Like I said earlier. I have a feeling this list might be false.. I wouldn't be surprised if v2 was more of an sp3. Am I the only one who finds the list a bit too good to be true? Perhaps fabricated?

+1

I feel the same way too, let us hope we both are wrong for the sake of competitiveness. The more there is, the better for all of us end users!

It certainly looks too good to be true. But I think the information there is too deep for some random troll to make that up. It definitely took some time to make that list as it is.

If it was a German troll, he did a great job. I mean really hats off, that must have taken much out of one's life to conjure up a list of dream features to tease us.

That list is way too detailed and involves way too many mundane features to be fake. If it's fake then the person who wrote it is a huge douche.

I sincerely hope that list is legit, I don't mind having an alternative to XP10 which is the sim I currently use. If P3D lives up the the challenge then I'm in.

Of course, the list may very well be legit, but having all of those goodies for the first release of V2 is another thing though.

Doesnt it make sense that if LMs priority was to first remove bad code, optimizing here and there, effectively revamping the engine and making a huge improvement, having a more balanced approach in duties between GPU and CPU, that would then open the door for alot of features to be used and implemented and without a performance hit or at least very little. Look at what DX10 does with bloom. Fantastic yet no hit on performance. DX11 probably does the same and more. I agree that that list would be hard to fabricate. Looks quite detailed. In fact some features do say may not make this version but the foundation is there for a future version.

I applied for beta too but didnt hear anything after more than a few days. So I guess im out as well.  :(

Not often that I find such comments quotable, but I make an exception in this case. Very funny, and true too.

I hope they've released their beta to companies for them to test their products on it. I don't fly default airplanes or use default scenery any more. Any companies that develop aircraft and scenery would need to test. Also, popular add-ons like REX, ActiveSky, Accufeel, FSUIPC, LINDA, traffic programs, flight planning software, etc.

They have. We know Orbx, Aerosoft, REX, Carenado, and others are beta testing. You can bet any developer of salt is on the team.

Active Sky is a P3D supporter as well. I'm sure their new product is being designed for it.

A our friends from XP10 would add: And all those poor souls over at P3D getting so excited about DX11. Let them have their DX11. I enjoy 64bit ...

I just upgraded from DX9 to DX10 and it was worth every cent for the next months to come. We will see when LM will come out with it and if we can make easy use of it right from the start.

We have to wait and see if the add-ons written for FSX/P3D 1.x are compatible with 2.0 (and if so if they can be run with the old installers or if the developers need to produce new installers, patches, etc. to run them). So I am afraid that it might take a little while until we all are happy simmers eager to learn to fly!

They can keep crowing over 64bit. It's all they have to hang on to even when comparing to FSX's vast feature list compared to XP10's massive flaws. Buts its 64bits of flawed simulator!

I wouldn't mind it if they weren't so dang arrogant about it, as if 64bit magically makes a good simulator.

I'm going missing, why some of you suppose it's a fake features list?

Another thing, no mention were made upon:

- sloped runways? it's a shame for a new sim," x-plane like" would be great improvement

- better ATC, we will get the same of FSX default?

- AIRAC database upgradable to be in sync with addons?

I wonder if implementing DX11 in v2 would help get rid of the blurries and autogen pop-ups once and for all, this is really something I can't stand.
