i wonder that the $2300 one gives you?

That's for military training. Normal simmers should buy the pro. I think its $200.

Hmm - terribly sorry if this has been asked and answered many times before...

Do I really have to purchase the $200-license? It's quite alot of money - or doesn't it matter which license I get? (I'm not enrolled as a student, nor in any way work or studying within aviation)

We are all students of life haha.

I beg to differ, I have not see ANY post that were not civilised and without respect for others so far, by that I mean somebody attacking another poster personnally for his opinion, if I missed one PLEASE I would like to see it so I can be corrected, and if some were disrespectful to others THEY should be reprimended and not the whole community, that is how I feel about it, post may get hot in a sense because of disagrements between posters, it was and will always be like that on forums but I have not see any name calling or else.

When referring to the lack of civilised respect of opinions, preferences, or a developer's legal agreements, are you nreffering to the pros or the cons? Avsim's forums Avsim's rule, I understand that and I will summit myself to it but I would politly point out that discussions on the forbitten subject are not as bad as Flifgt's discussion were, easy to go back and read them, so what's really under the hood?

Alain, I was not referring to recent history. Avsim has not taken this step based on the last week or so of postings, but based on a long string of frustrating posts by some members of our community over an extended period of time. They have been reprimanded, yes. But Avsim also has to respect the Commercial stance of developers (Avsim does have some obligations as owners of the site and what is posted here) and we cannot be sure that more posts of the like will not come up. So it is simple, these are the rules, and we all move on.

Discussions of the performance of the software, experience, pros, cons, suggestions, all welcome. Discussing the developer's Licensing in any way, shape or form is not.

Geewiz, I answered the guys question and directed him to the website for pricing to make up his own mind. I didnt get into the EULA.  Seems as though helping someone is banned too and or you get chastised for it.

Well sure, but it could also be a waste of $60.  After all the money and tweaks I've put into FSX I have finally got it running very well and stable.  Only time will tell, I suppose.

Isn't LM's refund policy 60 days, so within that 60 days if it's not for you then you con obtain a full refund.

You can always try it out and make use of that if it's not for you.

Oh look, another licensing discussion. I really don't understand the need to convene a morality committee anytime a developer drafts a new EULA.

How about everyone just keeps their own purchasing decisions to themselves and cut the AVSIM staff a break?

I say they should just let everyone fight it out on a GTA V deathmatch haha.

The issue is that alot people are mad about PMDG not supporting P3d, and saying their products can't be used in P3d. This is because PMDG fears legal issues in the future as their products are for entertainment and P3d isn't. Mods if my post breaks any rules feel free to edit it I was just trying to explain to the best of my knowledge

Looking at the LM Web site, a developer licence for Professional Plus is 19.95 / month. So $2300 gives you 115 months, which equals 9.5 years.

I suspect V3.0 will be out before then, and if you find it's not for you in the first month, it's only cost you 20 bucks.

The $200 Professional Version only gives you 1.5 years at $9.95 / month. That makes a Professional Plus developer licence look very attractive if you need the functionality.

With the release date now announced for this Monday, 25th Nov, I'm sure that the licensing debates will soon end and will be replaced by more useful discussions on the new sim itself, and whether it meets the expectations of our demanding community!

[Moderators and Tom, I'll try to make this my very last comment on this.]

Hopefully I won't get in trouble for this post, as I've been struggling with this and I really need to correct my previous post:

It is for honest non students (those of us not enrolled in a college as an undergraduate, nor a k-12 student).

The idea of the academic licence is to give enrolled students a price break.

I may be a bit more literal than most in how I understand things like this, but it seems pretty clear if you read the way this is spelled out on the P3D comparison chart.

I NEVER meant to imply that anyone who purchases the Academic License and is not an undergraduate student (or a K-12 student) is being dishonest; nor was my intent to morally judge anyone.

I suffered a severe head injury when I was little, and it left me extremely literal and totally honest (to the point that I'm incapable of lying) . . . which causes me issues ALL the time, as to how I perceive and understand things. And I feel that my understanding in this was off a bit.

From yesterday's Prepar3d News:

What are the license options and pricing for Prepar3D v2?
To see which version or license of Prepar3D® is right for you, please reference the chart below. It provides the license and price options, as well as some acceptable or recommended uses for each license type.

What I finally got this morning was the: "some acceptable or recommended uses for each license type." part.  If LM's legal department wanted to specifically exclude anyone from ANY of the licences, they would have worded this much differently.

This morning, on LM's P3D forums, Wes Bard stated in THIS POST: "We will not be answering "which license should I buy" questions on these forums. Our legal team have drafted EULAs, and licensing charts on our website which you can review."

I now finally get that LM is clearly leaving it up to each individual to determine which licence is appropriate for them (which my anal/obsessive/literal brain HATES, but that's my issue).

So I just wanted to clarify where I was/am coming from and I was worried that my previous post may have offended some people here (which, I assure you, was never my intent).

If I did offend anyone, please, please accept my apologies.

Ok, I'll shut up about this now.

I just don't understand the discussion. The pricing is clear as day and night .

Arwen you are a sweet person (and also my favorite elf as you know).

I won't discuss EULAS or pricing, I only think that the guys at LM are using a wonderful business model.

They want to sell an advanced simulation platform, with a variety of air, ground and sea stuff, they need a dynamic engine, they need scenarios, models, they see that it is too much.

So they buy ESP, and come out with an improved FSX. In this way, thousands of crazy simmers all around the world turn into a free testing group for LM! By reading this forum and that forum LM know what users want, what works and what needs improvement, all of this with a maniacal precision. Simmers are also an inexhaustible source of ideas, some of them are brilliant. Everything for free.  Such an incredible value!

And there are the aircraft and scenery developers! With Orbx we will soon have the whole world! All this come for free from the world of simmers!

On this basis, they build their high-level (high-price) simulator with this incredible mass of people and accessories behind: by sure such addons need industrial-level validation, but they are already there to be tested!

These genius have realized that in building a sim they could combine the accuracy of a professional product with the vastness of a community like ours.

The kind of customer they are not really interested in? Wal-Mart people (with all due respect), casual gamers, all those who do not really share a true passion for this game. All the others are welcome.

Don't you think this explains both the licensing system and the no-questions-asked pricing?

And don't you think this is a fantastic business model?

No need to explain, although it did cross my mind that its better to be totally honest as a result of your injury than totally dishonest as a result of it !!!
