The kind of customer they are not really interested in? Wal-Mart people (with all due respect), casual gamers, all those who do not really share a true passion for this game. All the others are welcome.

If you are a Wal-Mart casual gamer or do not really share a true passion for this game the slogan “Low prices. Every day. On everything” does not apply to you as defined in Wal-Mart's EULA, please read it carefully as this game is not for everybody contrary to the rumors.

And so started the infamous Wal-Mart EULA discussion ...

And the testers even pay for being those ones ...

Imagine this scenario: a new scenery is created for a certain region. It looks good, LM would like something like that in their pro version. What do they do? Wait. Wait until customer reports come in that are enthusiastic about performance, show no complaint with object placement, no OOM's, nothing at all (otherways it's just the time it takes the producer to patch it).

At this stage, the scenery is eligible (cost is 0 till now), and they can do their internal industrial and military quality assurance, make contact with the producer and find an agreement.

And yes: we pay.

Pure genius, isn't it?

But I think the pro's on our side are spectacular, so I'm quite happy with this.

i dont buy again for little shadows or lightning ,sorry the engine have other biger problems than this for pay again.

What nonsense. There are way more advances than just shadows and lighting. Besides, did Microsoft give you an upgrade discount from FS2004 to FSX (or anytime before that?) No, they did not.

Oh look, another licensing discussion. I really don't understand the need to convene a morality committee anytime a developer drafts a new EULA.

How about everyone just keeps their own purchasing decisions to themselves and cut the AVSIM staff a break?

Hi!

does anyone know how long the academic licence is valid? Only the time you are studying or forever?

Also wondering what they are going to do with future builds prizing(3.0,4.0?) do we have to pay for them also?

Typically the license would be valid until a new MAJOR version comes out. So if you bought 2.0 and they had a few fixes in 2.1, 2.2, etc - it would still be valid. Going to a major release like 3.0 would require a new license and fee.

Academic licenses I have seen in the past apply to when you purchase it so if you spend $$ and then6 months later you finish the course you can still use it.

With others it's essentially an academic 'discount' at the time of purchase.   If  p3d is the same then you can use it indefinitely,  the only eligibility criteria is at purchase time.

And the testers even pay for being those ones ...

I'm sure I've seen such a model in action somewhere before...ahem...

I just don't understand the discussion. The pricing is clear as day and night .

Always has been. People just sometimes need to look for something to moan about and this comes from a rehabilitated moaner who just happened to grow up lol

Speaking of growing up...is there a discount for seniors?    I keed...I keed...

Do I really have to purchase the $200-license? It's quite alot of money - or doesn't it matter which license I get? (I'm not enrolled as a student, nor in any way work or studying within aviation)

Purchase the academic version then. Its what 90% of people will do anyway
