December 1, 201312 yr (...) Seems almost like a nudge nudge wink wink thing going on. (...) I heard a certain Robert S. Randazzo stating the same. Hope, it clarifies with PMDG starting development for P3D. What happened to AVSIM
December 1, 201312 yr Commercial Member People who are not experiencing OOMs are running relatively lower settings. I don't have many OOMs either, but that is because I am not running AI traffic. The fact some people already have them says enough. The bottom line is, in 32-bit flight sims, you can't have all the eye candy turned on without being punished by bad performance or OOMs. I I have 100% UT2 traffic and most sliders set to the max or nearly max & many complex addon sceneries installed with FSX. Yet I don't get OOM's. It's all about finding proper balance. Anyway Prepar3d will definitely be my simulator in the future, I don't feel like buying all the addons that I've bought for FSX again to get X plane look good. Regards Joona L
December 1, 201312 yr I started flying in 2003 and am still not tired of sims. When I fly a good bit, I tend to cut back on sim flying, but I still do it. First sim was FS5.1. I wish we had met 2005-2012 when I was flying into IAD a lot! December 4, 201312 yr X-Plane has been around for a bit, why hasn't it caught on. Or maybe it has? Why aren't developers using it instead of FSX? Why didn't PMDG use it? Surely you can have both realism and eye candy with it? Maybe these other flight sims aren't marketed very well. My concern is that it will continue that way, until 5 years down the line when we are still using FSX 32bit. There is a reluctance to change for some reason. So my prediction is FSX will 'hang' around for a while yet. sorry Hy jacked the thread again. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
December 4, 201312 yr X-Plane has been around for a bit, why hasn't it caught on. Or maybe it has? Why aren't developers using it instead of FSX? You do realise FS series was pushed by Microsoft, while X-Plane has been a small team effort (even a one man show) from the start? My concern is that it will continue that way, until 5 years down the line when we are still using FSX 32bit. There is a reluctance to change for some reason. That is my concern as well. --Peter Fabian
December 4, 201312 yr X-Plane has been a small team effort (even a one man show) from the start? Well there's the problem. Marketing, funding, etc etc. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s

December 5, 201312 yr I just hope that in 5 years I am still alive and able to enjoy a flight simulator experience... B)
December 5, 201312 yr I have new thing...I like new thing...die, old thing, die! I like this and have been trying to frame a similar mantra. The word "Shiny" belongs in there too. Here's a scenario: LM terminate the entertainment market licenses, once the software has been thoroughly tested through user forums and the like. Now children of despotic leaders can safely operate the software without tantrum (10 free copies with every $100million of LM hardware purchased) and be prepar3d for the next stage of their lives, which is to buy the real-life hardware (supplied by LM of course) they have seen in the sim!** The simming crowd who want "New, Shiny" have moved on to GTA XXV. Austin Meyer sold X-plane to Abacus, and it is now forgotten. The core of True Believers have figured out how to do hi-res ground scenery in FS9. As a result, developers are flocking to the platform, and high-poly aircraft are rolling out too.(Yes, that barrier has been broken, everyone except Carenado is pretending it never happened) The last few FSX holdouts realise FS9 now looks better than their sim, and without all the issues. The MSFS community becomes re-united as never before, and freeware becomes a force again. Flightsimming has never been better! ** What a business case... I should pitch this to the fellers in Bethesda
December 5, 201312 yr Reading through the first 3 pages I get the sense this will turn into a FSX vs. P3D vs. XP. Why not enjoy and use all of them? I'm thinking of dabbling my toe into XP next. I think we should be happy that we actually have the choices that we have. Flight simming has never been better, and unlike some of the pessimists, I think the future is bright. :good: BTW, I have to  at some of the EULA policing from earlier. December 5, 201312 yr Moderator The core of True Believers have figured out how to do hi-res ground scenery in FS9. At which time Microsoft will decide to remaster FS9 and increase the price to $199.99 for a boxed set, and $399.99 for the same disks in a Collector's Edition in the original "tin box..." :He He: BTW, I have to  at some of the EULA policing from earlier. Since the thread has now been moved to Hanger Chat, it is now within the purview of AVSIM moderators.
