The MD-11 is my favourite PMDG simulation, and certainly the most interesting plane so far...

The MD-11 is curently my only PMDG model. I bought it because its looks so different from what Boeing and Airbus are producing now, and is full to its winglets with charisma. I too would love to see an update, but if thats not commercially viable ( and fair enough if it isn't ) then at least the nod from RSR that it can be used in P3D would make us legally happy. ;)

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

Interesting. On this page, they show it as $80.

Perhaps if PMDG is watching this thread they can make the adjustment... they may be losing sales if people see that $80 figure and get quickly discouraged..

That was very much my situation, $80 for an older product (howver good it is) is too much. For some unknown reason I recently clicked on the buy button and saw the $60 price. That made for a very quick and easy decision and I've now joined the ranks of happy MD-11 pilots.

If I had seen the $60 price earlier I would have bought it much sooner.

To make more sales, of course!

It is PMDG's prerogative, but with a significant and well-advertised price reduction I think they very well could drive more sales they otherwise wouldn't make. Keep in mind they're asking $80 for a 5 1/2 year old product. That's just $10 less than the state-of-the-art 777. The quality bar has been raised quite significantly in the past five years, prominently by PMDG themselves!

Please don't take my comments as some sort of whine about the price - I'm perfectly comfortable with not flying the MD-11 and keeping her out of my collection.

You can use the word "legacy" if you wish but the fact of the matter is, the MD-11 is still a fantastic product for FS, and still worth the price it is sold as.   The core systems simulation is as good as the T7 IMHO (albeit there are less supporting features, such as auto-cruise, etc).   The graphics aren't as polished as the T7 but the plus for that is that the performance is better.   (and the textures aren't anywhere near as dated or bad as some people make out).

Even when it was just $10 less than the T7 ..... to me, it was worth more because I fly and enjoy it more than the T7.

Anyone who is a fan of modern jets, complexly simulated, and/or of PMDG is just missing out if they don't buy the MD-11 for the reason that it's "legacy", or that it's "EOL".     Don't you see, these are just labels? ............. It is what it is ...... an amazing simulation and product.    Up there with the very best.

I am truly not a rich man.   but if I somehow lost my MD-11 purchase and the price went up to $130, I would buy it in a heart beat.

The FS market today is a bit different to what it was a few years ago. New simmers are on the scene and old ones are looking for something different than the typical "Boeing" offering.  I am sure there is a reason why the MD-11 didn't do so well when it was initally released and I hardly believe it was simply that people didn't like the MD-11.

While I can understand that a few people here and there saying they want the MD-11 isn't enough to warrant additional work on the product, I do believe that the interest goes far beyond this website/forum. Why not do some official market research that captures the interest level for in a "new" MD-11 today?

BTW, My impression of a "new MD-11" really boiled down to an upgraded Model and Virtual Cockpit. I didn't get the impression that simmers were asking for additional systems. The systems can remain the same.

The MD11 is PMDG's second best all-time release. Intimidating at first, but with rich, deep systems, flightdeck experience completely different from either Boeing or Airbus, top-notch frame rates and very little VAS consumption (you see, PMDG, it is possible!).

Now, mods, you can close this thread!   :P

I guess the PMDG MD11 was, intended or not, a gift for a small group of "tubesimaviationfanatics" who wanted to have something different or broaden their knowledge beyond the usual Boeing based products. I would never call her, as it is now correct, the Boeing MD11. For me it will be always the McDonnell Douglas MD11, a true Diva with it's legendary "MD11 bounce". And certainly I would love to see a minimum upgrade solution that brings UHDT VC textures to the bird. But although it might not cost more than a week to do it, I think we won't even see a small update unfortunately.

Completely agree with you member111333. The only thing that it needs is updated cockpit textures, everything else is great!

I love the MD-11

In my opinion the flight computer is very similar to the ones found on Airbuses

In fact, when I stepped into the pmdg MD-11 for the first time I had expected major problems learning how to program the MCDU, but I immediately realized how similar it is to an Airbus, I was able to get it going in seconds.

The autoflight system took some getting used to however...

Really unfortunate that it didn't sell well, but there are not as many people who want to fly cargo aircraft as PAX aircraft. People want to be able to recreate the flights they often fly as passengers.

I still fly the MD-11 on vatsim frequently though.

I wonder if porting the MD11 to P3D V2.2 would be agains't the EULA, as it is with the 737 and the 777. Since it was done before the PMDG partnership with Boeing, maybe the EULA is different on this one?

Imagine having this bird running on the wonderful P3D V2.2, it would be just so great!

It was said many times that they will not rebuild the MD-11 because the sales rate was not enough (i believe the opposite many simmers fly this beauty and they have fallen in love with MD.
I think the most important factor was the big difference from boeing's aicraft logic.Perhaps they did not succeed to make it to seem more easy even though the AoA training.I do NOT blame pmdg this is just a guess. Piracy was a problem too.Another reason that they will not rebuild it, is the withdrawment

of some team members that they had coded the MD.

Anyway, if nowadays they remake this a/c ,it will be a success,i believe, but it's not so easy because they have actually other projects to finish and think about ^_^

And if you get FS2CREW for it you will have even more fun! ☺
