FTX: Global VECTOR Released

Featured Replies

I really don't think they'll handle the latter. It looks like Orbx had no involvement in this product's release. PILOT'S originally started making FS Global Vector to be sold as a boxed product, but later in development contacted Orbx about distributing it as a download. There's no indication that Orbx provided any support during the product's development.

But they run a dedicated support forum for it in the Orbx forums !

I'm running FTX Global with UTX for Europe. I was looking for FTX Vector, but I'm disappoinetd. I disabled UTX and tried Vector around LKPR and LKBE in Czech Republic where I live:

- UTX has six different types of roads (I use only four), with Vector I have only two. UTX is winner.

- Only huge rivers in Vector - I was missing streams around my city. UTX is winner.

- There are three big ponds around my city. Vector showed me only 1. UTX 3. UTX is winner.

- Vector don't have object repositioning - towns and villages cannot be recognized. With UTX I can recognize them easily even from FL330 and more. UTX is winner.

- UTX is for regions only, Vector is global. Vector is winner.

Is here someone with same results?

That is quite dissapointing, I agree.

But you got one thing wrong - vector data (Global Vector) doesn't cover cities, towns and villages, only coastlines, rivers, lakes, forsts and roads. UTX covers both Landclass and Vector data.

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

Instead of only posting snippets from it, here is the entire blurb about OSM etc.

"FTX Global VECTOR is created using many data sources, including from Open Street Map (OSM). By its nature, OSM is a public-domain data repository that relies heavily on user-contributed data. Most of this is very accurate, but at times corrupted or grossly erroneous data is uploaded and contributed without correction or vetting.
VECTOR covers the entire world, a land area 57,308,738 Sq. Miles (or 148,429,000 Sq. Km). Even a large beta testing team would struggle to visit every single location on earth to look for data inconsistencies.
For this reason, in some areas of the world you may see some of these OSM data errors in the form of square lakes and rivers, missing bridges, odd looking coastlines and other anomalies. We have endeavored to rectify most of these errors in the final product but some will have escaped testers’ attention.

FTX GLOBAL VECTOR WILL BE CONTINUALLY UPDATED AND IMPROVED

Rest assured though, your purchase of FTX Global VECTOR is an investment in a continually improving product that will have numerous patches and service packs released for it, all at no charge. Orbx may also add new features to VECTOR like proper swamplands and mangroves, other urban textures and features and much-improved roads, rivers and coastline accuracy.
As better OSM and other data sources become available, these will be integrated into VECTOR and rolled out as patches and service packs.
If you want to contribute to the improvement of VECTOR in the same spirit as OSM, which has grown and matured over decades, then please log a support issue on the Orbx FTX support forums and describe the error or bug that you have found. This will ensure that the issue you have found will be rectified in a patch or service pack."

Anyway, I was hoping you could disable the roads because I might buy this one for the waters alone (mainly because there simply are too many roads which makes cities look ugly and I am afraid it eats up all my VAS!) but apperently this can't be done. And I also find it pretty amazing there is no uninstaller and you can't even deactivate it in the Scenery Library... is that really true...???

And can anyone here tell me more about the elevation fixes: does it fix FSX/P3D default too or only FSGlobal...? It has to be one or the other. And I suppose you also can't undo those fixes...?

Could you check if the features that are missing are in OSM (i.e. www.openstreetmap.org). I'm curious to what's included or not

I just found this:

Quote from the PILOT´s product page:

"INFORMATION ABOUT THE COMING RELEASE
Version 1.0 is available now through The FlightSimStore for download. If you do not yet own a worldwide custom mesh (which is mandatory in some areas of the world), get FS Global 2010 FTX edition now to create the ideal base for FS Global Vector!"

Why wheren´t we made aware about that in the Orbx announcement ??

The FTX Global Vector manual tells:

Quote:

"Orbx has also partnered with PILOT’s who have released a download version of their worldwide FSGlobal2010 Mesh product, called the “FTX Edition”. This is the mesh product Orbx beta testers used when testing Vector and although it is not required or mandatory..."

How can they assure compability with default mesh, when the beta testers obviously used the 24GB huge 60,- euro expensive mesh from PILOT´s ??

System: i7-10700K, 32GB RAM, RTX4070 12GB, 1 x 1TB SSD, 2 x 2TB SSD, 1x 2TB HDD, Win10 64bit Home, Meta Quest 3

I can confirm that missing ponds, streets, roads and rivers are in OSM.

wothanfja16: I have this mesh and with FTX Vector some roads simply ends in the terrain. With UTX works nice.

A more complete quote from the manual:

"Orbx has also partnered with PILOT’s who have released a download version of their worldwide FSGlobal2010 Mesh product, called the “FTX Edition”. This is the mesh product Orbx beta testers used when testing Vector and although it is not required or mandatory, it’s a quick solution to provide a worldwide mesh which you can purchase and download from the flightsimstore.com – this is a ~24GB download though so be aware that’s a lot of data!

Vector also works perfectly fine with FSGenesis and a myriad of other freeware meshes available. The most important thing to remember is that Vector corrects all airport elevations to their real-world elevations. This means if the mesh you are using is not accurate, you may see plateaus or trenches at airports. The best way to solve this issue is to invest in a global mesh product that provides the most accuracy."

So this means that all those fixes may totally screw up my sim which uses default mesh...?!? And I have to buy another addon for 60 bucks to 'solve' this? Are they SERIOUS?

60? try 90

Actually, it's 82 US dollars and 60 euro's. To fix errors I might get with Vector. And to get low res mesh for the country I fly the most (Norway). I don't think so. And since you apparently can't disable the roads this means Vector isn't for me. Pity. I was expecting a lot of it. I can handle the fact that it's far from perfect and a project in progress but no uninstaller, no options to choose from, too many roads in cities (looking bad too with those green sides or whatever you call them), and possible elevation problems where I have none right now, I'll have to pass. I will focus on FTX regions from now on. I might buy Alaska while it's still on sale and hope for a P3D 2.0 compatible version soon... I didn't fly above 'default FTX Global' that much anyway: I prefer regions or FTXG with freeware addons (like you have for Norway).

What a bummer.

So that's quite misleading that an additional mesh is also needed to get the most out of this (or for it to look like the screenshots on Orbx's site). Anyone got any screenies of what it looks like without the mesh?

Jeroen... I had no idea... Although, if you think about things, that's really quite a good thing. OK, you have to get the mesh, but one of the reasons I have never invested in a good mesh is because of the elevation issues at many airports. It sounds like Orbx have reworked things in such a way that we can enjoy the hi res mesh without any of the elevation issues. I hope this is the case, although I understand your point regarding using Vector with default mesh. Well, we'll see... I'm just downloading vector as I type...

I'm bummed!  In a fit of anticipation w/o doing the homework first--I bought the thing last evening and there is no way I will install this as I really only bought this under the very mistaken assumption I could enable/disable components such as roads, etc.  I'm really primarily interested in water/coast lines.  Coming from UTX I assumed this would be the case and of course this was my bad for not checking this out first.   I have just made a donation to ORBX which I really did not want to do.  Dang!!@$!@$

LOL Some of the errors that are posted on the Orbx forum are so obvious that even a blind bat would have seen those flying at 10000 feet... My goodness. Again, I understand the work in progress idea but this is really, really bad... The OBVIOUSLY pushed this out way too soon because of the holidays. I am afraid this will bite them back.

I´m happy that the download time took so long that I got the chance to read into various forums regarding other users experiences first before getting the chance to install it.

Sometimes long download times are benificial, especially if there is no way back (uninstaller).
