I imagine, like Ultimate Terrain, they provide a one click solution to disable the product in FSX?

If only that was true. There is no application to manage the installation, and the entries in the Scenery Library cannot be unchecked as FSX won't work properly without them.

Seems you are stuck with FTXV once you install it. I am very interested in their reply to this matter, as this is not the first time they did this. This could very well be the last ORBX purchase from my side, just because of this.

I was afraid of this. After FTXG, the capability to easily manage vector and LC products was THE number one purchase decision factor for me.

So what is the verdict?    UTX or ORBX?      I really don't care about the entire planet.   I just need the United States.  Sounds like UTX is suited for me over Vector?

do you have FTG as well? will UTX work with FTG?

I have all of their regions and Im not interested in flying in some remote corner of the earth because its FTG enhanced. Im keeping GEX and will buy UTX for Europe and USA

Download the manual for FTX Global Vector in here: http://fullterrain.com/usermanuals/FTX_Global_VECTOR_User_Guide.zip

OK, this document makes it obvious that they don't respect the OpenStreetMap license:

"By its nature, OSM is a public-domain data repository that relies heavily on user-contributed data."

??? ???

OpenStreetMap is not public-domain data, OpenStreetMap is using the ODbL license. Did they publish a closed proprietary commercial product with OSM data ?

This company should read this:

http://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/summary/

This is very a intersting and informative thread, certainly learnt a lot about Data and how its sourced

I am really disappointed with the fact they 'forgot' to include an uninstaller AGAIN..

YAWN!!!!!!

This one is the most interesting.

quote from the OSM-ODbL page.

"Keep open: If you redistribute the database, or an adapted version of it, then you may use technological measures that restrict the work (such as DRM) as long as you also redistribute a version without such measures."

I really hope they do their updated edits directly in OSM so everyone benefits, and not only in their own software.

btw

Landclass can be freely taken from OSM

Vectordata can be freely taken from OSM

Mesh can be freely taken from OSM (and other free sources)

Special Buildings (like Eiffel tower) could have been taken from Google earth.

Normal autogen buildings are made progressively using the MS autogen generator. (in other words free as well, only maybe some effort in using the existing software optimally)

Only the textures should be difficult to find a free resource for.

(which means essentially ORBX-FTX makes textures and some convertors and nothing else)

I wish UTX would do a sale, they never do sales and probably now is a good time to get the word out there and show case their product

I can't imagine a company like Orbx wouldn't have found a way/loophole around this restriction so they can sell it, and I'm sure I'm intrepeting it wrongly, but If I'm reading the OSM license correctly, they essentially have to give me a free copy of the generated OSM data upon request without the DRM. The data from other sources they don't need to provide,  I'd happily pose this question to Orbx, but no doubt the post wouldn't last more than 10 seconds before being deleted.

Not very professional of them isnt it?

Maybe PILOT'S should be the ones contacted, because they were the ones who made FS Global Vector. Orbx is just distributing it under their own name and as a download.

If it´s sold under their name, they also have to give support and hopefully also assure that the quality is as one could expect.

I really don't think they'll handle the latter. It looks like Orbx had no involvement in this product's release. PILOT'S originally started making FS Global Vector to be sold as a boxed product, but later in development contacted Orbx about distributing it as a download. There's no indication that Orbx provided any support during the product's development.
