January 3, 201412 yr Make no difference P3D 2.0 or FSX. I don't think so... Was for sure the case for P3D up to V1.4. LM re-programmed P3Dv2 for optimized and extended GPU usage. So asserting P3D 2.0 and FSX make no difference in GPU usage is based on quite a huge misunderstanding IMO. Greetings, Claus Claus KUEPPER
January 3, 201412 yr BTW... it's not that things are bad without that GTX780 and only FTXG with the A2A C172... ^_^ The default west coast area of Canada and Alaska together with FTXG is great! (Makes you almost wonder why you should buy FTX regions...) In the picture above you see Pemberton, Canada.

January 3, 201412 yr it's not that things are bad without that GTX780 Looks really great! I am actually "out of the P3D business" until Nvidia 3D Vision2 is supported again. (One more proof that LM did change quite some fundamental stuff concerning GPU usage B) ) Regarding the GTX 780 hardware thread: I am looking forward to invest in a complete new setup incorporating Oculus Rift 3D Vision this year hopefully. LM officially stated that they intend to support this hardware which could be a real game changer... Greetings, Claus Claus KUEPPER
January 3, 201412 yr Just a shot in the dark, but does P3d still use the shader cache? If it does did you try to have the sim rebuild it? "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
January 3, 201412 yr I don't mean to jump in here, but one thing thats been on my mind lately is - how do you know which GPU is compatible with your MOBO?
January 3, 201412 yr incorporating Oculus Rift 3D Vision this year hopefully Oh yeah! That would be a dream come true!!! Just a shot in the dark, but does P3d still use the shader cache? If it does did you try to have the sim rebuild it? Yes, it does, and I removed the cache completely before testing. I don't mean to jump in here, but one thing thats been on my mind lately is - how do you know which GPU is compatible with your MOBO? Every mobo that has a PCI-E slot, will support current GPU's. And nowadays every motherboard has a slot like that so you could say every mobo is compatible with every GPU. However, things are different when you want to use SLI/Crossfire! For this the board has to be compatible. A simple check of the specs on the mobo's site should tell you if this is so or not.
January 3, 201412 yr I needed to get rid of some money before the end of the year (in order to pay less taxes in 2015) so one thing I did was buy a GTX780. Sorry to be a bore, but gonna have to chase you on this. What tax jurisdiction are you under that you can legitimately claim a graphics card for your hobby as a deductible expense? Otherwise it might seem like tax avoidance which puts the tax burden on other working families who don't have access to clever accountants to find loopholes for them. i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea

LOL I didn't expect some of you to jump on this. ^_^ But it has nothing to do with flightsimming (and I shouldn't mentioned it probably anyway) so forget I ever said that.

(Makes you almost wonder why you should buy FTX regions...) In the picture above you see Pemberton, Canada. FTX Regions are far more accurate than FTXG alone. I live in the area and can attest to that. But the biggest thing for me is the hundreds of retouched and more detailed default airports in the Regional scenery. Example... Go to Invermere BC CAA8 and do a fly by with just FTXG. Then check it with CRM Region enabled if you own it. Huge difference. Massive in fact. And that is the case with all small to medium airports. They simply SUCK without ORBX regions. C.
January 3, 201412 yr Uninstalled it and it will be going back to the shop today. So the purchase was in 2013 and the return in 2014. I heard PNW will be P3D 2.0 ready this month: hopefully Pacific Fjords will follow soon. Can't wait to fly in some FTX regions again!!!

January 3, 201412 yr My plan is to wait for the next generation of GPU's (nVidia 8xx) and then I will probably get a complete new system instead of just a new GPU. My PC is 3 years old now: in the past I often bought a new PC every 2 years so by the time those new GPU's will arrive, it's about time to get a new PC. I think a new CPU, a slightly faster PCI bus and faster RAM will certainly make a difference too. And I want that GPU to have more RAM onboard, at least 4 GB. Probably a good plan. Nick N did some interesting benchmarks on this which you can easily find by search for '780 discussion Haswell revealed'. The 780 is indeed a worthwhile upgrade, even for FSX, providing it is coupled with a Haswell CPU clocked at 4GHZ + and on a PCI 3.0 MB. With anything other the latest boards and CPU the difference is negligible, but if you do have a Haswell on a good board that supports PCI 3.0, anything less will be your bottleneck. January 3, 201412 yr Moderator Yes, it does, and I removed the cache completely before testing. But, did you also remember to delete the Prepar3d.cfg file and allow P3D to create a new one? How much time did you actually spend evaluating the new card? Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
