December 31, 201312 yr I needed to get rid of some money before the end of the year (in order to pay less taxes in 2015) so one thing I did was buy a GTX780. I decided this was a good moment for it and you can wait forever if you want to get the next best GPU... The GTX780Ti was still too expensive for the little extra performance it gives... Thursday I hopefully will be able to install it into my PC. Looking forward to letting you all know how good (or bad) things are with the GTX780 compared to my current GTX580! Have a look at my new baby here: https://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/GTX780DC2OC3GD5/ From what I've read it's an easy to OC GPU so I might even get close to those Ti-speeds anyway. ^_^
December 31, 201312 yr the 780 card is more than great,in all other games than fsx, please have that in mind.

It made quite a difference in the 'smoothness' of the sim, so for me it was a worthwhile investment. You should definitely see an improvement from the 580

I'd be interested to know how you managed to include a GTX780 as a legitimate expense to record as a minus on your taxable income. i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
December 31, 201312 yr An excellent choice Jeroen. It was also my choice. And OC'ed it will be very close to the TI. Haven't pushed it yet. But the first few attempts made will push the GPU boost clock from 0941 to 1104 mhz. Interestingly, in FSX that OC doesn't do anyhthing worth nothing however on P3Dv2, I get an immediate boost roughly 10fps in a few basic scenerios. As I said, I am not pushing it now, I have other things to work on : CPU/RAM OC. I'll be interested to read about your experience with the card. December 31, 201312 yr Commercial Member Well I am glad for you. I think you will really start to see a really nice improvement in performance. I just got my cpu overclocked from a stock 3.4 to a 4.4, so I will looking at better performance as well. REX AccuSeason Developer REX Simulations

December 31, 201312 yr Commercial Member Yea, those sexy heatpipes! Decided to hold off on a new card until I see what the first update offers. I am actually getting really good performance after tuning with my EVGA GTX670 2GB. Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!) December 31, 201312 yr You won't be disappointed with the performance increase, Jeroen. David Zambrano, CFII, CPL, IGI I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.
December 31, 201312 yr I also plan to upgrade my GTX580 to a GTX780 to use in FSX and P3D2. Does anyone know if there will be problems with the installed addons on FSX due to this hardware change? Will they require re-installation? I am thinking of PMDG aircraft and different scenery products? Thanks Edmundo Azevedo
December 31, 201312 yr Commercial Member ^ If all you're changing is the GPU it shouldn't require reactivation for our products at least. I've been thinking about buying a 780 too but I think I'm probably going to wait for the new Maxwell GPUs (8xx series presumably) in March - seems kinda silly to me to spend that much on a card that's going to be obsolete in just 3 months or less. Games like BF4 are already exceeding 2GB of VRAM usage on their maxed out settings and 3GB can't be far around the corner - I want a card with at least 4. I don't know about Jeroen, but in my case all hardware and software is recorded as a legitimate business expense for my home-based business... Frankly, it hardly matters because I never quite manage to earn nearly enough to have to pay taxes anyway, but I do like to keep the books balanced at the very least... :LMAO: Fr. My thoughts exactly, but I'm gonna wait for a stock 4,5+ GHz CPU as well before I. Get a new rig. P3D performs OK for me now. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
