February 19, 201412 yr I watched my VAS using FSUIPC but P3DV2.1 crashed OOM anyways with 400 MB left...why? Sadly so far P3D.2 struggles a lot with OOM's. Judging from the many entries and discussions at the P3D forums here and elsewhere regarding that matter there also is no real solution for it on the horizon yet. So although hopefully ironed out sometime in the future, at the moment at least OOM's really appear very often in P3D - no matter now if ORBX or other 3rd party add-ons are in use. Enjoy flying and happy landings.
February 19, 201412 yr Applications need certain amounts of contiguous VAS. OOMs with 400 MB VAS left could be due to the remaining VAS being too fragmented. Could happen in 'legacy' FSX as well. Now, FTX Northern California anyone? B) What happened to AVSIM
February 19, 201412 yr Just had a quick flight from a few airports last night, just to take a look around the scenery. It's a beautiful rendition of California, at least from someone who has never been there! But I have seen lots of cowboy films  Seriously, this truly is a wonderful piece of work and well worth the money. Today I'm building a flight plan that will take me from north to south in my C47, dropping off at some of the many interesting airports on the way. February 19, 201412 yr Does this piece of scenery cut into performance much? I have a very antiquated system ( I7 870- 2.9 ghz. AMD 6800 series 1GB card). As it is right now, say with the PMDG 737NGX at FSDT airports, running 50% AI traffic and some weather I'm down to to mid-teens in FPS (with all the recommended tweaks). Do those who have this scenery see much of an impact on performance? It looks really nice. Thanks so much. Brian Green
February 20, 201412 yr I'm using the A2A C172 in P3d 2.1 with many of the settings cranked up, REX 4 textures, MyTraffic 5.4c, FSG2010 mesh and OPUSFSX weather. I can barely pull 15 fps around KSFO and 25 fps in the countryside. That's a drop from 22 and 35 respectively without NCA. And no stuttering/OOMs BTW. I could turn down a bunch of the settings and get better frame rates, but it looks so good, I can't bring myself to do that. This is one of the nicest scenery packages that ORBX has put out and it's the first NA package that is truly P3d2 compatible.
February 20, 201412 yr Noticeable but tolerable (for me) stuttering and low frame rates around KSFO (King Air Duke 2.0), but I'm running a sub-par machine and rarely fly in and out of big metro areas anyway, so I can live with it. Also flew the Duke around Redding and did a short hop from Brookings to Crecent City in the Lancair. Lovely scenes to behold everywhere. I've never had an OOM error in any Orbx scenery area, but like I said I tend to stay out of heavily populated areas and fly tubeliners only occasionally. Richard P. Kelly
February 20, 201412 yr Flew last night from Reid-Hillview (San Jose area) to Eureka/Arcata, switching from the Duke to the 337 to enable sight-seeing a bit more. No question that the flight up the bay stressed my modest system about as much as any area I regularly fly. Got some moderate stutters at times until I got to the north end of San Pablo bay. Smooth performance from there on north. There's a lot of "stuff" down there around the bay to process and it shows. Those with more modest systems may need to dial back the sliders a bit around the Bay Area itself. Scott
February 20, 201412 yr my modest system Hard to believe a GTX 670 is being called 'modest' these days. How was Arcata/Eureka? I googled the area last time we talked and really loved how both eery and beautiful it was (depending on the wx). I wonder if any of either come out. Arcata would be a nice airport/area for the "Orbx treatment"...as would Charles Schultz, Half Moon Bay....... Gregg Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. February 20, 201412 yr Anyone here who went from Mega scenery California to this Orbx Nor CA? What is your opinion? I was happy with the Megascenery Northern CA. I even had autogen trees and buildings. I think. The only issue I had with Megascenery CA was the SFO are and particularly city area...it just sucked.. But other than that I was ok with it,,, No OOM issues if I don't add the Aerosofts SFO to it. So I would really like to hear your opinion on this. Maybe I'll just get the Orbx airports for N.Cal when they start releasing those and not purchase this N.Cal. BTW I love the PNW and the many small airports in the PNW area. Thx Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
February 20, 201412 yr Hard to believe a GTX 670 is being called 'modest' these days. How was Arcata/Eureka? The 670 was an upgrade last year when my wife's video card started to die. She got my old ATI card and I got the 670 FTW. But that really makes for an unbalanced system right now with my aging i7 920 with mild OC. I'm very (VERY) CPU bound, thus the "modest" comment. Hope to finally start an upgrade later this year. The 670 will be moved to the new system then. Arcata/Eureka was fine, but I think it would still take a full Orbx airport to really capture the feel of the area. I've spent some time in Eureka (on a motorcycle trip) and it really is an interesting place and area. If there, I highly recommend the Carter House for a real Eureka Victorian experience. http://carterhouse.com/category/carter-house-lodging/ I did get a couple of screen grabs coming in. Will try to post them later. BTW, if I remember correctly, Half Moon Bay is coming. The original road map had it for January, but obviously NorCal had to come first. Scott
February 22, 201412 yr Commercial Member Been talking to Mir from FlightBeam and he's making a V3 of KSFO to perfectly match our NCA color pallette and autogen. I flew into KSFO a few days ago and took a bunch of photos for him too Cheers, John Venema

February 23, 201412 yr My sim is taken apart so I can't do screenshots but I did find a couple of youtube videos that show FTX Norcal... Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090
