April 15, 201412 yr Author Well don't make the same mistake I made. I bought an Asus GTX680 4GB with the intention of going SLI down the road. Asus then decided to discontinue the 680 4GB early on so finding one is near impossible now. Maybe second hand, or may just wait for 8XX series. You don't need two identical GPUs for SLI. A GTX 680 with 4GB from another vendor will work just fine.
April 15, 201412 yr If SLi support becomes a reality in P3DV2.x then, I'll step up to 3840 X 2160 monitor (but this also means I'll have to use an external 4K video capture card and PC for recording my flights). Rob, do you have a 2nd Titan yet? April 15, 201412 yr Rob, do you have a 2nd Titan yet? Yes. From what I have read, it is not that linear, and a 50-60% FPS improvement would appear to be more a realistic expectation than a 100% increase. Agree, double is possible but rarely achieved and that's assuming the 3D app was built ground up with Multi-GPU support in mind. Everyone is going nuts about SLI. Now that LM have improved VAS usage it's made SLi a viable option. Cheers, Rob.

You can throw any GTX680 4GB with it and they can be found quite easily even new. In fact, most likely another GTX680 with 2GB would probably work, but in that case it would mean making the 2GB from the 4GB card useless.
April 15, 201412 yr Everyone is going nuts about SLI. So, is it expected that SLI usage will double current framerates or is the relationship not that linear? We are all just eager to resume bashing our faces into the brick wall that is CPU limitation. It's where I feel most at home  Regards,Brian Doney
April 15, 201412 yr I'd be interested in seeing if an SLI setup using present generation cars (i.e. GTX 780) would trump a top card of the next generation or two generations. My thought is my current PSU is not enough to take on another card on top of my currentl GTX 780 (I have a 700 watt power suppy). It seems it would be more cost effective for me to wait a couple of generations and just get a single top of the line model. Phil Long

Next gen will be amazing in terms of power consumption. You could probably do quad 880s on a 700 watt power supply.

April 15, 201412 yr Evga store has a gtx 680class. 4gb listed for around $500 + IMO you would have to be crazy to buy a GTX 680 for $500+ You could get a GTX 780 for that!
April 15, 201412 yr SLI will give you 40-60% increase in most games. But with push to put processes on the GPU I think we'll see the high end of that. SLI may also remove any stutters, although most of mine are gone, now that I got around to a clean Windows 8.1 install. I'm really happy with 2.2. SLI will work with two NVidia cards of any series. The faster card will clock down to match the performance of the slower card. This is what I've read anyways. I used to have an old GTX 260 in my case for physx, but I took it out when I cleaned dust out and didn't bother to put it back in. I'd try triple SLI with 2 GTX 260's and my 780, but I'm sure that would be a step backwards, and not worth opening the case again. But if anyone else has an old card and a slot or 2 hanging around they might want to try. April 15, 201412 yr I thought the 780 OC was supposed to be a little faster (and less costly)? Let me qualify, with my P3DV2 graphics settings, it seems the GPU is the weakest link, not a "bad" link. But point being, with my settings and hardware, I need more GPU (actually I should say, I need support for more than one GPU, I have another Titan sitting idle). Rob I see you have a 30" and 24" monitor listed in your sig. How do you have the views setup on each? Are your frame rates and videos posted here done with the two monitors running? gb. YSSY. April 15, 201412 yr How do you have the views setup on each? Updated my profile, I have two 24" and one 30". I only use the 30" for P3DV2.2 ... the other displays are also connected to two other computers (as well as my FS computer) and I switch input source to see what's going on with the other computers. The other 2 PCs are used mostly for flight planning and flight tracking but will soon be used to record digital out from my main FS PC 30" so I don't have to use Fraps on my main FS PC. Videos are currently recorded using my main FS PC at 2560 x 1600 @ 30 fps (using Fraps) which induces about a 3-5 fps hit, if I record 1/2 size I only get about a 2 fps hit. YouTube mangles the output to 1440p. Cheers Rob.
April 16, 201412 yr Yes. They are pricey right now so I think I will wait until they start selling again as people want to upgrade to Titan Black or beyond. Fortunately performance is still quite decent for the time being. Hopefully about the time more 3PD's come out w/ V2.2 installers for their addons we will see GTX Titans for sale, used ones that is. SLI will work with two NVidia cards of any series. The faster card will clock down to match the performance of the slower card. This is what I've read anyways. That's diametrically opposed with what I've been reading. These articles or statements said as long as the specific model, e.g. 780 is the exact same model even if different manufacturers. For this reason they say 780ti would not SLI w/ 780, but e.g. a super clocked version of 780's would SLI with a standard 780. They cite different cuds cores, bandwidth, memory amount and type, as features that must be the same. There was a time back when I think they said GTX 280 or before where there was some ability to SLI w/ non totally equivalent cards.
