April 16, 201412 yr These articles or statements said as long as the specific model, e.g. 780 is the exact same model even if different manufacturers. Actually, I know this works because I've done it. But I don't remember clearly. I think I had to do something driver wise, like use the NVidia driver, not the manufacturer flavor, and then not install for the faster card. ... I'll look it up if I get time. Back when I was still interested in FSX before giving up in frustration, I ran 2 260's to see what would happen, and then tinkered with adding in an 8800. NVidia says you can't do it, but you can. ... Now I'm remembering something about forcing the older cards firmware on the newer card. That was the trick. If everything is there from the older card it works. That and make sure the clocks are set right. April 16, 201412 yr It's not uncommon to almost see 90% gains in the gaming world. BF3 certainly ran at almost double the speed with SLI. But SLI can be a pain - especially if you like to play a lot of different games. It doesn't always work which leaves one card sitting there doing nothing. Not to mention, twice the heat, twice the noise, and twice the power.
April 16, 201412 yr SLI will work with two NVidia cards of any series. No they won't. Cards need to be same architecture, that is identical. Clock frequencies and board layout can be different, in most cases also the VRAM, but you can't SLI something like GTX260 and GTX780. GTX780 and GTX780Ti won't work together either. If I remember correctly, only bigger exception back in the day was SLIing GTX260 with 192sp and newer one with 216sp and they would work, but only 192 shader cores were utilized with the 216sp card.
April 16, 201412 yr Ah well, it must have been my imagineering then. Anyways, I'll be putting the pipe away now to buy more cards more frequently. That ought to help everything along. I don't need no pipe now with a working sim. And the hot tub. I think what we really need is for Rob to get off his duff and put that other Titan in his machine and start reporting. April 16, 201412 yr I have GTX670 SLI system with Nvidia Surround and as it is, V2.2 performs horribly (FTX Global + Vector + REX4 Installed) and the main reason is most likely my SLI+Surround setup. The problem is that FPS doesn't stay constant and it is jumping from 30-40FPS to teens for a short while. Running with autogen and scenery detail off the FPS can fluctuate between 40 and 80FPS. Drops aren't that noticable with higher FPS, but when running with high detail like stated previously P3D stutters like hell. This fluctuation is most likely caused by the unsuccesful sync of the GPUs. It is evident when I look at the GPU loads, there is almost constantly some variance between the two cards. This sync problem probably causes frame skipping and that is again the cause of FPS fluctuation. Now, I tested yesterday P3D as AFR-friendlyD3D.exe and the situatuion improved noticably. There is really significant improvment in FPS wise also, but the main thing is that all the stuttering is pretty much gone, FPS stays much more stable and I think it now works pretty much how it should along the lines of single GPU, at least. Funniest thing is that now with AFR-friendlyD3D.exe cloud shadows give huge and much bigger relative perf impact pretty much halfing the FPS. This is the first SLI unsupported software that I clearly have a problem using SLIed cards and surround. It may very well be that there are no negative effects when using only single display (in that case second GPU just passively idles). With surround though, two of the displays are connected to one of the cards and remaining monitor to the other and thus pretty much both of the cards are always taking some part in the rendering process no matter if the software has SLI support or not.
April 16, 201412 yr Well I can tell you guys at least in my neck of the woods picking up a used GTX 780 on the local buy and sell web-site is a joke. I don't know where the people seeing them are getting their ideas of what they worth but some of them are asking for more than you buy a new one for. . I have sent a bunch of emails to different sellers of used GTX 780 offering them $450 (which is IMO what they are worth and not a penny more) and I am getting replies like "Are you Crazy the Price is firm at $550". And I am the one who is crazy  . I offered on seller $900 for two used ASUS GTX 780's SC they had and he accepted and then he wouldn't let me test them before completing the deal. Some of the adds have been there for over a month and not sold. When I have sold Computer parts in the past I usually take me a few days. 25% of the regular retail price is a far and reasonable place to start. These people are nuts  caveat emptor, caveat emptor!
April 16, 201412 yr The prices on GPUs are stupid right now. I bought a 770 on black Friday 5 months ago here in the states. Today, the same card sells for more used.

April 16, 201412 yr Rob, any reason you're not using NVidia's ShadowPlay to record? Yeah, can't get it to work at 2560 x 1600. I think what we really need is for Rob to get off his duff and put that other Titan in his machine and start reporting I will, but I need a new build for that I'm going to guess some new nVidia drivers (although not always required, but my hunch is LM will need to work with nVidia on SLi support). Of course if LM decided to do something on the double precision side (seems unlikely), it would make my Titan's much more useful. But for now, single monitor use at 2560 x 1600 or less then two 780 Ti's would probably be the best price/performance option when/if SLi support is added to P3DV2.2. I'm not sure what you folks mean buy price? The Titan Black is $1000 ... it's basically an Titan SuperClock ... the Titan Black is available, no shortage so I don't understand why someone would try to sell the Titan (original) for $1500? Cheers, Rob.
April 16, 201412 yr Author http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=6531 That means when you turn on cloud shadows, you lose the quality of other shadows. Can anyone confirm that this is happening?

Rob, this is interesting I made that post on LM forum that ChaoticBeauty referenced. If you pan up towards the horizon, are the shadows still sharp? Do the shadows stay sharp and not flicker when your sim is in motion? On my system I see that if I activate autogen shadows and cloud shadows and use outside view and pan almost straight down, the shadows look ok. But as soon as I pan up towards the horizon the shadows loose sharpness and start to flicker. The more horizontal the view, the more flickering and the autogen shadows loose its contours. It's like they change LOD. It works acceptable when I set cloudshadows to 10.000 meters but it does not look as good as it did in 2.1. (2.1 was actually the most beautiful sim I've ever seen. To bad it didn't work so well... ) /Magnus (Sorry for bad english)
