Prepar3D 2.2 Released!

Can you give me a rough idea what the perf hit for full Vector (in the configurator) over default FTX Global?  I know FTX regions are a lot harder than FTX Global alone.  I wasn't fond of the lack of a configurator for just this sort of control so may jump in if the perf hit isn't substantial.  It appears from what 2.2 offers it may be the wrong time to ask this question as the perf hit might be substantially more in 2.2 or so it would seem.

I only use small GA aircraft and Vector seems to impact my FPS as much as 30% in some urban coastal areas, but in less-urban areas I have the Terrain and autogen sliders to the far right, so I just back them off a bit when my FPS are suffering (I have two different saved custom graphics settings that I use).

I'm using Orbx FTX Base, Vectors, and FS 2010 mesh, plus Active Sky Next and A2A's C172.

No perceived benefit w/ HT enabled I guess is what you're saying?  I am using 62 for my SB-E..

I probably should have pointed you to the "My PC" part of my profile. I have a dual Xeon workstation which used to be used for video editing. It has 12 physical cores and I run it with HT off. But to answer your question, I've never seen any difference with running it with HT on, although 24 parallel threads is overkill for pretty much any individual app.

LM must have done something to spiff up the parallel processing in version 2.2, because the load is balanced nicely across all 12 cores. In the past, as others have pointed out, one CPU core would almost always be pegged at 100% usage.

I'm totally speculating here, but I believe that LM is fine-tuning P3d for Xeon workstations, either single Xeons with high core counts or dual CPUs. The only drawback is that unlike my rig, the new Xeons can't be overclocked, since they have a locked multiplier.

This approach should get version 2.x through at least 2014 and possibly beyond, especially for their pro user base.

Porting Prepar3D 2.x to DirectX 12 shouldn't be complicated.

I think this is the Forza 5 video you are talking about ... don't know about you, but I hear "complicated" changes based on the what the developer was saying on how DX12 will operate.  Obviously not impossible, but certainly not easy.

Anyway, it's on the horizon, and there is active development, so Flight simulation does have a very nice future.

Cheers, Rob.

denali, don't worry because in Vector 1.2, the data source for the North America will be switched to USGS
Wow, that's sweet.  See, I went to school to be an Architect, with an emphasis in urban planning.  When I was a kid I used to love looking at maps.  That's why current scenery inaccuracies don't cut it for me, and I have to go with photoreal.  I really like the results I get from FSEarthTiles over any other photoreal vendor, and if I get time I might get some screenies.  But Orbx does it for me when in close or at an airport, and if they do what it looks like they're going to do I'll be buying up all that.   What I really hope for is what Orbx does over photoreal.

Wow I'm extremely impressed how well 2.2 runs with almost everything max'd out! However I forgot to back up my p3d nvidia settings before updating and it wiped it out. Is it necessary to tinker with that anymore or can everything be configured inside p3d itself?

There is always increased VAS consumption though.

Vector consumes about 200MB or so on my setup.

Agree, performance seem unaffected on my system with ALL Vector settings checked.  I did have to disable AEC for KSEA ... there might be more airports I need to do this with, but haven't run into others yet.

My video RAM went as high as 3671MB using P3DV22 in ORBX_PNW on approach to Vancouver (about 3-400 is for system VRAM)

not too much stuttering in windows 8 HRD and shadows active, really COOL views

QUESTION: Is the professional version different only in license to the academic?

Has the nVidia 337.50 beta driver been a good thing at all for 2.2?  I found the thread, but no comments about performance that I saw.

If it runs well I'd leave it alone. A lot of us have gone back to default NI settings.

I set transparency supersampling to 4x sparse grid super sampling, as I get shimmering cockpit instruments (in some planes) and trees otherwise. But it does require a lot of GPU power, so if you're happy without it, then don't use NI: you'll get much better performance in clouds. I haven't found any other NI settings to be necessary or useful in 2.2.

I didn't notice a difference (good or bad) with the latest beta driver.

Don't do that yet, Orbx are saying that Vector 1.15 (update between 1.1 and 1.2) will fix many airport elevations.

QUESTION: Is the professional version different only in license to the academic?

No, the Academic licence also has a watermark on the top right that you cannot remove.

For reassurance purposes, the watermark and license criteria are the only differences between P3D Academic, P3D Professional, and P3D Developer. The programs themselves are otherwise identical.

No worries, it's easy to go back and forth with the Vector configuration tool ... beside how else could I fly out of KSEA without using AEC?

I have seen any word on a Vector 1.15 update ... read about 1.2 ... you got a link to info on the 1.15 update?

P3D Professional, and P3D Developer. The programs themselves are otherwise identical.

The Professional Plus is not identical (that's what I'm using) - we get a different install and update set and there are some differences in code - also get 2 licenses.

Cheers, Rob.

The Professional Plus is not identical...

Which is why I left it off my list. :P

Cheers!
