Why Worse Blurries Than Fsx?

For me the blurries went away when I changed AM to 15.  I'm pretty sure it wasn't a placebo.

It's not a placebo, of course. I said it doesn't matter how one set the AM - in cfg or Task Manager. If somebody see a difference in this, that's a placebo.

Agreed - other than the time it takes to use the TM - there is NO difference in setting it there or in the cfg file. If there appears to be - look closely at your cfg file - the entry might not be correct.

Yeah, I can't see how the way affinity is set would make any difference, unless a mistake/typo creeps in adding the info to the cfg, and then it won't work at all obviously.

My personal experience has been that P3Dv2.0 onwards needs some intervention with core allocation, otherwise terrain loading will be worse than FSX... with 2.0 and 2.1 AM=14 worked better and with 2.2 AM=15 is an absolute must, making the terrain load twenty times faster.

Why it works for some and not others with the same, or similar configurations is a mystery.

I have to say I'm getting a little tired of all the testing and tweaking I've been doing over the past three days to try and get P3Dv2 to actually work as well as FSX. I have accepted that I can't use cloud shadows, as the impact makes the sim unflyable. I have everything set at medium, with very conservative settings throughout and have followed all the guidelines from guys on the forum. The biggest headache I have is that no matter what settings I try, the texture/ground blurries are worse than I get in FSX. I am starting to wonder whether there could be some other intrinsic issue elsewhere in my setup. Could it be my 4.6 overclock may have an effect? or the memory settings in Windows? Maybe the RAM? Although I fail to see that any of these may have an impact, I'd be interested in some opinions from those who may have some advice. Thanks fellas... BTW I find it really difficult to understand why, with a CPU @ 4.6Ghz and a GTX 770 4gb I am getting, what appears to be far worse performance than others with less 'beefy' setups.

Something isn't right as I can run pretty decent settings with cloud shadows and I get 40-50 FPS in the air and 30 or so at most ORBX airports I've gotten to work in V2. I run a FX8350 at 4.5ghz which according to bench marks is slower than your 2500k. Also I get blurries but using task manager to set affinity fixes that. Are you sure you dont have an old prepar3d profile in you Nvispector those can kill performace.

Howard,

Did you do a screenshot (or video) of the blurries ?

Is it at all airports including payware?

Best Regards,

Vaughan Martell  PP-ASEL KDTW

I Howard.

I did this by calling up the task manager (any time P3D is loaded, doesn't matter)

Then in processes, look for the prepa3d.ex, right click on it, then select 'set affinity'

The rest, I'm sure you will know what to do ;)

How do you use all cores in the task manager? Win 7 64bit.

Thank you

This previous post shows you how.

A few suggestions if you haven't already done so:

1.  In nVidia Control Panel make sure Texture Filtering Quality = High Quality

2.  The 780 is PCIe 3.0 spec, so make sure you're seeing that with your motherboard (GPU-Z or NI will identify this) - if not you will need to make registry entries to enable (reboot afterwards)

3.  Disable virus/Malware software when running P3D

4.  Make sure you don't have any flight sim related drives with either of these options checked (right click drive and select properties) "Compress this drive to save disk space" = NOT checked ...  and "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" = NOT checked

5.  If you are using SATA6 SSDs or HDs make sure they are plugged into SATA6 ports not SATA3 ports

6. Test your memory bandwidth and latency and report back (I use SiSoftware but there are freeware products that will do this also)

Cheers, Rob.

Here is what you want to see for PCI 3.0 ... the "@ x 16 3.0" is the key part.

The registry key you are looking for is here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{C4ACD837-7AD8-402D-B4D5-939515B23F80}\0000

The GUID will be different on your system, but you can identify the correct GUID by looking at DriverDesc entry ... now add or make sure you have the following key: RMPcieLinkSpeed - DWORD - value = 4 Hex.

Not saying this is your issue, but it's a good thing to have enabled IF your motherboard supports PCIe 3.0 spec.

Cheers, Rob.

I am running HT on so AF=85 for me and it removed all blurries I was getting while running a virgin p3d.cfg. I have also decreased autogen density to "normal" in heavy urban areas and getting acceptable performance more or less. even with LOD set to High.  FFTF=0.1 does nothing for me, except speed up simobject texture loading, and increasing that number seems to to induce stutters. I also increased TBM=60, may be placebo, but it does seem to smooth things out a bit.

I have cloud shadows, and terrain shadows disabled. Running almost everything else on high or ultra and getting excellent performance everywhere except heavy urban areas.

Thanks to everyone for all your help and support. I am at this moment trying out many of the suggestions.

Hi Rob, thanks also for your input. As for the PCI 3, I am seeing in Nvid Insp  PCI-E 3.0X16 @ X16 1.1 Also, I don't have the registry key you suggested. BTW, i have a GTX770 4gb ... not the 780

@ X16 1.1 means you are only running with PCIe 1.1. But it could also mean it is in idle mode. When idling my card also shows PCI-E 3.0X16 @ X16 1.1, under load it is PCI-E 3.0X16 @ X16 2.0 (that is because my board only supports 2.0).

David, when using cloud shadows u should also 'tick' the receive

box for sim objects, buildings and trees. In my experience it

doesn't cost much or none (frames) and looks much, much better.
