January 19, 201511 yr Well I sure hope Dovetail Games helps to pull this community into the 21st Century finally.
January 19, 201511 yr LOL, Actually, we are flying with the basic engines that MS has given us, & with LM has updated & modded. What is REALLY important it the detailed, complex & fun add-ons that developers, both freeware & payware, have given us to expand on the basic engine. There is, & will be no holy grail out there. Yup, it will be interesting to see what Dovetail's own sim will be & to compare with what LM has done, with basically the same engine.. Mmmmm, I wonder who will release the first 64bit sim? January 19, 201511 yr Commercial Member Well I sure hope Dovetail Games helps to pull this community into the 21st Century finally. By doing what? Creating a closed, free to play FS platform similar to Flight and then selling overpriced DLC through Steam? Because that's where 21st century gaming business is going.
January 19, 201511 yr X-Plane X is already 64 bit. I know, but these posts are about Dovetail's FSX & I threw in P3D. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
January 19, 201511 yr I've been an addict since 1987 when I discovered Chuck Yeager's Advanced FlightTrainer - 4 colour graphics, internal PC-speaker sound and keyboard controls. When I sit back behind my Saitek cockpit, 50" screen and run Prepar3D v2.4 with ORBX FTX Norway, FS Global Real Weather, Airports of Norway freeware, custom made freeware traffic and Henrik Nielsen's ship traffic installed, it is hard to take in how far we have come. When ACES was closed down by MS I thought we were all doomed, but the Phoneix has risen from the ashes, the future is here now, and I intend to enjoy it as much as I can. I too would like to see something new one day, and I will back a kickstarter campaign for a new sim - if it is my kind of sim, and herein lies the problem. There is no flight simulator community that can agree on anything else than the fact that they enjoy flight simming as a hobby. Whatever new sim comes along, most people will be ######in' about how terrible it is and the lack of this and that. Nothing wrong with it, but it's just the way it is. I want a pretty sim (GTA V graphics would suit me just fine ) with simple aircraft, career modes and missions, while others want a high degree of realism and complexity in the aircraft deartment - which I see no need for. January 19, 201511 yr Who needs a new sim when new hardware is the best way of making FSX new again......I just got an i7 4790K and I am having the most fun I have had for years. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
January 19, 201511 yr while others want a high degree of realism and complexity in the aircraft department - which I see no need for. A ha! You see no need for a high degree of realism and complexity. Well then, there are plenty of childrens' toys out there for you to buy. Having said that, I have now seen two-year olds play complex games on computers, phones and tablets, which shows me how much technology has moved on from when I used an abacus at school in the early 1950s, and a slide rule for calculus for a science Masters. I prefer aircraft with complex systems and panels, for as far as FS9/FSX will allow it. A full movement B747 simulator spoilt me some years back so it is each to their own and budget. It does not matter if you have a 4 or 7 figure budget, it is the satisfaction you get with what you can afford. January 19, 201511 yr Yes, it is the latest, but it's nowhere the newest. It is a slightly tweaked re-release of a 8 year old game. Maybe, if you wanted the latest, newest & much modded/updated, you should have looked elsewhere. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...

In every thread that mentions FSX-SE you pop up and basically put the product down. Lets be honest here, both FSX-SE and P3Dv2.4 are just slightly modded/updated versions of the same 8 year old codebase. Get over it, P3D is not a massive leap forward from FSX at this point, and yes I do run both Sims and have done since I signed up for the Developer version in 2010. FSX and FSX-SE under DX10 is by far the smoother running more compatable platform.
January 19, 201511 yr Lets be honest here, both FSX-SE and P3Dv2.4 are just slightly modded/updated versions of the same 8 year old codebase. Since we're being honset, lets not suggest that the upgrades done to FSX:SE thus far are equal in scope to that what has been done to Prepar3D. While FSX might be the smoother one, I prefer the P3D micro stutters over the FSX autogen popping. I use FSX, FSX:SE, P3D 1.4 and P3D 2.4 all on the same computer. I really have noe significant issues with any of them, although I prefer the DX11 graphics in P3D 2.4 for VFR flight - which is what I do most of the time. January 19, 201511 yr I actually do not have a problem at all with either FSX or FSX-SE. I run FS9 (2v versions), I ran FSX for many years until P3Dv1.4 cane out, & it was obvious that even that version, for me, ran faster & smoother, as compared to FSX. You say.. Get over it, P3D is not a massive leap forward from FSX at this point.. BUT... it IS a leap forward!, Maybe not massive!! We all know that FSX-SE is about 8 years old with a few tweaks. Yes, it does run smoother than FSX did. The main reason, as we know, is that FSX-SE is now running on 8 year old newer hardware. It is also very interesting that Dovetail has released 2x DLC's now. These are also quite a few years old, & yes, I ran both in FSX. It is great that Dovetail is releasing simple aircraft at this stage to their market. Yes, there are those running FSX as well as FSX-SE. I'm not too sure why. I had an interesting conversation with a friend of mine in Saturday. This guy has gone thru the ranks of the franchise, from FS2000!. He is now on P3Dv2,4, as well as running FSX. We discussed that Dovetail has released FSX to a whole new market , which is great!! We may even end up with a few new developers. He tried to justify buying FSX-Steam. & could not! (his comments were "been there, done that, 7 years ago) It is interesting waiting to see what is happening out there, with Dovetail developing their own sim, based on MS's technology. We agreed on the points that we could not see any benefit nor excitement with the release of FSX-SE at this stage & would rather wait & see what arrives down the pipeline. Also interesting to see whats going to happen with the developers out there. Those still doing FSX, those changing their installers, when needed, for FSX-SE, & those waiting to see what Dovetail does, as well as those developing for P3D!. So, my personal opinion, been there, done that, wait & see if anything better comes out. (lol, I love being Devil's Advocate) Something to remember as well, it's still only a game!
