Whats your add on budget?

Featured Replies

I love tearing up money on this hobby! For most of mt life I have mainly spent money on Beer and women and although this bought me much enjoyment there was still something missing!

And then I found FSX. After quickly spending a small fortune to get the platform to an acceptable level of immersion I now allow myself $50 a week  toward an add on. Im already browsing the catalog for next weeks addition  :Waiting:

Whats your allowance?

If you're spending $50 every single week then you're a simming junkie. I have put together a yoke and panels set up by going on a 'fell good' spending spree every time my girlfriend dumped me.. Now I have almost a complete build and have time to use it.

This is something that I'm not willing to even think about...

Spending money on beer is a wise choice! Although my personal poison is the occasional bottle of vodka, which helps me replenish my batteries and resets my grumpy mood to a good one, a beer is really nice with your friends in the sun having a chat about the world. And if my girlfriend dumped me, I would just drink a sapoy and return to life a few days over, completely recharged with no grief left.

I have no idea how the budgets might be in other places of the world, but here most entry level simmers do not spend more than maybe 20 dollars in your currency on a joystick, which is sad as there's more to offer, economy cannot however support it. Both in Belarus and Russia everybody I know pirate all the addons as the price differences are too steep and with the philosphy/mentality of how certain things are done when it comes to "business".

I personally do not spend anything a week, have my joystick, laptop and freeware Tu-154, along with the quality airports from avsim.su. Sometimes the free experience might be the best one!

Others spend that on a couple of beers every weekend (or if you're a heavy smoker it's not even hard to spend that amount on cigarettes here in Austria), so I'd say investing that money in the flight sim is rather reasonable (seems quite a lot to me too, though).

Having limited time for simming available due to some quite extensive university projects I got to do, I currently allow myself to buy no more than one or two addons per semester, preferrably at the end of term, so I have something to look forward to after taking the exams, a reward for studying if you will (or a consolidation if I didn't pass ). For that purposes I always try to have abround 50-100 Euros parked at my PayPal account.

Well I just shocked myself the other day by tallying up my simmarket purchases. Between December 2011 (my flightsim comeback) and now I came up with something like 2160 EUR and that's not counting all my ORBX stuff from flightsimstore which is easily another 400+ AUD. Also everything PMDG has for FSX excl. the 747 Expansion packs so that's another good 250-300 USD.

Usually I try to limit myself to around 50-60 AUD per week but doesn't always happen that way.

And to top it all off I sim from a laptop...

When I started this, I was thinking about the sim itself, couple of aircrafts and some basic controls, but over the past couple of years it grew to a complete hardware set from Saitek (yoke, rudder, trinwheel, 4 pannels and a VRI T&T and CH throttle quadrant...), REX, FTX Global/Vector, FSG2010, ASN, couple of dozen airports, like 30-40 aircrafts, a bunch of utilities and I build a panel containing all my hardware, to minimize the space it takes up... Together with the new pc I build recently, I dont even dare to add up everything I spend on my sim. :P

I think I'm a pretty lucky guy, having a girlfriend who understands a man needs a hobby. ;)

For now I've just got a couple things on my list I still want, but I promissed myself to start spening less on my sim and more on my girlfriend.

Cheers!

... and the rest you wasted.  :D

I just added it up over the course of a few years.  Looks like I've spent about $25 per month average.

I dont really have a budget for addons as if there si something i want i will buy it if i have the spare money in the bank, so some weeks i might not buy anything and other weeks i might spend a lot.

I do shop around the online shops to get the most for my money as some exchange rates favor me and others no so well.

I myself have spent allot of money on this hobbie. But compared to some of my other hobbies this is not that bad.

Like rc airplanes I was spending about 10 thousand a year on that hobbie lol.

Then there was golf that was about 100 a week or more for green fees and that did not include the beer lol.

So 50 a week is not that bad if you have the money.

Best regards Ted Kiser

I typically buy one addon a week. I tend to buy a more expensive one ($40+) on payday, and maybe an airport scenery every other week.

Good lord all of you buy so much! I buy maybe once a month and usually it's a small purchase then - like an airport maybe. My biggest purchase was FTX Global and I just bought that for Christmas for myself!

Regards, Jeremy Chesney

An addon every week...? Do you actually use them too? I buy addons when I want or need them and I choose them wisely, Not because I am tight on money but I simply don't feel like wasting it. This year I bought one plane (A2A Cherokee 180) because I didn't need another while I was using the A2A C172 (and I've been flying the Cherokee since the day I bought it). The only scenery I bought was FTX NCA and I added CRM to it to make my collection of FTX US complete (when the installers for P3D arrived: I had already bought the other US regions when they were released). I think that's about it... I hope to buy FTX Norway this year. Other than that... I don't know. Maybe when something nice comes along. But I certainly won't buy something just because I have to get my weekly fix. :P
