I sometimes wonder if DCS is messing with the Outerra engine with an eye to worldwide coverage.

Just a blue sky feeling.

I think that you misunderstood my point.  I don't want them to develop a new sim; my point was, why can't we use the existing DCS world for civilian stuff as well?

General or commercial aviation over the country of Georgia would not be that interesting. The flight model in DCS is outstanding, but the map is small, and the ground textures are average. Future map plans cover part of Nevada, and a historical map for WWII battles. No complete world map exists, and at the rate these guys work, it never will.

I'm not knocking them... I own DCS: P-51 and have the Dora pre-ordered. Can't wait.

I agree that they should stick to combat, and focus on what they do best.

We don't have fantastic add ons for FSX like the NGX thanks to Microsoft, it's thanks to PMDG.

And who provided PMDG with a software development kit?

So are they just going to distribute the same product on Steam or will they have access to the source code, which means they can add improvements?

They don't have permission to modify FSX in any way, so they will be distributing FSX on Steam without any improvements. However, they've bought the technologies behind FSX so they can make a completely new flight sim, which will be released next year.

I cant say it will sell well since a stock copy of FSX is pretty ugly by today's standards and has the same performance as a lead balloon.

Dovetail have ALWAYS been super secretive about their projects. Every time a new version of TS comes around you know jack squat about till about two weeks out if you're lucky..  They are all about letting forums and "communities" boil over with rampant speculation and conjecture.  More keywords in search engines with their name all over it. :)

Apparently that works very well

Just looks like TS2015, or DLC for it to me. We all will get free updates.

Well I just took a look at the review for X-Plane10 on Steam. I am personally not a big X-Plane10 user but I do own and have installed the Global edition and I would say that it is State of the art. You would have to say it is in the top 3 Aviation simulation available, then qualify that that statement by saying there are only 3 real Aviation simulation available.

It doesn't look promising! Out of 26 user reviews so far 14 are positive i.e. Thumbs up and 12 are negative i.e. thumbs down. In my book that represents a very badly received release and I suspect that the negatives are growing at a faster rate than the positives and will quickly represent the majority and then the vast majority.

Frankly, X-Plane10 does not deserve this but it is only to be expected when you throw this kind of software designed for professional use into a PC gaming arena like Steam.

Based on this reception so far for X-Plane10 my view is that the FSX will just engender anger and damands for a refund on Steam. It will be a complete flop. Me and you, seasoned FSX user see the dept of the experience and have been drawn beyond the superficial warts. Our friends are people we accept and love despite their flaws and in many respects because of their flaws. In this regard FSX is like an old friend to us.

FSX will be received on steam much the same way as me a nearly 50 year old man would be received in a happing nightclub checking out pretty young women. It going to be embarrassing and shameful! LOL

Another Acela Express? They never fixed the original one that the sound cuts out in left or right channels depending how you pan the camera.

Classic DTG..

Release broken product

Ignore complaints of broken product for years

Re-Release same product upgraded and attach it to a new route forcing people to repurchase something they already own if they want a fixed version

Unless they have a new free route they're including in TS 2015 that includes the Acela express.. Usually each new version contains a new free route and rollingstock.
