Where is P3DV2.3 better than FSX Dx 10

While I do prefer it when people quote only the relevant part of a post, the forum does provide two quote buttons  "Quote" and "Selective Quote."  If we're only supposed to use one of them, why are both of them there?  Instead of nagging people about "don't use that button"... get rid of the button.

Yeah... dumb down the interface so we don't have to use our brains

Dude. A forum moderator said "Quote only a few sentences so it is clear to whom your reply is addressed, or to highlight some specific point." This isn't a one-time thing, either. Clear and repeated direction to not press the "Quote" button and always use "Selective Quote" is being given on multiple occasions. If "Quote" is forbidden to use, the button shouldn't be there. Conversely, if the button is being provided for use and is going to remain, don't get irritated when people use it.

what were you thinking???

Logic and the virtue of preemptively eliminating issues over mitigating them or dealing with them after the fact.

Rich, please stop quoting the entire post in your reply. Quote only enough sentences to identify the person to whom your reply is directed.

Bill, agree with you, but just in case you didn't know, in IE11 Selective Quote doesn't work ... in Chrome it does.  M hunch is that many folks are using IE11 and when they try the Selective Quote option they see nothing in the Reply box ... so they reach for the "Quote" button which does seem to work in IE11.  There is IE11 compatibility mode, but that doesn't resolve the issue entirely and leaves out other functionality this web site provides.

If they get Email notifications and click on the link in their Email to get them here, that will bring up the default Browser such (so if Chrome is not the default that means IE11).

Personally I think IE11 is a pile of dog pooh, but I have to keep "defaulted" on my system because I do development work that needs it as the default.

I'm not defending anyone, just letting you know why it might be happening ... I don't know if Tom has an updated version of this forum software that works correctly with IE11?  And I don't blame him if he has no interest in making AVSIM work well with IE11 ... I personally can't stand IE11.

Cheers, Rob.

RoboRay -

The quote button is used when you have a short message you want to quote. Why highlight a single line and then hit selective when the original is only one line?

Selective is for breaking out relevant parts of longer posts.

So both are necessary.

I've heard that's for subs and such, but I've never seen the difference or what it actually does.

As I understand it the Bath data is just for US East Coast, West Coast and Hawaii ... so go to Hawaii ... turn the wind up a little ... now fly away for the island and out into the deep ocean, turn around an fly back (low) you should notice that the waves will change height when you get closer to the shore.

You may also notice that you occasionally get a "massive" wave or a white gap (gap not cap) ... this is actually bad Bath data or incomplete Bath data.

What we need is more accurate Bath data for he entire globe (this will probably fall into the hands of 3rd party ... more specifically those that produce Mesh products).

Another area Bath data can help is with rivers, lakes, and smaller bodies of water so that we don't seem large waves in small bodies of water.  But as far as I know, no one has produced Bath data for P3D yet ... hint hint hint, PILOTs?  Orbx?  UT?  GEX?

Cheers, Rob.

Rob, that's precisely why I "uninstalled IE11" so I could roll back to using IE10...

On the other hand, using the Quote button, then selecting the parts of the quoted material you don't want and then pressing the "Delete" key works quite well also!

Just wanted to post that... That's how I do it on all forums I visit. It's quite easy, you know... B)

...not what you're stating. The point is to not quote large posts for a response to a small part of the post. Simply quote what is relevant.

No... logic dictates that one should use their brain before quoting a post. Do you really need the whole post or simply a portion of it? That dictates the button choice.

And dude... you really haven't a clue regarding sarcasm. Might wanna go brush up on that a bit... ;)

Yep, code to Firefox, then "fix it" for Explorer.  I use Chrome for everything else.

Something like P3D comes along to give hope of some better future in flight simulation and is greeted with nothing but negative attitudes, endless ignorance about the product, and continual comparisons with FSX? Seriously, what is wrong with some of you people? I just don't get it?

I think a good portion of animousity about P3D comes from the "Elephant in the Room" that appears for some well intentioned flight sim hobbiest when they read the words "and only for purposes other than personal/consumer entertainment" while attempting to purchase P3D.  Maybe throwing darts helps eliviate their feeling of being left behind.  I'd bet a paycheck that if those words did not exist on that pre-purchase screen there'd be nothing but LOVE LOVE LOVE for P3D (well, from most at least), regardless of its growing pains.

I know I probably dipped into verboten territory by stating this, and the last thing I want is to open up matters that rightly deserve no futher discussion.  I'm just providing a viable answer to your question by stating what seems to me to be a self evident situation for some.

I'll take that bet.

I would venture that most haven't read P3DV2 learning center let alone the EULA.  I think it's more like, they see cool videos/screenshots, they want in on the action, they buy (at no risk, 30 day refund), they crank up the graphics details and load up their favorite add-ons, it runs at 2 fps and some of their add-ons crash the app ... they immediately come to forums with guns a blazin'.  It's a pretty common theme, happened with FS9 to FSX, even happened to some degree with XP9 to XP10.  It's the human way ... only a very few are hung up on the EULA ... a vocal and very repetitive few, but just a few none the less.

What P3D needs is SLI and 64bit ... but to get there requires bringing the 32bit ESP forward along with 3rd party support.  I'd wager that any current growing pains would take a blind eye IF the product were SLI and 64bit.  But either way, no one is doing anything with FSX on the code front.

Cheers, Rob.

I agree with that. What are the odds that sli and x64, make their grand debut at the same time? I'm not expecting x64 anytime in the next 2yrs. And who knows what nvidia are thinking, as it isn't sli for P3D.

What a grand future lies ahead of us!  Think of the immersion when Oculus Rift (or whatever may come from the back of the pack) is ripe.

Liking the new multiquote feature.
