July 25, 20169 yr As your user "bubble" moves with user aircraft, potentially more AI aircraft are encountered. The Air Traffic Manager deletes any AI above target for the bubble. So are these deleted AI gone permanently? I'm just wondering about people flying in a real word timetable environment where I guess there might a lot of non-arrivals. gb. YSSY. July 25, 20169 yr Once deleted by the Air Traffic Manager, those AI schedules are gone from that flight sim session. However, they can be subsequently resurrected by pausing the sim and changing the AI commercial traffic settings by a percent or so (some here have suggested that just opening the AI dialog without affecting a numerical change also works to reset schedules) . Of course, the excess flights that are presently within the user bubble at the time are again immediately deleted. The Air Traffic Manager also has an option to preserve airport traffic at the departure and arrival airports, so that is probably your best option.
July 25, 20169 yr Ok, I'll retry it today. My respawns were not due to me changing the traffic setting, but perhaps something else happened. i will pay closer attention today.
July 25, 20169 yr As your user "bubble" moves with user aircraft, potentially more AI aircraft are encountered. The Air Traffic Manager deletes any AI above target for the bubble. Obviously, the lower one sets the target number, the more CPU time will be spent maintaining the target. The logic behind the app (confirmed by the trivial amount of CPU time it uses) is that the activity of the app is vastly lower than the CPU load required to maintain 100s of AI aircraft in the user bubble. It doesn't seem to me that it would consume more CPU by leaving only 10 aircraft instead of 90, would it?! Best regards, Wanthuyr Filho Instagram: AeroTacto
July 26, 20169 yr No of course it doesn't. P3d and FSX are terribly inefficient at maintaining large numbers of active AI aircraft schedules. AI crushes the main CPU thread and between that and autogen buildings in urban areas, those two features are what kills performance around big international airports. What's surprising is that LM has not added an AI numerical limit to the P3D UI, in addition to the AI percentages.
July 26, 20169 yr The Air Traffic Manager also has an option to preserve airport traffic at the departure and arrival airports, so that is probably your best option. Okay, thanks. gb. YSSY. July 26, 20169 yr Running P3D v3.3.5 and Windows 10 64 I get the following error message when trying to run what I assume is the latest iteration... any suggestions? July 26, 20169 yr I've had a chance to fly again with the optimizer. A couple of observations: 1. Setting the AI to 0 doesn't seem to work (nothing happens). 1 is the minimum. 2. With AI set to 1, the AI constantly respawns. The program does eliminate the AI, but within 1-3 minutes, there will be 3-10 new AI flights near me. This is with default AI (per my post above). My goal is to have no AI in the air and only the airport AI so I have checked the box for that. Contrary to the responses above, it does seem that P3D respawns the AI after they are eliminated, so this app doesn't seem of much use . . . unless I'm missing something.
July 27, 20169 yr Running P3D v3.3.5 and Windows 10 64 Check the last few pages of this thread. It appears that you do not have a valid version of SimConnect 10.0.61242.0 installed. You can find the installer for SimConnect FSX SP1 in the P3d redist subfolder. With AI set to 1, the AI constantly respawns. The program does eliminate the AI, but within 1-3 minutes, there will be 3-10 new AI flights near me That's because the user aircraft is moving and keeps encountering more active schedules. My guess that you may also have uncovered a limitation in the ATM in that it doesn't work as thought, when assigning very low numbers of non-airport AI aircraft schedules. You might be better with the FSUIPC4 Traffic Zapper option. Unless I don't understand what you want to do, you could also set the ATM to some number like 5 (with the takeoff and destination airport traffic unaffected), but while at cruise, go into the P3d UI and set both IFR and VFR traffic to 0%. When you get close to the destination airport then go into the UI again and turn the traffic setting back up to 20 or 30% (or whatever you normally use). There is also another 3rd party app, SuperTrafficBoard that allows independent control of AI traffic percentages without using the P3d UI. Does this app allow traffic to be viewed along the NAT/PACOTS tracks? The app has a "radar" function which shows all AI traffic and the user's active flight plan. It does not show either the North Atlantic or Pacific Tracks as an overlay. Also, as posted earlier in this thread, the OSM map overlay function is now broken since on July 11th, 2016 MapQuest changed it's access requirements to its OpenStreetMap online database.
July 27, 20169 yr Commercial Member My goal is to have no AI in the air and only the airport AI so I have checked the box for that. That seems to be a strange desire, when it's surely at airports where too many AI most noticeably affect performance? In the air I've never noticed any performance problems no matter how many AI I have. Currently I have my AI limited to 200, and the program does that very well indeed. This number gives me realistic levels of AI at big busy airports like Heathrow and Schiphol, and tends to mostly be removing those distant ones which I wouldn't even be able to see yet. Note that, by using MyTrafficX at about 40% plus UT2 I would normally get nearly 700 AI when parked at Heathrow. Mind you, I'm currently sticking to FSX-SE which seems to cope much better than P3D with higher traffic levels. I'll be using P3D for VFR flying on a separate setup. July 27, 20169 yr Hi RockStar .... You are getting the SimConnect error because DukeSan27 has revamped the original program and his latest version now uses the LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect.dll from the P3D V2 SDK. The new version works fine on my system now. July 27, 20169 yr Thanks. I'll try those options and stop worrying about in-air AI and focus on the numbers at the big airports. The tool certainly has a great benefit there.
July 27, 20169 yr Mark, It took me a while to figure out why you were getting an "odd" result with very low AI aircraft settings in the Air Traffic Manager. The ATM when set at a low number like 1 or 2 keeps killing AI in the user bubble, but the user aircraft bubble engulfs new schedules faster than the ATM can delete AI. The behavior is perfectly normal. Jay
