October 27, 201411 yr Oh well, I'm glad DSR is working well for some ... more happy simmers is a good thing. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (sung to the Hootchie-Cootchie Man) "They call me...the DSR' in...it be workin' Man, no maata whatta sima I chooooooose to be runnin (blues riff inserted...)......." Hammer and Sledge, approach you type??!?!?! I'd say more like fine silk moving across the monitor acreage.... Never have I seen such clarity and detail, with the ability to keep 30 plus FPS. Sledge and Hammer? No other tweak modifications, all deleted.... Rob..I respectively disagree.
October 27, 201411 yr Rob, since you're already using a 4K monitor how high was the DSR resolution you picked? A 4x DSR on 4K monitor will make P3D drawing on 8K resolution. Just curious how heavy is the performance hit. Also I'm considering to upgrade to a 4K TV but just learned that on the market many 4K TVs don't take full 4:4:4 4K @ 60fps and many can only do 4K@60fps input at reduced color format of 4:2:0. I remember you mentioned that your 4K TV has similar problem with 4K input, but in actual use does it really matter? Vizio has pretty cheap 4K TVs but only do 4K at 4:2:0... 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
October 27, 201411 yr Rob, since you're already using a 4K monitor how high was the DSR resolution you picked? Yeah I was using 4X so it was actually a little beyond 8K res basically don't remember the exact resolution 8000+ x 4000+ ... I dialed that back to 2X but still wasn't seeing the quality or performance over my non-DSR setup. As far as my Sony 4K monitor ... it supports HDMI 2.0 (no DisplayPorts) which is technically capable of 4K 60 4:4:4 (it's part of the HDMI 2.0 specification). However, my Sony (X850B) lists 4K at 4:2:0 when at 60Hz ... since then it's installed two firmware updates (wireless connection and updates are automatic) but none were related to YCbCr444 60hz format. I'm not sure why DSR wanted to force YCbCr420 @ 60Hz ... probably the auto detect (and the fact the Titan is only HDMI v1.4) thinking that was the best option when in fact it isn't. However, it does operate well at RGB (full, not compressed) 4K 30Hz. Cheers, Rob.
October 27, 201411 yr Thanks, Rob. Just one more question, do you notice any degrades on picture quality if you use Sony TV at 4K with 4:2:0? For P3D running 4K@30Hz refresh rate on TV might be a plus, since I remember then you can V-sync to lock P3D to 30Hz and as far as I can recall that gives the smoothest fps performance. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
October 27, 201411 yr Totally agree Rob. In fact I went back to 337.88 and using NI with far better performance and AA quality in P3D. William
October 27, 201411 yr Can't see any options for DSR on the new drivers on my laptop with a GTX765m.. odd since the original way to get it was to use notebook drivers. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
October 27, 201411 yr Is there a way to set DSR specifically to the P3D/FSX profiles or does it have to set in the global profile?
October 27, 201411 yr Commercial Member Seems that DSR needs to be a Global setting as it must when you think about it. Regards jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
October 28, 201411 yr You're right, I didn't totally understand the nature of DSR, but now I do. It's too bad P3D only runs in windowed mode, meaning you have to force it for the whole desktop, which looks really ugly. In FSX with its exclusive fullscreen mode you can have it set to run at the DSR res only when asked. Still, the visual improvement at 2x DSR (on a 1080p display) was really good and not too hard on the framerate, either.
October 28, 201411 yr Commercial Member I found only FSX windowed mode requires the desktop resolution changed. P3Dv2, although fullscreen captionless windowed mode, does not require a change to the desktop resolution. Any troubles found with DSR - try recreating the NI Profiles and remember the ALT+ENTER switch twice - it's required for the driver to capture the sizes. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

Yes, that is he way to go for the windowed mode. So, I\ve tried the driver last night, and I'm mostly excited because I can change desktop resolution to 2xxx x 1xxx, especially on my second monitor which is used as preview in Adobe Premiere or After Effects. That monitor is 1280x1024, and it's really helpful if you can change the resolution via DSR to fit there a full hd video! Amazing! After that I've tried FSX with 2.00/25%, and saw no significant difference in sharpness ingame, but jagged lines are gone for good, which probably means I can switch off the anti-aliasing, will try that tonight. No loss of FPS on my GTX 560, so that's good. I expected to see a bit more sharpness on cockpit screens text, but I guess it's not possible on 1680x1050 monitor. So, ironically, you need at least 1080p monitor to expect sharper images via DSR, but I guess on default 1080p resolution image is already quite sharp and clear? I relate to cockpit displays and smaller text on it, especially on PFD and MFD, because on 1680x1050 is very hard to read smaller text on displays. BTW I said ironically because I expected DSR to help in sharpness in case of monitors with lower than 1080p native resolution. So, at least the image is smooth now, without jaggies, that's something. It's not sharp as before, but it's smooth, so I must decide what is more important to me. EDIT: I found that DSR introduced some type of motion blur, like on 5-8ms monitors. Anyone can relate? October 28, 201411 yr I just got a GTX 970 and selected DSR and 33% smoothing and I am seeing no change at all. I am using 1920x1080 monitor. I selected the higher resolution in P3D and the menu text shrinks accordingly so it is definitely activated, but really no difference whatsoever. Some people seem to be getting a whole new sim out of this. I am definitely not seeing 4K graphics as advertised. Would appreciate anyone's suggestions.Have turned P3D profile in NI inspector to default. Peter James

With DSR x2 you will not have sharp font in the cockpit. Only x4 makes a difference. As for FPS - have you tried with volumetric fog condition + heavie aircraft like PMDG + busy airport? Frank
October 28, 201411 yr Commercial Member Hmmm, I've tried it with x3 and saw no difference also, so I doubt x4 will be any different. I tried it in FSX so no volumetric fog. Was sitting on Aerosoft EDDM runway in PMDG 737NGX and with 50% MyTraffic, fps was the same. DSR was a bit much using the TH2GO and 3 screens on my 780GTX - I also re-installed the 337.88 driver because the AA quality looks and preforms a bit better then the new driver. Hope the next driver release has some P3D optimizations.
