For several years I’m using some personal software to control Fsx from a remote computer en to connect it to Google Earth. I’ve had some problems in the past with the SimConnect.dll that is used heavily by the software.

Since SimConnect.msi  v10.0.61259.0 which installs version 10.0.61637.0 of Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect.dll (never understood why the version numbers don’t correspond) I haven’t had any problems. Even better: my software connected flawlessly to P3D and to FSX:SE. I’m not sure if the same would happen using only the SimConnect.dll provided by P3D or FSX:SE, but for those who encounter problems with SimConnect it could be worth trying the installation of the version I mentioned.

The installer SimConnect.msi  v10.0.61259.0 can be found in de folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-XPACK (if you ran a default installation of FSX:XE).

I only have FSX-SE installed and did a thorough cleaning of the registry and all FSX Gold folders before installing the Steam version. I don't suggest that one maintain parallel installs of the two FSX versions, unless you absolutely need it. Stick with one or the other until all your add-ons are completely compatible with FSX-SE. The two options mentioned above (the FSX registry utility and renaming folders) both will work though, if you really need to install the DX10Fixer properly in a dual FSX setup.

To be honest with everyone, I'm not even sure why one would want dual FSX installs. I haven't seen any advantages to the Steam version with regard to stability or performance. I still get the same CTDs, OOMs and I don't get better results with higher IQ settings in FSX-SE. Some add-ons don't work in the Steam version at all (PMDG aircraft, ASN and TacPack, for example) so if you have those add-ons, my advice is to stay put for a while. You can always buy the FSX Steam version now and install it later.

Simple answer. FSX-SE aparently removed the ability to "Connect Direct" in MP and I ONLY fly FSX on the Digital Theme Park servers with the 91st Bombardment Group which is FSX only.

As for FSX-SE, I also belong to the A2A Community which now has a presence in the Steam FSX-SE community and would need the FSX-SE MP connectivity there, as well as a test bed for A2A installs.

Thus, I REQUIRE a 'side-by-side- install. At the moment I am holding off on installing FSX-SE until I can ndetermine if FSX-SE will do a 'side-by-side' install if I install it on a 2nd user account. As far as I can see, the only FSX folder\files that are outside the <user name> area is the FSX folder that contains the Scenery.cfgfiles. That, for unknown reasons, happens to live in the "All Users" area.

I will also need FSX-SE to 'behave' when I mount drives in empty folders in FSX-SE (Addon Scenery, : OrbX) as I have done with FSX.

It appears there are a few myopic folks out there that can't see other possibilities/capabilities beyond their own realm of experience. I am not one of those persons.

voxATC (the recent version from a few weeks ago) seems to work ok. i also was successful with installing ut2 and the ut2bridge and it populated traffic etc i heard someone mention ut2 not working but it seemed ok, maybe because i installed the old simconnect versions, but i didnt try it by itself as i use the ut2bridge and vox is generating the traffic. i only tried on a clean SE install.

The author of the DX10 Scenery Fixer posted the following today on the AVSIM DX10 Fixer Forum:

"Currently DX10SF installs and works normally if you just have the new Steam Edition installed. I am unaware of any issues but let me know if you find any.

There are several issues if you have both the SE and DVD version installed. There is no easy workaround - I will try and update the installer as soon as possible."

So, as for some of the other addons, it will take a little time if you are experimenting with a dual FSX-SE/FSX system.

IFLY 737  v 3.21  works  perfectly     no wxr  because  ASN ...

i7 4777k 4.6mhz, 32gddr3, GTX 760 4g sci ,Saitek x52,yoke and quadrant, 60 Led . SSD

It may be too much to ask for, but it would sure be great if someone could put together a spread-sheet consisting of the various add-ons, if they are compatible with FSX-SE, or are being worked on if they are not.

I am heading out of town for the holiday, but may try tackling this myself if no one else does before then (or hasn't already done so).

Merry (or Happy for those across the pond) Christmas to one and all!

It would be more efficient to simply list those that don't work as these are very few in number.

You're right!

And thank you for the link.

I think it would also be very helpful to note if they work in dual mode or just when

FSE-SE is only installed.
