Hi Mike-"The X-Box crowd (game consoles in general) is vastly different than the PC crowd."Honestly, you lost me at that statement. You're making a pretty broad generalization there. I'm sorry to say I think your take on consoles is pretty generally flawed; for example, regarding flexible and standardized - there's a Nintendo-manufactured peripheral to the Gamecube that lets you play any of the Game Boy titles on the Gamecube. They also make... bongos...The 360 will have a 20 gig hard drive. "Detachable and upgradeable 20GB hard drive" according to Microsoft.Even with the current version, software add-ons can easily be done by DVD or online.I'm certain that there would not be nearly as many add-ons as currently exist; maybe not any. But those are unknown quantities. What is known generally doesn't jive with many "facts" you're writing about.Personally, my Xbox has never "crashed" - to suggest MSFS is more stable than a console doesn't make any sense either- apples to oranges.BTW the Xbox is completely upgradable; the upgrade is called Xbox 360.. and you can even get a good deal on a trade-in. Or, you can just spend the $300.CheersAndrew

Meh, FS X goes only to XBox 360 just makes me think "FS 2004 is still looking pretty good" :)I'd never get a console to play a game like FS. I just won't cut it for me.

Flight Simulator to run on a console?., its configured to operate under windows for a start. Believe it when i see it...CheersDan:-)

Thanks jeff., holy baloney then all the add-ons will run on X-Box to!CheersDan:-)

>AWESOME!>>I for one, would applaude an X-Box Version. As long as it>supports USB (Yoke and Pedals) and is compatible with FS 2004>A/C and hopefully third party add-ons. If Microsoft can>gaurantee a minimum of 40 FPS, REGARDLESS of ATC /AI/ Weather>/ Cloud and Scenary Density, etc, etc and it supports my 52">Hi Definition TV for output, COUNT ME IN!>>Imagine, not having to deal with sliders and / or WAISTING>time tweaking the software and the OS. If you really think>about it, most of us spend the cost of X-BOX and more>upgrading hard drives, memory, motherboards/CPUs, video Cards,>etc etc...>>This is the BEST direction for FS 2006 to go as long as the>requirements I mentioned in the first paragraph are met. We>will all be better off.>>Hat's off to FS Development Team if they pull this off>sucessfully! >>Barry>>My sentiments as well ... Vern

I would buy XBOX 360 tomorrow if it were available as an internal, front-loadable device occupying one of my 3.5 x 5" external bays, and would allow me to use my USB yoke and hi res screen as if it were really just another PC title. SEAMLESS INTEGRATION between PC & console. It's a super no-brainer. A major factor for me is not being able to continue to benefit from very hi res display technology, not possible with XBOX 360. Sorry, HDTV aint 1600 x 1200 x 4xAA x 16xAF. Will never want a console until it can display in at least this quality, and even so, like sitting in front of my 21" PC screen. Don't want another sit-down entertainment area.Noel

If the application is coded to a mid-level API (Application Programming Interface) and the same API calls are made for any platform, then the high level source code would be cross platform. It is even possible for an optimizing language compiler to offer such cross platform support with minimal code changes therefore in a product team most of the staff would be shared across platforms. This is not new for many applications. There is no reason why a DirectX or whatever can not exist for both platforms with common calls for each.Having a cross platform development system means increased revenue for both the application division in terms of consumer sales and to the compiler providers as competive leading advantage in selling to developers.

You can hook up the regular XBox to a monitor right now, if you want. All you need are the right cables, which cost around 10 bucks. And the graphics are amazing! Even from the games that aren't coded for HD.

No doubt the addon issue would have to be solved for Xbox FS10 to have a real audience. Without FSUIPC and work-alikes, I don't think serious simmers would make the switch. Then, at least you could run stuff on a networked computer via wideFS.scot s..

The thing is, though, that a 360 version of FS X might not have to be created or ported in a way so significant that it wouldn't prove to be a real title.I don't know what's involved, but I think it's sensible that -some- version of FS could be created for the 360, and if that's the case, I can't see how it would be viewed as an either/or situation vs. the PC.Just as many games are made for PC which end up being highly modded, so too could some type of FS be available for Xbox and simply not be compatible with the entire range of addons/whatever available for PC. (or any..)Just as adventures can be available in FS currently, MS might decide to do an all-adventure based FS, flight lessons, cross-country challenges, or what have you, and keep the available flight areas realistic, but geographically limited.Land an F-18 on a carrier in all types of weather. Deliver medical supplies in Alaska. Land a helicopter on a skyscraper. Shuttle businesspeople from White Plains to Philadelphia.None of these seem so "gamey" that they wouldn't appeal to the (cough) "real" simmers, and none seem so "simmy" that they wouldn't appeal to (cough) "gamers".As I mentioned before, the 360 will have an upgradable 20 gig hard drive; I imagine that would suffice for quite a bit of real-world data plus the program.Keeping my fingers crossed.Andrew

How big it the market for gamers, those other people who may "steal" our fs10?Read recently that Sony has sold ... 92 MILLION PS2 consoles. Guess that puts our little group of "hard core" users in perspective. Selling into the console market, they will have several ti9mes more "earlier buyers" - "I got to have everyhing published" gamers, then all of us.What MONEY will be, MONEY will be. Just hope that we can also provide them enough margin so they don't waslk awaY from us. Regards,BobShttp://s95171098.onlinehome.us/junk/aopa.jpgSeems the rage to talk about the "size and speed" of each others computer. Beat this if you can for solving novel/unique problem anywhere in the cosmos. ..Have K&E and know how to use it!
