Not gonna paste a whole page of reasons why I settled here, but essentially its the site that most closely appealed to my hunger to see, talk about, and be part of all aspects of flight. The audience was larger, responses were faster (many sites are ghost towns in comparison, where posts can sit, and sit, and.....) topics were more diverse, I sensed no particular overall agenda other than enjoying the hobby,

Rude people seemed relatively under control (kind of) gangs of sycophants were unnecessary, as they were not selling anything in particular.

It was just cleaner, fresher air to fly in, with lots more interesting people to meet, essentially.

Also, the whole Microsoft Flight thing was an eye-opener all around for me, in the way many sites decided to handle themselves, and for me, this site passed the test of openness with flying colors. I won't forget that.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Two recent claims, both touching on 'everybody'. ^_^

Reasons to like, obviously, are the users, their content, help and patience. Ingredients matter, regardless of the platform.

A bit sorry for the other thread. Not because it is around, but because it ended like that. Removed context and lock.

Huh? What does your question or comment have to do with the thread?

It's remarkably similar to that ubiquitous "We" that is frequently misused a lot too...

Good point. And I think everybody agrees that nobody should use..  wait.

Regarding a positive message/mood/aura, I'd vote for Poppet as the most enjoyable member by the way.

Why do I love AVSIM?  Because no where else can you find the breadth of knowledge you can find here.   Bar none, AVSIM is THE strongest "brand" in the flightsim community.

Say what you will about politics and such, but if you ignore such pettiness, like I do, and just focus on the substance and the user reach, I cannot find a better alternative.

I'll be honest, I have been burned out on simming, as I haven't even opened FSX in months, but I still love to come here for the ambiance and to stay current on trends in aviation and simming.  I don't think you can find the level of expertise here on simming, especially troubleshooting, anywhere else.

My earlier answer to "why I love AVSIM" was whimsical... but here goes the real reasons.

1) I have to come here almost every day at least once to see whats going in my Sim world. Yes..that is pretty loaded thing to say.. For pretty much everything related to flight sim, this AVSIM is my Goto site. Period!

2) Whenever I get in trouble by doing something I shouldn't have done to my sim or to my PC that runs the sim... my, "go to" site to post my troubles and get help/answers is AVSIM.

3) I like helping folks if I know the answer to their Qs. This is my little give back to all the take I have had at AVSIM. This is satisfying for me.

4) Like others have said, I love the library for so many goodies.

5) The Mods here are sim enthusiasts and they help out a lot with SME (Flightsim, subject matter experts)

5) I am an AVSIM Addict as much as I am a Flightsim addict!  I can't stay away even if I want to. While I am flying my PMDG 777 on a long haul, I am on AVSIM...browsing. They go hand in hand.

Love AVSIM.  Can't tell you how many times I have found answers that have helped me over the years.  Great bunch of people only willing to help.  Hope that I too have helped others.  To me, that's what a great forum is all about.

How could you not LOVE AVSIM and all the help it provides. Plus all the reasons that have already been mentioned above, AVSIM is a cornerstone to our flightsim community....

Cheers

Ah yes Bill. I think you and I both know a prolific user of the euphemism "we" when he means "I"

...despite our ups and downs, our personalities and differences, our favorites and our fights....

We all stood as one behind Richard Harvey as he battled his fight against cancer some twelve+ years ago.

Squabble we might when it comes to sims of choice, EULAs, signatures and such. When it really matters, we know when to put it down. I don't know what made him pop into my head tonight, but this thread was the first place I wanted to mention it.
