Still not quite sure the reasoning behind your comment in the first place.

Oh well...

I did... but I don't want to really consider anyone of our flight simulator community members as a "flamer". It's just so beneath who we are. Thus the reason for asking for clarification.

No... UNIGINE Sim has given us access and have asked us to only provide that access on the NGFS SIM-Posium.

Why would UNIGINE Sim give exclusive access to a Site with around a hundred members when they could reach out to the largest and oldest sim community on the Web which is Avsim ?

Something about this Sim-Posium makes me feel very uneasy

Something about this Sim-Posium makes me feel very uneasy

First of all the SIM-Posium doesn't have exclusive access... but what access we do have, is because I took the time to reach out to UNIGINE Sim.... because I believe that UNIGINE Sim is a very good candidate as a 3D Engine and could be used to build a next generation flight simulator. But it took someone to ask them...

So... let me ask you this... instead of feeling very uneasy... and reporting that to the entire AVSIM community... why not take the time to do some research, ask some questions, get some answers.

The SIM-Posium is only a website, built to gather the flight simulator community into a unified effort to progress flight simulation. If that makes you feel very uneasy... I'm sorry... and I'm sorry that there are so many who can't take it upon themselves to... at the very least... allow one individual to give back to the community without all of this grief.

I took a step forward, believing that the community would join together to build something great together... if it happens, fantastic... if it doesn't... so be it.

Can you imagine, just for a moment... what could happen... if all of us stopped... and just asked...

What's surprising me a bit is that you've got a copyright bar at the bottom of your website, yet, almost no images on your website appear to be original. Have you gotten permission from everyone to use their photos/screenshots?

Have you considered improving the website layout? Moving the forums to MyBB was a good move as it's much easier to look at. However, as a UI designer, I find the rest of the site is quite difficult to navigate and just kind of cluttered (part of what's kept me from really reading through much of anything). I think there's better ways that information could be presented to the user.

183 days - but until what?

Also, curious as to why you picked "nexgenflightsim" over "nextgenflightsim?"

If you read the Articles... you'll find some of the answers to your questions...

The rest of your questions... I'm not really sure my answers would be satisfactory to you... such as nextgen vs nexgen... I don't understand your reasoning for asking the question since it really shouldn't be an issue... it's like asking someone why their mother named them Steve instead of Stephen.... it's just an abbreviated name.

As a UI designer... if you really feel that the site could use some redesigning, why not work with our System Admin... after all... it's a community website and your input would be welcomed.

You say AVSIM isn't good enough for UNIGINE Sim. Also you now have an administrator and are taking the members only' route.

Perhaps you now consider you postion in relation to AVSIM's forums?

Gerry Howard

You know, there are times when certain members of the AVSIM forum disappoint me....and this is one of them. Instead of throwing negative comments at Stephen, perhaps the more sceptical members of this forum could step back, take a deep breath, and then proceed in a more constructive manner? With respect to the tech demo only being available to registered NGFS SIM-Posium members, maybe this is to encourage people to join, and get actively involved in the project? Do we really need to invent conspiracy theories regarding ulterior motives? I see enough rubbish like that on the Above Top Secret forum.

By the way, where does Stephen state that "AVSIM isn't good enough for UNIGINE Sim"?

Like I said before, my comment to you ended with a smiley face..meaning that it was meant to be light-hearted.  So rather than analyse my comment to the nth degree and imply that I might be a 'flamer', I would personally let it go and focus instead on your own website rather than constantly trying to drum up membership here on Avsim and in the process creating waves

I notice that you've also been pushing your website hard on other flight forums where on one site you wrote.. "Please Please Please... register at (nexgenflightsim) and use the Forum "NGFS Features".

They say any publicity is good publicity, but personally I'm a bit tired of having the SIM-Posium pushed and pushed here on the AVSIM hangar chat forum, which after all is for general chat, not sim development

We know your url now, so if members wanted to join on en-mass they would have by now. As it stands the forum seems to consist at the moment of 4 or 5 SIM-Posium members batting ideas back and forward to each other.

Like I said to you a week or so ago...I wish you well in your endeavour. But many of us, myself included, have many doubts about it  and would rather not get involved.

Like Glyn said yesterday: 'Something about this Sim-Posium makes me feel very uneasy'.

Best wishes.

By the way, where does Stephen state that "AVSIM isn't good enough for UNIGINE Sim"?

You won't find it, because it was never said. At all.

I get what you are saying... but he's doing something the community might find of interest, and keeping us up to date. If I were to find his efforts bothersome, I myself would likely simply ignore the topic, and that would be that. Hmmmmm...... I may also be partially to blame, as I was the one who came across the site early, and may have inadvertently helped create a negative first impression before Stephen arrived to even defend his concept. Mea Culpa.

Even if that was not the case, though, I find the idea of simply cutting off discussion of the topic nearly as unsettling as some apparently find the Nexgenflightsim site itself. Its a very fine line for the mods, I guess, but I myself would just stay watchful.

And I would with all possible respect suggest Stephen B. keep in mind that Avsim is a community of all types of people, and there are going to be all types of responses. In all cases, especially on something with the ability to arouse strong opinions and reactions like this, its best for everyone to be wearing their thickest available skin, and read their replies probably thrice before hitting the "post" button.

Time for me to shut up, now.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Like Glyn said yesterday: 'Something about this Sim-Posium makes me feel very uneasy'.

What are you afraid of?

I've spoken in the previous thread - people who are actually capable of doing the work are likely going to either join an established team like FlightGear, or they're going to follow Austin's route and write it themselves without input from a forum full of non-technical backseat drivers.

But with that said, the only fear I have out of all this is that it's going to be a waste of time. What is making people so "uneasy"?

Cheers!

Luke

I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.

I am going to join in,perhaps because I am old enough to know about earlier attempts at creating flight sims.  We still have FLYlegacy (simvol)as an open source. Aerowinx's sole code writer is a genius, and wonder if he would be interested in adding to what is now exclusively a 747 sim.  We also had  Simon Hradecky(Nomissoft), responsible for AS2, who was writing the new AS3 for Aerosoft. And of course, Flightgear.

The problem is a lack of volunteers who can write sim code free of charge.

I am confident that in a few years if not Steam, PD3 will have a top notch sim that builds on many years of experience.

Sure thing. But I think its also about trying to get the balance right and not being too pushy or controlling.  Personally I feel Stephen has been quite heavy handed in this respect on Avsim and his own forum in pushing for attention and hits..  On his Sim-Posium site for example members were informed that they could only download the 3gb demo if they posted a minimum of 10 posts on the forums, reduced to 5 posts after some members complained that 10 was too high.  So goodness knows what hoops members' will have to jump through if the mythical 'nexgen' flight-sim ever became available on demo ;-)

What are you afraid of?

I never mentioned the word 'afraid'.

Where did I mention the word 'afraid'?

You did not, however you quoted another who used the word "uneasy..."

synonyms:

worried, anxious, troubled, disturbed, agitated, rattled, nervous, tense, overwrought, edgy, jumpy, apprehensive, restless, discomfited, perturbed, fearful, uncomfortable, unsettled, jittery, antsy, trepidatious, afraid
