Active Sky Cloud Art for FSX & P3D - Released!

I bought it for the upgrade price of $41.92 at SimMarket

Sorry Jim, what did you upgrade to/from.. I am confused. You are saying you will keep ASN for now for FSX- so you upgraded ASN to AS16 for P3D? Is this correct?

  • No.   Neither is needed to be done.     This is not intended to anyone particular but:   If you don't like the price then don't buy it. If you don't like the look then don't buy it.   Problem

Just purchased it. I got the upgrade discount I had previously upgraded to ASN with ASE. Now I got the discount price for AS16. Also got ASCA as I want to see those themes transitions in real flight. Downloading now.

From my understanding using those two products, while feasible, will render the dynamic texture loading feature inert.

3D Force will do it for you (texture loading on the fly) and AS16 will provide the weather real time - when REX releases a weather engine then it would be all in the family but for now I will use AS16 only as my weather injector as for cloud art  I will pass nothing will come close to 3D Force - just my 2 cents

Guys - this is a release announcement thread - let's keep it that way. If you want to start a new thread comparing products - please feel free to do so.

Hi,

I was thinking about the dynamic texture loading for clouds in general.
What will it bring me/us? I understand the concept (I think) but what exactly is the advantage?

Example:
I leave EHAM - Amsterdam and fly to LFMN - Nice and let's assume they have about the same weather.
Why would the clouds in LFMN look different from the ones in EHAM? Why do I need to have different cloud textures at LFMN?

Exactly - you wouldn't because there is no change, as you said. The dynamic change is triggered by the weather - no weather change?  No in sim change. It's the opposite that would be a problem - a big change in weather from EHAM to LFMN that DOESN'T show well in the sim.

The various features are there for those that desire them. There are still simmers that don't use real weather at all - as long as they have some pretty clouds, they are happy. There are others who need accurate depiction in order to calculate fuel burn, climb rates, etc.

Each of us have our own "thing" that gives us the "aha!" moment.

Hi Vic,

I'm afraid I don't understand.

Currently I use ASN and REX and use thus a pre-selected/fixed set of REX cloud textures (soft clouds to be precise)

These same cloud textures are thus used both at EHAM and LFMN to represent clouds (regardless if the weather is the same at both airports or not)

What is the added value of having different cloud textures at LFMN?

Maybe I'm a bit dim, I dunno
