LOL...I find myself staring at the ceiling, my toes.  I have yet to be excited or inspired by the 777.  Don't get me wrong, PMDG did a really, really nice job on it but, so far for me, it's been pretty boring.  I keep waiting for an aha moment.  Makes me nervous about getting the 747...as much as I love 747s...don't want more of the same.

Really with either jet you have to fly short haul to keep interest.

What kind of short hauls do you fly?

PMDG included the 747-400D which is the high density variant used by the Japanese airlines, flying Japan domestic routes (They use 777s on HD routes too). Japan is roughly the size of California & Oregon so, yes you can quite easily fly short hauls.

You also can also fly freight, which typically fly shorter hauls than their long haul PAX counterparts. I usually fly freight or charters myself. I like freight and charter because it really opens up the number of places you can fly. Right now I am flying my charter T7 from Diego Garcia to Oklahoma City...why?...because I can!

Remember tho, in this fantasy you create your own restrictions. You won't go to FS jail or loose your virtual license if you fly a Connie painted in fictional JetBlue colors, from Orcas Island to Area 51. You don't have to limit your virtual flying because of decisions made by real world airline beancounters.

Just like the automation of the 777, you don't have to use all of the automation. Fly it VOR to VOR, or fly it by hand a lot. In fact I find the automation makes it easier to handfly for longer periods, simply because there are less systems to deal with with no first officer helping me out.

The 747 is much more like the NGX in that while they are a little automated...(more so than Classic 747/737), but they still require a lot of pilot interaction with systems configuration, such as fuel, hydraulic, pneumatics...etc

I think a good comparison between 747 and 777 in terms of automation levels, would be P-47 vs P-51. The P-47 requires the pilot monitor/control all the power settings and all the cooling systems, WIth the P-51, some of the power settings, and all the cooling systems are automatic...thus freeing the pilot to focus on flying and dogfighting.

Hi guys. I fly  the T7, NGX, old 747 and I got the new V3. The NGX seems to be the 'busier' of these planes. The old 747 seemed out of time, perhaps due to the fmc. The T7 as stated by some simmers, very modern and all auto.. but let me say that the 747 V3 is also very automated. This bird flies like you program it in the fmc and is precise in everything. If you have a good sound system it is like a real sky song. The engines sound wonderful. What a pleasure.  Has got a glorious sound. Unbelievable, really. And together with A2A's Accu-Feel V2, to mention one add on, I'll say to those who plan to buy it, Go Ahead!  Don't even think twice. It even beats the T7. You hear everything. If you don't take/off properly, the flex on the wings can reach amazing angles. On my first flight, that, happened to me. You realize  how good this thing really is. Even in bad weather no problem in catching the localizer and g/s, for example. You hear the wind gusting outside as the wings move up and down.

But again the accuracy of the instruments as set by yourself is simply amazing and together with the beauty of the Queen of the skies, this package is going to be hard to beat in the foreseeable future. I flew the Qantas with GE engines I believe, on the descent, you must listen to that sound, again.

I would like to hear from simmers more advanced than myself, what they think of this plane all types of flights. Not just the experts with vids, but simmers in general.    Chers guys.     john Goncalves

Nice thing about the 400D is that it's great for trips around Europe of 2000 miles or less.

I buy anything PMDG puts out, no matter what it is.  I've been trying to get a can of that PMDG Cola. (Now I'm kicking myself in the butt for not buying the 747 printed manuals when I had the chance.  I have all the other ones)

I love the new 747. It is so beautiful, yet so easy on frames and VAS.

It flies like a dream and the sounds are so immersive.

If you have ever considered buying an aircraft other than the NGX, the new 747 is the one to buy.

Buying the newest release will also get the benefit of the most recent discoveries that PMDG has made in saving VAS.

I'm also guilty of gassing up the 737 and 747 for much shorter flights than would ever be used for in real life.

The Hawaiian Island chain is pretty fun to fly along, stopping at each major Island, only going as high as 10-15K feet between each.  Keeps the fun stuff (takeoffs and landings) front and center.

As Mark has stated above, I love the short haul sectors as well. I do most of my short haul in OZ, Hawaii and Canada/Alaska its great fun.

Ill probably do a long haul in the 747v3 tonight but might do a few trans continental flights here at home from YSSY-YPPH-YBBN-YMML etc.

We have 3 days of record temperatures here today through Sunday 45-47 Deg C (115 F) so it will make performance interesting:)

You got it right Robert/FSXtreme. I fully agree.

Another potentially short route 747 simulation you could run would be mimicking the flights of the presidential VC-25. Granted, I don't think anyone has whipped up an Air Force One paint scheme yet, but that aircraft certainly takes a lot of short flights to some shorter-than-average runways than her passenger cousins.

It's a video game so you can fly anyway you want :)

I do 1-2h flight's with my 777F playing a virtual cargo company and etc.
