Introducing Flight Sim World!

Featured Replies

Thanks for posting here Aimee.  Takes guts IMO.

Anyway, I love what you're all doing to bring FSW to market...itll be a sure but for me. However, I must say..i hope it's not just a polished FSX with a new splash screen. I read the features and they're nice, but I think after all these years many of us are hoping for a sea change. Hopefully we the community can actually make an impact to FSW's continual development.

Will the new sim still be using a similar system to FSX for calculating the flight model based on performance tables etc, or will it be using something closer to the blade element theory system in XP? I seem to recall reading somewhere since the announcement that there has been a change but can't find the reference in any of the DTG material.

As they are using FSX code, it is safe to assume that the only major changes to the flight model will be the implementation of accu-feel. Rewriting the flight model for instance to include blade-element theory would probably take years to get right. An advanced native flight model will therefore be one of the major advantages of XP for the foreseeable future. Addon devs have proven that you can circumvent the native FSX flight model and let your own one run outside of the sim though.

In order for us to progress the technology further and push the engine to its limits, compatibility can't be maintained. This also speaks to optimizing the sim to take better advantage of modern PCs

Have you taken any steps to improve multi core/thread utilization? This clearly is the trend for CPUs nowadays.

That is our hope as well, which is why we are releasing into Early Access!

Not out of the box, but it is definitely something we are investigating

Get the SDK out ASAP, so you get the 3rd party devs busy. That is THE most important thing if you want to be successful with FSW.

Will there be a tweaking guide

Just kidding. Looks nice. I think the 64 bit will be refreshing.

Like I said on DTG's forum, they really need to keep third party devs strictly under their thumb. P3D has gone a long way down that road in that add-ons have(generally speaking) now have to fit in with the sim not the other way round. In FSX it was like the Wild West, with some developers making FSX work with their plane/airport and to heck with the rest of your stuff. Having said that, it did at least keep the forums busy!

Today is the day!

We are delighted to (finally) let you know that Flight Sim World™, will be released into Steam’s Early Access program in the coming weeks.Copy from the press release is as follows:

So today is not the day? :laugh:

In all seriousness - looks great, from the launch video, and will no doubt have folks over at LM a little bit troubled.  Am I right in my understanding that Flightsim World is based on the same previous FSX code that LM use for P3D?
