FSUIPC for V4. Do I really need it?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Since I don't use the comprehensive controllers (merely Logitech Sidewinder instead), I guess that I won't need FSUIPC for PMDG/ORBX/FSLABS/ASN and other stuff.

Please clear my concerns.

FSUIPC offers much more than controller assignments. For instance, I use LUA scripts extensively for all kinds of purposes (e.g., voice checklists for each of my planes). I personally wouldn't want to fly without it, even though I do not use it for axes assignments.

I also don't use it for axes or key assignments.  But, many other addons rely on it and it has the AI traffic limiter, auto save and other features which are very handy.

FSUIPC hasn't earned the nickname "Swiss Army Knife of FS Tools" for no reason at all. It truly has dozens and dozens of what might appear at first blush to be trivial features, but the combination of them just makes the sim perform much more nicely, and the experience more fulfilling.

Jim,

How do you plan to use this log? :-)

if all you ever used it for was controller config and auto save, like I did. You can get by without quite easy tbh. I cant say I've missed it in P3Dv4, wasn't to pleased about paying full price for it again for what I used it for

Same here. Have no reasons for the full version. Depends on what you do with P3D and addons :-)

You can hold off purchasing the full version unless you have the need for the features.  I will wait on my purchase.  I needed to buy one as during Windows 8 years, usb joystick would disconnect (see my windows 8 epic joystick thread lol).  And in P3dv3 - I only used it for VAS monitor and autosave.  But now VAS issues are thing of the past - I will wait to purchase it.  I will do it for sure but not right now

I fly PMDG long haul and autosave is handy and flexible.

If you don't know if you need it, you don't need it. The addons that require it will use the free one. (I am assuming there is still a free version of FSUIPC5.)

I use it for making comparisons with flights.  I use the bottom portion of the log:

Minimum frame rate was 11.5 fps, Maximum was 66.2 fps
Average frame rate for running time of 4156 secs = 34.2 fps
Maximum AI traffic for session was 354 aircraft
Memory managed: 1949 Allocs, 1948 Freed

It gives me an idea as to what might be consuming resources.  In this case there were no problems.  When I finish a flight, I'll immediately open up the fsuipc.log and then save it such as KLAS_KSFO_ASN_OrbxNoCal_ProATC_PMDG747.  Sometimes other members tell me they have issues with a flight plan and I can show them my data.  Before P3Dv3, it also monitored VAS.

For what you have listed, you don't need FSUIPC5.  But as others have suggested, it's a useful tool, makes Pete so wealthy he takes vacations every other week, owns a real 737, and gets kick backs for doing Trump's tax returns and he's not even a US citizen ... hehe, putting joking aside.  It's a very handy tool and several add-ons require it (the "Free" version), the fact Pete offers and supports a free version is outstanding.  He's worked very hard to bring FSUIPC5 to P3D V4, a man of value and commitment.

Cheers, Rob.

And, from the years of usage I have obtained from it, I did purchase V5, just to reward a decent chap.

Thanks Pete.

Maurice.
