Drzewiecki Design - New York Airports v2 released

I'm not sure I'm going to stick with this guy.  Landing during dawn I was distracted at his forced fake light glows sticking up from lamps like little candles, and I am still trying to get support from him.  I registered at the forum but didn't get a confirmation email and I sent a support email but no reply.  I am also amazed at this guy's audacity to claim his AFCADs cannot be modified with ADE because that constitutes reverse engineering... well how else are you going to modify his simplistic apron links meant for AI aircraft (I never use) so you can get a realistic push back path using GSX.  I suspect the longer I stew over this decision to try DRZ the more likely I will be removing it from my world.

I ran into the same problem trying to register on the forum, and I too never received a response to my support email. But, I have NY city and I love it in P3Dv4...hard to believe all the structures included, and yet no OOM even with PMDG aircraft. I know that's not a function of DD NY City, but I love that scenery. I am considering the NY airports, as I see folks here, who's opinions I trust, that are having good luck with the airports.

As far as sticking with DD...Stanislaw of DD seems to be very active in the forums. He answers a TON of questions and attempts to help solve a TON of issues. I'll be honest, I don't know how he has the time to spend on forums and still run his business. You may not like all his responses, but personally I respect that he tells-it-like-it-is. I'm not here to be a cheerleader for DD, but I have seen some pretty sharp responses to posts by the PMDG folks, and the LM folks...including some stuff I considered WAY out of line as a response to paying customers that were just asking a legitimate question.

Like I said, you may not like everything you hear from Stanislaw, but you gotta admit, he seems to be a straight shooter, and he honestly tries to help solve problems.

Odd.... lurks in aviation forums but doesn't take care of his customers in his support forum?  I don't mind straight shooters, I'm retired military and don't like the alternative.  However, I've got airport sceneries (no cityscapes, not interested) from most developers and think DRZ is just a few steps above Blueprint and not as good as ImagineSim..... doesn't even compare to the top quality developers.  The one thing that all top quality developers have in common is good customer support in their customer support forum.   Also, AFCAD modification is as accepted by all developers as user preference for different aircraft.... no one is changing anything related to the developers product except how AI traffic behaves and I could less about that, and nothing new as been invented in that niche for a decade.  I want a parking spot that works for the aircraft I parking there and using GSX for marshaling and pushback and I will modify AFCADs to that end.

What's the final verdict in these airports? Most interested in JFK and lga. There appears to be some mixed opinions on this thread.

Thanks!

I can speak to EWR and JFK (and DCA) since I can't comment on LGA because I can't get the sim to remove the Imaginesim LGA that I had installed.  If anyone knows an easy way I am all ears.  EWR and JFK look great.  I am very pleased with everything so far.  I think the visual detail is great and the performance isn't an issue on my PC.

You're asking for opinions, I assume you know there will not be a consensus in a public forum like this.  The old FSDT JFK is much better graphically than DRZ, even if it is dated and LGA is also available from a known quality developer... I don't recall off the top of my head.  I needed a TEB and EWR and I'll keep those but the other two are already gone from my world.  I much prefer to support a developer that supports customers.

I like all of them and they are all in my sim. Contrary to Dan's opinion above, DD did a TeamViewer session with a problem I was having with his airports when I first installed them and spent over an hour trouble shooting before figuring out what was the matter and providing a work around. I'd say that was good customer support! His LGA is what the actual new LGA will look like and not Imaginesims as theirs was based off a concept that changed.

How did you get them to do a teamviewer session to help get it installed?

Interesting. Yea, I think the fsdt looks pretty bad for my taste.  Very bad textures in my opinion. To each his own I suppose.

They won't let me into the forum.  I've applied for access and pressed the send confirmation email three times.  No email. Not in spam folder and not filtered either.  This happens occasionally, I got a confirmation email from one board that I signed up for 3 months ago and of course my username had already expired.  The forum managers don't always check to see if the email system is working.  Even happens to PMDG once in awhile with their password resets.

I sent an email to the support address and never got a reply.  There's only so much effort I'm going to make for a product that is this mediocre.

Hi.

Please do not post hate speech about us - we always try to answer each and every customer message and accusing us of poor customer service is very much unfair. Nobody blocked you from our support forum. Sometimes customers' e-mail providers block our e-mails but this is not our fault. You can always contact us directly on e-mail and ask to manually activate your forum account. There is really no problem with that.

Please provide us some screenshots of how that "forced fake light glows" look in your sim. The lighting should look exactly as on our promotional screenshots, unless something is wrong with the mip-maps settings of your graphic processor. I do not have many night VFR hours as a pilot but judging from I've see myself and from many video sources we have studied, our lighting looks realistic (as far as graphic display settings are set correctly). Additionally, did you try the dimmed light texture?

Calling a License Agreement - "audacity" - is never a good way of solving issues. I am sure more authors would agree that editing any files, including AFD files, without a written permission from an author, is indeed a reverse engineering and often a violation of author's rights.

You are very wrong. AFD files contain much more information than how AI should behave (f/e ATC approaches, excludes, flattens, navaids, placed objects) and often customers editing AFD files result in some of that content being removed, producing sufficient bugs in a product.

KEWR and KJFK are just mediocre in my opinion, about a decade behind in building surface textures or materials.

I am not sure how you came to that conclusion (and I am sorry you did) but please note that the alternative commercial products for NY airports available at the market are much heavier in terms of FPS and VAS usage. Our set of 6 (!) airports can easily be used with our NY City X products and very complex aircraft like PMDG. The point was to provide our customers 6 good, up-to-date and flyable airports rather than modeling scratches on terminal buildings (which we can technically do indeed) but making a product unflyable even with one airport activated.

This might mean that your e-mail provider blocks a lot of e-mail content, including our e-mails. Can you try registering on our forum with f/e free Gmail account?

Personally I think this product is fantastic value, and the balance between detail/quality, and performance is just perfect.  I've always had nothing but top notch support from DD.

I'm sorry if someone else has had a different experience but perhaps working with them instead of shooting from the hip would lead to a positive outcome for everyone?

In light of this, I wish all developers would either:

- Close one parallel runway to departures and one to arrivals, ie at KEWR close 22L/4R to departures and 22R/4L to arrivals so there can be some reasonable flow of AI and mimic how it's done at most large airports with parallel runways (or as close as possible within the confines of P3D).  It's really annoying to be a departing aircraft at a multi-runway airport waiting behind a long line of other departing aircraft because ATC is allowing arrivals on all runways.

- Provide an option to do this or leave all runways open if there's a thought that not all people want runways closed to arrivals and departures.

Also, for an airport like KEWR, it would be great if there was an option to close secondary runways so that P3D ATC doesn't select a single, short runway as the sole runway for arrivals and departures (ie 11/29 at KEWR).

The best example of this being done well is FlyTampa CYYZ, which comes with a host of AFD files that you can copy and paste into the sim for varying wind conditions to mimic real world ops.  FlyTampa EHAM does this really well too and takes it a step up with the ability to configure the airport runways from their configurator tool.

These are primarily the things that would cause me (and I suspect a lot of others) to go editing an AFD file.  I really have no interest in editing AFD files, but sometimes it's necessary to do some of this clean up and make the airport function as it does in real life.

I realize there's a language barrier at work here, so please take this as a gentle edit, but I think you mean to say "criticism," or maybe even "harsh criticism."  Hate speech is something different.  It's important to draw the distinction.

I agree with Bill (JYW) that it'd probably be better to work with customers, rather than against them.
