Anyway, after simming from 1986 to 2009, I was out of flight simming from 2010-2017. I come back, and....BAM!....all of these things that were "impossible" in 2009 (like smoothness, moving weather radar, 3D terrain gauges, cloud decks and shadows, etc.) are suddenly all here. For those of you who've been around 2010-2017, when did flight simming get this awesome? Hey Rhett, Welcome back to simming and yes...it has had exponential advancements just in the past few years. I've been at Avsim since it started and moved in and out of simming over the years, but these past few years have been better for simming than all the previous years combined. Not only do we have one 64bit sim, we have many (don't want to give a number because it depends on what you count). The future only looks bright for our hobby, and when VR matures to 4k or better and we have fully articulated hands within the VR world, we're in for quite a ride! February 8, 20188 yr Author You know, I realize now that the money I spent on nFSX add-ons for ten years was always in the hopes of making it into the sim I now have with a nominal reinvestment in P3DV4. I still glad I waited for the 64 bit version though. I don't think I would switch if it was still 32 bit. That makes all the difference! Vic green

AS Airbus 3xx miss me a lot in v4, haved it in v3, this series for me was perfect and I don't need accurate aircraft as fslabs do, because the limits of mine computer... Now how many years must I waiting for the aerosoft version... regarding the crj experience. Now the PMDG 737-x replace this in mine v4, but in reality I preferred the clean well organised cockpit and management of the Airbus. Must said that I learned a few days the Airbus in details. Hope too a good version of Embraer aircrafts, well organised for fast rotation and access to short airports.

Rob ill bet the dynamic light is still dreadful on the 31st December.. Say $50 fair bet ?? easy bet huh, like taking candy from a baby, as you said 2 weeks ago they are focusing on the simmer.

That's some great commentary for two reasons. 1. It reminds me that an already great platform about to get better (even if it only provides more tools to developers). 2. There doesn't seem to be any indication (at least for this year) that they'll pull the plug on P3D.

February 8, 20188 yr Hi Vic, Glad you're enjoying it - I was one of those guys who had a white knuckle death grip on FS9 and 2D panels - the good news is I missed FSX entirely - going straight to P3Dv3... I kept FS9 around for a bit with every intention of going back and flying my old favorites - there is no going back - LOL - seriously... Sometimes - late in the afternoon - alone in the cockpit - when the shadows are long - and - the light just plays across all the nooks and cranny's of well made VC - it's almost magical... Regards, Scott

February 8, 20188 yr You are right. I switched over last summer. After years with FSX and a ton of add ons, I knew I had to go with XP11 or V4 due to OOM's. The experience has been great so far. I do miss some of my scenery from FSX, but I know stuff will eventually be developed or updated. If FT would release V4 installers for more of their airports, things would fill in nicely. Right now I am flying the NGX exclusively, but I am looking forward to the QW787. I had the T7 in FSX, but I didn't fly it enough to justify repurchasing it. I just couldn't get into it for some reason. Nah, this is the normal in flightsimming. FS98, FS2000, FS9, FSX, Pro Pilot, Fly!, Flight Unlimited... It all happened within a few years from the late 90's to the early 00's. Then, from 2006 onwards..stagnation. The dark ages of flight simming. No progress for nearly a decade. Developers got lazy when they could just keep selling the same $60 addon year after year without ever touching it to update the code. I for one am happy for the return to more normal development schedules and many alternative sims popping up. -
