Free upgrade?

I remember seeing a thread in FSDT forum talking about an expected reduced price for v1 users - 60-70% discount

I would be very surprised 1. if there was a discount for V1 owners and 2. if there was it would be that high. Its always nice when a developer gives a discount on a new version of an addon to those who own the original but this is apparently built from scratch. I would say that arguing that moving from Prepar3D V3 to V4 there could be a more reasonable expectation of a discount than moving from the original FSDT KORD to the new one.  I wouldn't expect a discount on this one but I'll take it if its available

Where's competition for Madrid Barajas? To my best knowledge there are 0 (zero) Payware versions available for Prepar3d4 right now. Latinwings has been working on it since 2016, at least, but obviously shifted it to the afterburner. No sign that Sim-Wings has intentions to make their stone-aged Aerosoft FSX version Prepar3d4 compatible (Megaairport Madrid Professional, 6.99 € upgrade).

While we have three versions of Barcelona.

Competition at it's best.

Kind regards, Michael

That's economics...

If there isn't a strong market for a product....then it's most likely not goiing to be produced. And no, just because you and a few others want that airport, it doesn't mean there's a market for it.

And yes it's competition at it's best. It's obvious that no one wants to make that airport because they realized thst they woukd most likely have a larger profit margin if they made ORD.

It's the same reason I haven't gotten a Houston hobby made for p3d yet.

I can now choose what version of KORD I want and I will now be a how to spend my money on the BEST one in my opinion. I'm not strapped just to one version.

I understand that variety is good and it helps to give everyone an opportunity be represented with what they want in their own fantasy flightsim land. That's awesome that we have so many developers, however, having a couple options to choose from when it comes to add ons is what this hobby needs...

Imagine if there was still only one sim to use? No xplane, no AF2, no p3d....nothing but fsx....

Now tell me what economics makes people wanting Barcelona trice and no one wants Madrid. Maybe because they prefer that guy ...  ah no politics.

It always baffles me when people go "why isn't there any payware for Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo!???" Or some foreign place that nobody has ever heard of.

It's because nobody flies there!!

What about EINN Shannon? Stepping stone between the USA and Europe. That is top of my "most wanted" list.

Madrid isn't exactly Lubumbashi.  Not sure whether that makes a valid comparison.  I'd think there would be a pretty large customer market for Madrid but hey...all in due time I'm sure...

Its nearly impossible to prevent over-saturation of certain airports as the decision which airport is going to be the next project is made way before its going to be publicly announced (in some cases even years before release). And it doesn't help that devs like to keep their plans secret until shortly before release.

It is frustrating to see 3 or even 4 developers produce the same scenery within a few months of each other - specific examples include Barcelona, Tenerife South and now Chicago. However, I'm damn grateful that I have a choice at each of them so that I can buy the version that I like the most, which is definitely going to be this benchmark version of KORD by FSDT.

Want to see what happens with no choice? Take a look at the available South African airports or the soon-to-be released Sangster Intl and tell me if you're happy with what the market with just one developer at each location is currently offering.

Come on! Don't take it litteraly. He was trying to make a point! A valid point, in my opinion.

It's simple economics. If there's a market for a scenery - and it's possible to be created with regards to help and cooperation with various authorities in the given country - it will be done.

You aren't making any sense. Its economics......apparently, there is more of a market for Barcelona and not Madrid. I am sorry but that's just life....

what do politics have to do with any of this?

Chicago is a hub for the biggest airline in the world and hub to another airline with the largest international presence. Not only that, all the big international players fly into there. Not only that, but its gone through a lot of changes since the last add-on.

Yup, thats another important aspect affecting the decision. Security is so tight nowadays, some airports will simply not allow some random "scenery-dev-guy" to roam around airside and take pictures of possibly security critical places and installations. Although some scenery devs seem to be perfectly happy to create their addons solely based on a satellite image from google earth, the likes of FlightBeam, etc wont even look at an airport if they dont get a chance to take thousands of pictures.

If i recall correctly thats one of the main reasons we are still waiting for AAA quality south African airports like Jo'burg

Agreed. South America is exhibit A. Zero native P3Dv4 big hub type airports. Would love SCL, GRU, EZE in native P3Dv4 with FlyTampa, FSDT, Flightbeam type quality. South America is a ghost continent for me right now.
