Orbx True Earth for P3Dv4

Recommended Posts

We are in the early stages of TE tech.  Eventually, I am assuming there will be a season layer added to TE: England down the road (I can't go to from Winter FTX Germany and land in TE England summer textures....not doing that).

TE Netherlands already has the seasons.

Yeah addon requirement space is getting bigger, and I need SSDs not HDDs.

TE Netherland is okay on the system, it just really shows on how outdated P3Dv4.3 graphic engine is now.  The engine needs to be overhauled completely by LM, right now it is like some old car engine with all sorts of engine mods added to it.

You dont need SSDs for photoscenery.  and 1.2Tb is nothing in HDD storage - I recently picked up a 6Tb HDD for about £100

You do need SSD’s for detailed PR scenery If you use multiple views like me

With 3 views I switched from a 600 SSD ( 540 read/write ) to a faster 2Tb M2 SSD ( 1800 read/write ).

Flying above True Eart NL not my P3D SSD but my Windows SSD regurlarly had 100% load. Which caused small stutters .

My 7940X can handle about 350-370 mb/s, so you should think that 540 mb/s would be more than enough.

But doing benchmarktests with 8-16-32 kb, the performance of the SSD sometimes dropped to 197 mb/s. That is 1/3 of the 600.

The M2 SSD has 600 mb/s left in worse case..

Regards, Gerard

more pauses (and longer pauses) will appear when flying, adding so much detail and scenery would come with a cost, i know it has not been tested yet, but with eu openlc, vector germany north and south plus all our eyecandy airport scenery-just my 5 cents

Not with X-Plane 11 or Aerofly FS2....

I'll stay with my Horizon & Playsims stuff then as it already comes with 3D POI models and trees

PlayHorizon UK photoscenery comes with a handful of 3D landmark models, and not much else (you need ES Treescapes to add the trees). In addition, quite a lot of the England and Wales photoscenery textures suffer from colour saturation and texture resolution problems. I accepted these back in the day, but now I want (sorry.....need) something better. The photoscenery in ORBx TrueEarth has apparently been colour corrected, which should mean that the quality across the board is much more consistent. In addition, the 3D object database and autogen buildings will be light years beyond anything that PlayHorizon offered, and hopefully the autogen tree coverage will be even better than the already impressive TreeScapes from Earth Simulations. They also seem to be building more and more bespoke 3D landmark models (which is what I have wanted for ages), and I hope that they keep on doing so. There are so many interesting bridges/cathedrals/castles/stadiums and other interesting objects scattered across the UK landscape, and I want to see as many of them rendered in my flight simulator as possible!

Of course, all of this detail will force me to purchase a new PC. There is no way that I am getting TrueEarth UK and Ireland, and then setting the detail sliders to Medium. I will be slamming the sliders to the right, and they will be staying there!!

Out of curiosity I bought and installed Orbx Netherlands and found that if flying GA it was just about Ok but when trying to use a PMDG aircraft coupled with EHAM payware scenery the sim's performance degraded far too much. So generally I use NL2000 photoreal scenery that looks great and still provides decent fps. I guess the upcoming True Earth England will be similar to Netherlands performance wise but won't  be buying it, since i do little GA flying,

In the Config menu from TE NL you can uncheck settings to get a better framerate.

Use only static ships, oil tanks and tv towers to start with.

In p3d : no shadows , AG normal and radius medium or low , Clouds draw distance minimum, max Visibility 40 mls, no car Traffic and AI Traffic off or max 10.

That will give you a boost for jetflying.

I used horizon gen x + treescapes and uk2000 airfields, then I added just flights revolution x which adds trees, bushes and buildings, it really is quite effective but in P3D V3.4 I very quickly get to oom.  I need to now un  install all my V3.4 install for space and re install all into my V4 install.

Only thing that will be more difficult to do will be all my earth simulations packages, not so sure how to do them.

That said I will still get the orbx true earth UK packages as they come out as they do look great, it will be interesting to see how they run on my machine as it struggles with Netherlands a bit.

Orbx just posted previews for TrueEarth GB Central Xplane at https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/163078-coming-soon-trueearth-gb-central-for-x-plane-11/

If Orbx keep the same regions, quality and pricing between Xplane and P3D versions it shall be an immediate purchase for me, the Xplane screenshots certainly look awesome! Will be nice to finally update from my Horizon VFR X to something more recent and 3D (I looked in to the JF Revolution X product but the reviews and screenshots put me off).

Although I suspect we could be waiting a while yet because FTX Orbx haven't done any TrueEarth releases on P3D yet and I expect the production process for the autogen will be quite different, not to mention the current v4.3 of P3D having the blurry issue with photo scenery.

Hopefully the install isn't too massive as my primary HDD is only 1 TB? I know Horizon VFR X was 1.2m/px England & Wales (circa 66 GB) and 0.6m/px in Scotland (circa 115 GB), so assuming the 0.6m/px resolution for the whole of Great Britain should hopefully come in at under 250 GB.

Missed TrueEarth Netherlands for P3D?

@JoeFackel Oh did that happen already? Excuse my ignorance! How does it compare to the Xplane product? What is the performance like?

I can't compare as i don't use XP11 with any addons and that only VERY rarely.

And they're getting down to the price point where it's feasible to have a dedicated one (or more) for flight sim use. Microcenter had a 1tb Evo for something like $150 a couple weeks ago. I have a 500GB devoted solely to P3d, and by the time it starts getting full it probably won't even cost me 100 bucks to go get a second one.

And with 1.5 TB you would have only GB in 4 sesons if it ever came out ...

What about the US ... ?
