I was skeptical to say the least. Anyway before I updated I made a quick video from a .frs file I had recorded in Version 4.2 and then after I updated to V4.3 using the client, Content and Scenery MSi's and making sure that the Prepar3D.cfg was exactly the same as it was in the 4.2 version I used the same .frs file and made an exact replica video in V4.3. I used ShadowPlay to make the videos and capture the FPS which you can see side by side in the bottom corners or each video in the middle. Now there are very slight difference in these two videos but to all intent and purpose they are identical. They are synchronized to within less than a 1/2 second. Personally, I think their are less stutters and the FPS is ever so slightly higher in V4.2 video and I also think the clouds look better. Definitely not the knee smacker this thread lead me to believe. BTW I don't believe in the tooth fairy or the 5.9ghz 7600K either LOL! The entire point of this update is improved dynamic lighting at night and not the broad daylight setting you’ve tested in the video. Plus VC rendering technique has been completely redone allowing the external model to cast shadows even when you are in the VC.
June 27, 20187 yr Just upgraded from 4.1 to 4.3 following Poppets instructions completely. All running well and no issues so far on the test flight. I did delete the shaders file and the config file as instructed. Using the NGX at FSDT KLAS with all lights on and I can actually maintain my monitor refresh rate of 24 instead of having my FPS in the teens. 4x SSAA is too much but at night that's not really necessary for me. 8x MSAA does the trick. Looks like I'll be doing quite a bit of simming tonight. edit: Also performance is a bit better in general. Same settings with the exception of upping the water detail to ultra and I maintained 24 all the way into LAS. Before I would have to run unlimited to do that. I'll do some testing in heavier areas. Once FFTF dynamic gets updated I feel like I'll be golden. I'm going to try testing out 4x SSAA now to see if I can handle that. Upon further testing it looks like some airports give me stutters with dynamic lighting. FB MSP had stutters with the airport dynamic lighting enabled, but, as an example, FSDT LAS didn't. Other airports didn't with only the dynamic lights on my aircraft. Having aircraft DL and turning off individual airports isn't a bad compromise for me. Is anyone else noticing anything similar? 5800x3d Asus 4090 ROG Strix OC 2TB SSD 32GB Ram
June 27, 20187 yr Ok, it seems that updating the client alone does not replace the prepar3d.cfg. Might be worth deleting the prepar3d.cfg and let 4.3 build a new one and only then return to your previous settings. I will certainly do this the next time I have time... June 27, 20187 yr After updating to 4.3 I can see difference in performance in VR. Now I can fly PMDG planes with heavy weather in AS and have smooth experience. That wasn't possible in 4.2. Lukasz Kulasek i7-8700k, RTX 2080 TI, 32 GB RAM, ASUS TUF Z370-PRO Gaming, Oculus Rift CV1

The F35 simulators come to mind. I think I read that they use a lot of the Prepar3d programing. It would be pretty costly to stop production of the F35's while waiting for a new model from the Dev's. Surely you don't have to upgrade to a new platform version if your purposes are for actual training. You continue with the functional version and run a new version in parallel or implement it once everything is completed. The thinking you have suggested seems very similar to the thought process of an academic end user. There is no need for a commercial user of the platform to upgrade at all simply because it has a new rendering/graphics engine. That key difference between us and them is exactly that - function above form. But what do I know. Maybe the F35 Sim folks run secret forums of their own with forum topics like 'Guess the date of V5? ' - and then slag each other off all day for their silly suggestions. ' I couldn't imagine where else that would happen.

Which makes me think, as I've been thinking for quite some time already, that 'home users' are more important to LM than people here often think. A lot of the improvements from the last years (if not all...) aren't needed at all for serious training. Their visit to Vegas and all their interviews and contacts there with 'hobbyists' also show me that we are in it for the future.

June 27, 20187 yr I don't know why you guys don't do a complete reinstall. I managed to drop the partition, reinstall windows, P3Dv4, orbx and all my airports and aircraft in 16 hours. Stated at 10 yesterday and was finished by 2am. Is worth putting in the time

June 27, 20187 yr 16 hours you call "worth the effort"? Seriously? So far I never had any issue with just installing the client, takes me 2 minutes... And btw., re-installing Windows is certainly NOT what is needed and you also have ZERO benefit from this... Re-Installing P3D might help if you have a messed up installation, there I agree.
