Very insightful, thanks.

For Example: The higher you fligh the darker gets the ground. That can be done with Expressions.

I've been watching this closely since last year, and I think this will be transformative once released.  Can't wait- I hope it's imminent...Shader tweaks on-the-fly and a bunch of other goodies.  You can keep up to date on the progress at the environment force developer blog at the Rex site as well.  Good stuff on the horizon.  Meanwhile, for those who like to play with PTA or Tomato, did you know that there is a key command you can assign in 4.5 that will allow you to refresh/recompile shaders without exiting the sim?  That alone is a huge feature that can make tweaking easier until this comes out.

Yes, there is now a 'reload shaders' function you can assign in the control options.

Is this kind of like ASCA but on a higher level? Or would ASCA be redundant if using this?

Thanks

A little bit skeptical about this, but let´s watch the discord session to really appreciate what exactly is being offered by REX, and to know which of the textures addons we already have (like REX TD+SC, ENVTEX, ENVSHADE, for instance) would be in some way affected or may need to be replaced by this one.

Pause the flight, play with settings, un pause and look at enviroment. Pause the flight, play with settings, un pause and look at environment. Repeat... repeat..... I'm affraid I would spend more time adjusting settings than flying so I would have force myself to stay on auto mode. I wonder if all this goodness will have a performance/fps hit somewhere in the sim?

Good question. In some way it´s answered in the first minutes of the video posted above, as REX mentions the new app will work "outside" the simulator, so it won´t affect FPS. Interesting!.

Some shader tweaks have their impact on performance.

Haze, raleigh scattering, lighter clouds for instance. The more real you make it look, the more fps it will cost .

However, if with no tweaks you are getting 39 fps and with tweaks 34 and you are using Vsync / 30 hertz you won’t notice the difference.

Myself, I have my 3 4K displays running at 25 hertz so I am able to squeeze out some more detail while the Sim stays smooth.

All those developments are good for us flightsimmers ...

Shader tweaks.

Will this have any influence on PBR textures? I remember PMDG stating that shader tools/tweaks may negatively impact how their PBR aircraft looked.

or is this something else?

As long as I can make changes while flying I'll go for it....bit tired getting in and out adjusting PTA. PTA is nice but makes me tired while I find setting that suits me.....Downloaded their presets, but either to green....to blue not to my liking. Hopefully this will make breakthrough....

So now we'll have to start 3 programs (AS, EF, SF) before running our sim.

Unless EF automatically opens Skyforce which would be useful.
