Yeah, because FSX wasn't a plane game or FS9 😛

Haha, they are all plane games but some people get really cr*ppy if you say that. FSX and FS9 are simulation plane games. Saying it like that should keep everyone happy. So to clarify my post, PMDG only do simulation plane games so I expect them to take no part in the new MSFS.

Those two definitely won't happen and I'll be willing to bet serious money on that.

I second that. People are getting misled by the mention of Azure AI.

I'm almost sure Azure won't be streaming the scenery, most likely it will help to build the scenery replacing tasks that would be necessary to be done by hand. Tasks like color correcting the photoimagery, autogen annotation, building the vectors of the scenery etc.

Interesting. I saw an Nvidia add today that featured the new Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Yep, you're gonna need a 2080 Ti for the ray tracing they're showing off in that hangar shot.  😬

You posted a guess based on the fact that the planes and ground looked pretty, backed that guess up with no evidence, and then started posting as though your guess was journalistically-established fact.

Nothing posted in here is "worthwhile info," because there isn't any info to post about yet. It's all people sitting around chewing the fat and guessing about what might come to be.

No, I'm looking to find something I can show you all. You will have to take my word for what i tell you.

I don't doubt that MS has the ability to roll their own, but I remember that MsFlight showed them dragging in a lot of off-the-shelf stuff (the credits were several pages long and listed literally dozens of companies) to get the sim out the door relatively quickly, and they might be inclined to go the same route now. Its other sims that constantly reinvent the wheel with proprietary solutions.

I'd be very surprised if MS allows any other company to "share" any of the core code base - if the new sim includes weather, clouds, etc.  MS will stake claim over the entire thing.  I think MS would buy that part and include it, but licensing wise, I think it will be MS baby.  I figure this because I stayed at a Holiday In  Express last night.

I made some freeze frames showing some of the issues:

Did you make some freeze frames showing some of the improvements?

1. The entire downtown area is almost perfectly like the real world, right down to the sidewalks and bushes.

2. The interstate, I-69, is elevated in Houston and it is elevated in the sim.

3. The scenery detail in that video of downtown Houston is insane and isn't limited to a small circle, there are details out to the horizon (upper left corner).

4. The AI traffic is flowing on the elevated interstate, complete with dynamic shadowing that moves with the vehicles.

That's just for the downtown Houston shot.  There is a ton of improvements in the sim, especially if you take the time to watch the DA62 in the hangar.  That's in game video.  Now I realize they may have done some post processing on the video... but, still.

Let's not spend all the time point out flaws only, there's so much more improvement that's being ignored.

Thats quite a lot of data actually, 2000 terrabyte...that might be even more than Orbx TE NL and UK combined!!! 😉

Here is something to start. I will cease to post on this topic because clearly people just want to carry on with their Christmas wish lists.

Heh, dropping a 20 minute YouTube video from a random YouTuber as evidence, expecting people to watch it all and then you decide to bounce? Aha.

So true and honestly this computational approach to scenery that leverages the work they’re already doing for their mapping product is absolutely the best way to do this moving forward.

No independent third-party developer is going to be able to keep up with changes over time nor justify the cost of investment in getting it so accurate compared to a mapping platform that has all sorts of other reasons to be working on it at the same time.
