However, the photogrammetry is very sparse, only select areas have it. So that might mean FS2020 (I'm coining that name) will have to rely on autogen as well, to fill out the areas, unless they magically made the whole world in photogrammetry without updating Bing.

Microsoft has two mapping services, Bing-Maps, its free service and Azure-Maps for enterprise customers. I dont have any numbers but Azure-Maps seems to be offering significantly more coverage than bing maps. Reason might be that Azure-Maps-Service provides raw-data for further processing by enterprise customers, while Bing-Maps contains already processed data.

I guess we can safely assume that FS2019/2020 gets Azure-Maps data

Good point. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. Same goes with how their world coverage of photoscenery, as the Bing data is way too poor and inconsistent to cover large parts of the world, so I assume they also have some cleaned up enterprise data / new set of satellite data ready for that

What about it? It's literally a random, no-name small YouTuber that has an opinion. Just saying words. It's not objective evidence, it's not facts from a credible source, it's literally just a guy with an opinion -- Like you, or me, or the guy you were talking to. Just because you throw your opinion up on YouTube, doesn't mean it has more credibility or heft. It's not something you use in a discussion.

Well the YouTuber did introduced himself as being a MS Insider and Beta tester of the new MS Flight Simulator, which doesn't make it fact, but....  Nevertheless, he makes so many claims about what it is and what it isn't.  I'll take this video with a grain of salt until I see official releases from MS.

I checked my place in the UK and it's certainly not that detailed. Looked ok as it would from a plane two or three zooms out but any closer and it was rubbish.

Give people power to really test their personality.

I’m sorry but that video is absolutely hot garbage. I wouldn’t get advice on where to eat lunch from that guy.

I think it’s important that we all keep in context what we are comparing to.

If the comparison is what things look like in real life we should be holding up that same standard for existing flight simulation scenery.

On a relative basis what we saw in that trailer basically blows away everything out there right now which is what really matters here.

I spent a good bit of time comparing it to the true earth Washington Seattle scenery since that can be seen in the trailer clip and they’ve already basically beaten true earth which hasn’t even released yet itself

Microsoft comes back and gets slammed nothings changed then.

I signed up for Insider, and installed the Xbox insider hub app.  The fact that it doesn't have Flight Simulator in my tab means its too early?  Or does it mean I won't be a part of it no matter what?  I'd like to be a beta tester.  Was this Youtube guy full of it like perhaps the rest of his video that he's part of it?

I’m an MS insider for several products as well, you basically just sign up and thats it, nothing glorious about it. MS FS insider hasnt even started yet and his puny 1.3k subscribers wont make him influental enough to enjoy non-public-beta access

And the fact that this announcement has taken EVERYONE by surprise (apart from Aerosoft perhaps) shows that none of the self proclaimed internet celebrities had access to this before...you cant keep a secret once they get involved, they will sell their grandma for views and likes

Here is something to start. I will cease to post on this topic because clearly people just want to carry on with their Christmas wish lists.

OK, I watched about 30 seconds of that, around the 6 minute mark as suggested elsewhere.

I don't mean to be negative, but I wasn't that impressed. In fact, my comment to this chap would be:

"Mr. Random YouTuber, what you’ve just said here on your channel is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent video were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

"To prove that I'm not baselessly speculating and pretending it's fact, here's a baseless speculator on Youtube speculating without basis!"

The really fun part about that video is where he says things like "I don't know this for a fact, but I believe..." (5:16)

Thats clearly a NDA enforced statement, i dont have the slightest doubt. They have been caught red-handed!

I like the fact that down at the bottom of your post it says 'Mathijs and 2 others reacted to this.'

Yes, I know that the 'Mathijs' who has been posting on this thread says he's not the Aerosoft guy. Then again, that's exactly what Mathijs Kok would have to say if he wants to chat with us here about MSFS! 😉

hahaha, i was thinking the same when the notification popped up 😄

Its like he would love to tell us about it but those guys in black suits and sunglasses behind him keep watching him, so he communicates with us through other means, smart guy!

Off topic but...

I love his quote from their forums, "That's why we spend so much time on Connected Flight Deck. Flying an Airbus on your own is silly and illegal. It's like simulating a heart attack of your co-pilot in every single flight."

Never thought of it like that but it makes a lot of sense.  I am sure people have a lot to say about their final product in sim but it's a good philosophy. Maybe there will be some cool audio recognition in MSFS since windows and the whole Cortona thing and their technology seem to be big on that type of stuff.
