June 21, 20196 yr Love the new one, far better than the old one, and that's my opinion, one of which I am entitled to. The end.
June 21, 20196 yr I like it but I think the flag in the tail could be smaller and look like it is waving in the wind. Canada's looks similar so they are just copying Canada again 😅 Edited June 21, 20196 yr by Matthew Kane Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

June 21, 20196 yr Trying to remain non-political here, but I think this is relevant. It's been suggested that the current occupant doesn't like the design because it's associated with JFK, a democrat, and the predominant color is blue, which is currently associated with that political party. However, that association is more recent than when the color scheme was decided. When color TV started to replace black and white TV, news stations used blue and red randomly to describe the two parties on maps during election season. Sometimes Republicans were shown as blue on the map. The convention of red for Republicans and blue for Democrats wasn't formalized until somewhere in the late 70's or early 80's. With things being a sensitive as they are these days, I suppose there might be an argument for a more neutral color scheme with equal blue and red representation. Personally, I think that's nuts. It should keep the original and iconic color scheme. You can't mistake this livery for anything else in the world, and it should remain this way. The Canadian design curves the border between the underside and the white upper works - and mirrors the curve on the tail - all of which lightens the look and adds a sense of motion. So I'll stand on guard for thee... 😎 Also - thinking a little more about polished metal aircraft - as much as I like the look, it wouldn't work for a presidential aircraft because people would take it as purely military. Not that military aircraft are polished metal anymore, but people still associate bare metal with the Air Force. The presidential aircraft goes on a lot of "soft power" missions, so something that bridges civilian and military is called for. Which means paint. A good point, but the current paint scheme includes some polished metal: https://images.app.goo.gl/tJukXJzYE3osWgbJ6 It's a nice balance between the painted surfaces and bare. Of course, on a 747 that's a lot of real estate to polish... so, me no volunteer! Greg

June 21, 20196 yr @KevinAu - you're right, I totally missed that. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
June 21, 20196 yr @KevinAu Well I was only 10 years out, I did say it looked like a mid-90s airline, I should've said mid-00s. ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.
June 21, 20196 yr Lemme try this again with less acrimony. The old design is iconic and graceful. This new one is ugly. Keep the blue part on top... June 21, 20196 yr If you look closely at one of the proposed designs, you will see that it is the same as the President has on his personal 757, except upside down.
June 21, 20196 yr A new design is all it is and it is NOT permanent. All presidents are allowed to have the design they want. The Air Force will have it repainted by the military contractor, Boeing or the contractor who gives the best price. I have no problem with any designs. I like the current one but obviously we are in the 21st Century and nearing the 22d and the USA is wealthier than in the early 60's. It would be "pocket-change" for the quick design change. The next president can change it back or come up with his/her own design. Simple as all that. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! June 21, 20196 yr To clarify, the new paint scheme is slated to be applied to the two new 747-8's that the Air Force bought last year and to be delivered in 2024. https://www.defensenews.com/air/2018/07/18/boeing-gets-air-force-one-contract-and-next-gen-air-force-ones-to-get-a-new-paint-job/ Greg

I don't think anyone is suggesting otherwise. We're just talking about whether we like the design or not, which is a matter of taste - it has nothing to do with the president's right to choose it, or any other for that matter.
