September 27, 20196 yr Any and all naysayers have the right to offer their opinions, even at this early stage of development and testing: But I'm much too excited about the brief glimpses given to us of 2020 to really care about nitpicking at the moment...

Allegedly, this Twitcher Chewwey is allowed to talk about his secret visit to Microsoft on Monday. Attention, pure speculation!

However, if that video is not real time, but sped up, then fading in/out could appear as popping I guess. In any case some clouds disappear when others do not and I very much doubt the elapsed "sim time" of the sequence is enough for any clouds to be vanishing/appearing like that. Unless I'm looking at completely the wrong thing (the very small "clouds" in the centre), are you sure that they're not water highlights? If they are clouds, very small clouds in the real world can build and disappear sometimes over just a few minutes (depending on atmospheric conditions) and if the video is being sped up, that could be what we're seeing rather than "popping". September 27, 20196 yr “Cloud popping is this week’s “frame stutters.” Still a bit worried about seasons.

Makes no sense because I don’t know who Connor is.

I suspect whatever engine they are using (Forzatech?) has never had to deal with such extended visibility ranges. But sure, lets all just tell MS how much we love what we see, like popping clouds (and probably autogen), and then they won't have to bother trying to fix the issue now in Alpha (or ever). Come on. Do you really think they are going to do this level of detail but not do something as simple as fix pop-in, which has been solved for 15 years with alpha fade? I've watched the video several times and don't see even see it. What you are probably seeing is clouds growing in size over time via a sped up video (we've seen videos where they dynamically build and dissipate like real clouds). It's a pre-alpha build. And if you look at the first shot, the lights go further into the horizon than any sim we've ever had and it's not even close. That's 3-4x further than XP11's draw distance for dynamic lights. Building a shader based system to do seasons would likely come after they finish the underlying features of the world. I also think it's possible we simply don't have seasons on release. But if you tell me I can have what's in these videos visually or a low-res generic white texture to fly over, I'll just enjoy perpetual summer. Edited September 27, 20196 yr by bonchie
September 27, 20196 yr I’m also starting to think seasons won’t make version 1.0, but how long into the development of fsx did they release screenshots of different seasons?
