I guess Microsoft's idea of inviting people for tech alpha 1 involves finding some poor old bloke running an old 9800 GT in the middle of Antartica on a 1 Mbps satellite internet connection.  Lucky b*****d. 😂

If that were the case they should have already invited me.

Anyway I have the feeling that nobody has been invited yet actually. Even if there was a clear instruction in the e-mail not to tell anyone that you've been accepted, I'm sure there would be at least one person disregarding that and parading around.

Is there an actual definition of what an alpha is and what a beta is? I’ve tested ‘betas’ that barely worked, and tested ‘alphas’ that were basically release-worthy and just had a couple of fundamental bugs that were fixed quickly, and it was more about just adding content over time. Seems like a label to manage expectations more than anything else these days.

Beta is supposed to be feature complete. That's the main difference.

Yes I'm very lucky, I've been downloading the tech alpha since October 17 and my estimate time until it is downloaded is somewhere on November 4, can't wait to start downloading some photogrammetry area's next month! But it doesn't matter since I will be away for the rest of the week to fetch a food dropping with my sled and hounds a few hundred kilometers south from here. I just hope they will deliver the fuel for my generators in time for the download to finish.

I dunno, I think they are leaving their homework pretty late lol.  I think it's gonna be a very limited release and most of the people they decided to invite probably would have been invited already.

Yeah I very much doubt anything wider than a small group of people who are used to this sort of thing, and have some sort of actual stake in the sim’s future (I.e a few key developers) have been invited. Either that or nothing has gone out yet.

If that was the case then they wouldn't have (or at least shouldn't have) opened up a tech alpha that anyone could apply for. It would just lead to negative feeling and all they would have to do is privately invite the pre-known "select" list directly.

Regardless, patience is a virtue (that I don't possess) 😉

Some peeps have been notified of their acceptance. From what I can tell it seems like you can talk about getting into the programme, but nothing beyond that unless stated otherwise.

How do you know?

The scenery streaming infrastructure would probably be overloaded and nobody would be able to test for quite some time.

What a wonderful day this is! Blue skies and the birds are singing! 😄
