I just saw the 2 two videos..... I can't believe that guy got selected as an alpha tester. I don't care what his PC specs were, that wasn't testing.

So odd to see a tester test an Alpha so poorly but then I guess testing variety is the name of the game. Just sad to see such poor piloting skills.

A bit of snobbery here, don't you think? Yes he was stupid for leaking it and showing his face, but to claim he shouldn't be alpha testing the sim because he can't pilot a virtual aircraft just shows the elitist attitude some simmers have. For some people (likely the majority) it's a game, a bit of fun, for others it's a serious simulator. Microsoft want to sell this to both, so to limit alpha testing to hardcore checklist simmers is just silly. They need feedback from everyone.

Based on all the info they've released so far, the target audience is everyone. It sounds like you can make the sim super realistic, or super simple.

You can already do the same with FSX/P3D. I don't know what X-Plane's realism settings are like.

Haven’t you heard?

XP is the MOST realistic simulation of flying ever even dreamt of..

I’ve heard it’s more realistic than flying in a real airplane!

/s. 🤣

I highly doubt his graphic settings were set to ultra because that looked mediocre compared to footage shown by Asobo. Also garbage flying skills and 720p. Watching it gave me strong vibes of my p3d 4.5 build which has ofcourse tons of addons. The lighting is miles better though. Just my personal opinion so no flamethrowers please.

In my experience it's no different. It's as realistic as you want it to be and how good your imagination is. For most who use these, it's a computer screen and simple yoke, how realistic can it be 🙂

Two things. It looked about as much better than FSX as X-Plane 11 now looks better than X-plane 10. I have to say that from what I've seen I would anticipate that the competition between Prepar3D V5, X-Plane 12 and Microsoft Flight Simulator will not be the slam dunk that everyone thinks its going to be. I have to say that I'll eat my hat if MSFS meets the expectation that exist regarding this sim.

Actually one of the videos is the guy flying over Venezuela, and I´ve never seen something as good in p3d or x-plane11 for latinamerica and the other one is in italy thru rainy clouds and lightning, and that is far ahead of those simulators.

And by the way that guy flies I don´t really think he cares too much about alphas, betas or NDA´s.

Cheers

Carlos

Of course I told them that on the survey.

Didn't know, didn't want to be part of the alpha, because I didn't want to be bound by the NDA.

I assume it's relevant.

Me to. Tin foil hat in me says the reason for no gliders is they don't want much in the way of RW pilots critiquing their work, and those glider pilots are bigger on realistic flight than any other group I know - and there are lots of them.

Nothing else seems to make sense, they need a good glide model even for powered birds, and decent scenery would be catnip for them.

I hope the Alpha tester forums open up before much longer...

I really want to bounce some stuff off other testers

I've seen the vids too and I disagree with that sentiment.  I honestly loved seeing non curated real use vids of the sim, and I'm more exicted than ever now because of it.  If I could pre-order MFS now I would, and I very rarely pre order software of any kind.  The clouds alone make the MFS a massive upgrade over anything we have available today.  And that is even with the vids being low res with youtube compression.

I hope for the beta phase Microsoft drops the NDA and allows the user media to flow, because all of that free marketing will make this new sim sell absolutely BONKERS.

No, I don't agree. Probably in the scheme of things, just like helicopters, it's of lower interest. Most simmers seem to want jets followed by Cessnas. They'll come, in time

I for one am absolutely happy with what I‘ve seen.

i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2

Watching the "storms" video, I am blown away by the weather... This is looking sensational.

For the first time i really want to avoid storms. With sims today, i couldnt care less.

not like helicopters - that I can understand, because heli flight model is much much harder to get right, and we are a tiny market.

gliders otoh, they already have all the important models from fsx, systems are super simple, the flight model needs doing anyway, and they are the biggest market of RW pilots, so if RW pilots are anywhere near a target audience you would start with them.
