Yes, that issue is far more conspicuous and jarring in the Dubai screenshot from the latest update than any other I have seen. Something else I noticed is an AI generated building in the lower right portion of the same screenshot is far shorter than the burnt in shadow indicates it should be. Having said that, I noticed Bing has much better ortho imagery than Google for Dubai, so Google isn't always better - it varies. February 28, 20206 yr A big shout-out Thanks to the Alpha Tester Screenshot Credit ID: Parorng for doing the latest screen capture shots of Australia and New Zealand. The name of this picture has been previously been referred to as "Shortgrass.png" in this topic posting. It is actually New Zealand, Queenstown Airport threshold for runway 23 and is a ground view point of the Taxiway Alpha Holding point for runway 23, with the Cessna Skyhawk waiting for departure off runway 23 with the Queenstown Hill hidden behind the tail and fuselage and with one of the Lake Hayes Hills off on the right in the background. Australia outback scene of the Cessna Caravan doing a scenic flight around Uluru, aka Ayers Rock with the interesting Thunder Storm weather system in the background.
February 28, 20206 yr Shadow length only works if you know what time of day the picture was taken 1pm? Short shadow, 6 pm loooooong shadow
February 29, 20206 yr Just looking over the new pics again and I had a moment of wonder realizing by the end of the year I'll be flying a sim with THAT level of detail and accuracy. Man am I excited for this sim.
February 29, 20206 yr One of the things that always bugged me about the most recent default simulators is when you're flying in the evening and night - the runway lights are WAY TOO bright from a distance. However, in the first screenshot (besides the header one), in Switzerland, those landing lights look exactly like they would in real life for a smaller regional airport. Awesome!
February 29, 20206 yr Shadows will always be an issue with orthos. But anyone that’s flown Ortho4XP knows the pros far outweigh the cons.

The problem is that the runway lights can be usually dimmed in 10% steps and during nighttime in good viz they are between 10-20% brightness. We don't have that in the old sims. New generation of sim, AI processing, Azure blah blah blah 😉 I don’t want to see double shadows. The undulation is unperceptible in the pic but if they say so, I suppose it is undulated. I do agree, the pros do outweigh the cons, but will they always be an issue? ..... 19 minutes ago, domkle said: New generation of sim, AI processing, Azure blah blah blah 😉 I don’t want to see double shadows. Like domkle, I would prefer not to see double shadows. Azure AI is being used to remove clouds from orthos, so we can certainly hope MS figures out a way to remove or reduce the shadows from them. Not a deal breaker as it still looks better than what we currently have IMO, but it would still be desirable. February 29, 20206 yr Don't worry what`s not in this version MSFS version 2 may have it as I don't see MS changing the 2year product rollout, update investment will be needed they are not in it for love. Raymond Fry.
February 29, 20206 yr MSFS VERSION 2?? Anyhow,we all know that this is an alpha release, of which there may be more, then comes the beta release, maybe also a few, then the release candidate version.. Maybe the double sun causing double shadows will be fixed sometime by then. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
