And there's no limit to the size of the group if its one family. So they simply say they are out exercising whether they are or not. The government are defining exercising as walking, running, cycling. I was referring to the people I had seen with toddlers in their arms, kids in prams, carry harnesses etc which I mentioned in my previous post, and that is a no brainer that they are not out exercising, since what exercise is a child being carried in a harness, or pushed in a pram getting? Not to mention that to be of use, exercise has to be at a fairly reasonable pace, not people meandering along and stopping to chat to people, as the ones I saw were doing. They quite clearly were ignoring the request to limit contact with others and you didn't exactly need to be Hercule Poirot to work that one out. March 24, 20206 yr One of the heroes of our times is, in my humble opinion, Nathan Sharanski. Hero for all freedom loving people. In 2006, the President of the United States awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. A mathematician, he was jailed for 9 years in the Soviet Union, half of it in solitary confinement. He knows a word or two about quarantine. He recently made a video on You Tube to give 5 tips on how to keep one's sanity. In my city we are over 200 miles from the closest case. Yet we are acting like everyone we see when we are out and about is infected and should be avoided. I'm not staying at home. I went to the supermarket. I talked to the people in the checkout line. Few of us are wearing masks. Some of us might come down with it. But not many overall. Your chances of getting hit by a drunk or texting driver are greater than contracting the virus. 24 cases on the 19th of March. Per the governor of New Mexico the number today (24March, 2020) is 83. Over 300% in 5 days. If the statistics you're quoting were amassed before January, 2020, they are outdated because Covid-19 is not included. Yes, testing has increased so the number of positives will also increase. But before the testing they were, like you, going to the grocery and interacting with other people. No way to tell how many others they infected before their quarantine. Currently more than 50% of the people testing positive are not showing signs of the virus. Yep, that is defined as exercise. If you are stuck at home with a kid, no child care then you exercise with the child. Which means all the paraphernalia comes too. Exercise doesn't mean jogging in track suite, any physical activity is defined as exercise. Going for walk, whether its with child in a pushchair or not, is exercise. It might not be intense exercise but its exercise. You cant fine people on that basis. Quote what exercise is a child being carried in a harness, or pushed in a pram getting? None. But the parent is. Quote Not to mention that to be of use, exercise has to be at a fairly reasonable pace, not people meandering along and stopping to chat to people, as the ones I saw were doing. I agree, they might well be being disingenuous and using "exercise" as an excuse to get out, that was my point. But the government haven't issued a directive in regard to the intensity of activity that is defined as exercise. They have said "walk" for exercise, thus defining walking as exercise. Pushing a child in a pushchair may not stimulate muscular hypertrophy or a reasonable degree of aerobic conditioning, but its still exercise, its still activity. And of course, it would be a bit silly if the government started issuing instructions as to the degree of intensity you must be exercising at. For example, I have a back injury. Now there was a time when just a slow stroll was optimal for me. Beneficial for my back. Exercise doesn't have to be beneficial in an aerobic or anaerobic sense. Sun exposure too, for vitamin D. March 24, 20206 yr There is nothing stopping a couple from exercising one at a time if they insist on doing it by going for a walk, whilst the other minds the child. A new born child will have little in the way of immunity and it's therefore not a great idea to be unnecessarily exposing the youngster to a potential infection, and this of course also assumes that neither parent picks something up whilst out and takes it back to the kid anyway. You can do exercises in your house, sit ups, pull ups, stretches, tai chi etc. I do that every day. Yes it's nice to go out for a walk, but it's also nice to think about others and not go out unnecessarily, which is what we've been asked to do anyway for a very good reason. All I'll say is... I live just outside of Washington, DC, and last week was peak blossom for the cherry trees down by the Tidal Basin, which is a major tourist attraction. Last Friday it was a mob scene down there - people jamming the walkways to go have a look. Starting Saturday, they had the police come in and close off all the surrounding roads so no one could get in. If they'd used a taser or two here and there, a lot of people all across the political/cultural spectrum would have been fine with it. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery

On another bright note, I too am now in possession of a more than sufficient supply of TP. Even Amazon was out of stock. My handyman managed to buy a case of 80 rolls at a commercial supply store for $85 and dropped off six rolls for me. Later yesterday he bought me an 18 roll pack of Charmin Ultrasoft. Indiana's Governor issued a 'stay at home' order last Friday. I just checked a state map with current Covid-19 confirmed cases and deaths. Lake county, in the far northwest corner of the state, now has 17 confirmed cases and 0 deaths. Statewide there are 365 confirmed and 12 deaths. I suspect the cases in my county came from the Chicagoland area of Illinois as about 1/4th of the residents work in Illinois. The true number of infected I believe is much higher statewide, since only 2,931 persons have been tested so far. EDIT: I forgot to mention that as far as compliance in Lake County is concerned, my home is on a rather busy east/west street. I note that the traffic is way down. I'm seeing an average of less than 2 cars/hour passing by, and many of those are Hammond Police doing their rounds. Fr.
