March 24, 20206 yr Here's some data for today - this is from Dr. Katelyn Jetelina, an epidemiologist at UTHealth (aka the University of Texas School of Public Health) in Dallas. Recommended as a source by a friend I trust who's a hospital physician in Houston. The page should be readable even if you're not a Facebook member. If you can't get at it, let me know and I'll do a screenshot. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery

When annoyed she would shout at 120dB with much arm waving. Worst thing you could do was laugh but it was funny. 😁 Being married to an Italian babe I can certainly relate to that. Once the arm waving starts the best thing you can do is take cover and don't say a word. Absolutely. But then the new restrictions say that you CAN do so as a family. You can go for a walk as a family. So that's why they are. Quote A new born child will have little in the way of immunity and it's therefore not a great idea to be unnecessarily exposing the youngster to a potential infection I agree with you. Don't forget, I was the one that criticised them for it. But the point, is that you cant fine them for doing what the new restrictions tell them they can do. Quote You can do exercises in your house, sit ups, pull ups, stretches, tai chi etc. I do that every day. You can indeed. I know. But the new restrictions say you CAN go outside and walk. So obviously they will. Quote Yes it's nice to go out for a walk, but it's also nice to think about others and not go out unnecessarily, which is what we've been asked to do anyway for a very good reason. Well yes, but they've also been told they can go out for a walk, as a family, no restrictions on numbers, if its the same family, for one hour per day. I agree with you its not a good idea. Which is why I was the one that complained about the number of people I have seen today, walking jogging riding bikes, casually strolling past my house. I also predicted that in short order the "you can go out to exercise" will be abandoned. With so many people now at home, all being given an one hour "exercise outside" allocation, it's pretty obvious why I'm seeing so many people in my street. And like I said, fining people for it is going to be almost impossible. Unless the authorities recruit thousands of psychic enforcers. Give it a week, and you can bet Boris Johnson will appear on TV and tell us no more one hours exercise outside per day.

Reminds me of a wonderful old film called 'The Secret of Santa Vittoria', with Anthony Quinn playing the drunken mayor of a small Italian town, with his wife played by Anna Mascagni as the classic Italian housewife. My handyman managed to buy a case of 80 rolls at a commercial supply store for $85 and dropped off six rolls for me. Later yesterday he bought me an 18 roll pack of Charmin Ultrasoft. 80 rolls!!!! You are now officially an evil panic buyer. 😁

If I walked past your house on my own with no one within several yards of me would that be a problem? If you’re saying it is then why would that be putting anyone at risk? People only become a risk when they’re close to another person. The action of walking whilst observing the 6 feet rule is not against the pending law. I’ll be taking a far higher risk on Friday when I go to a supermarket to shop. People taking exercise in fresh air whilst keeping their distance from others won’t be banned because it’s unenforceable and not a risk anyway. Ray (Cheshire, England). It reduces the risk of aerosol transmission. When an infected person coughs or sneezes, some of the droplets can carry significantly further, but it will be a small percentage in most cases. In any breeze you do not want to be downwind of such an event or you are at some risk. As always it's a matter of what is reasonable, and there is the problem, but supermarket shopping is probably well up the list of possible risks. John B
March 24, 20206 yr ProPublica reporting that US doctors are stockpiling touted COVID-19 meds (chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine) for themselves and their families. I might be wrong but it seems to me that ProPublica is a reliable and reputable source. I have often enjoyed their collaboration with PBS; namely. But I'm no expert in the area of journalism in the US. If this story is indeed accurate; it`s disturbing as many will interpret it as a licence to serve themselves. source: https://www.propublica.org/

I worked with the founders when they were at the Wall Street Journal. They're the best in the business. This is extremely disturbing. I hope these doctors are a minority, and the majority is represented by the retired professionals who are going back into the line to help treat patients. But human nature being what it is... I can't say I'm surprised. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
March 25, 20206 yr Moderator @Biggles2010, we are getting into the realms of the extremely unlikely here. The chances of someone sneezing and the virus being transported in open air over 2 metres are so low as to be unrealistic. Did you know that in 2018 an average of 1,489 people died every day in the U.K.? The same number are probably dying now but that is never mentioned by the media. I’m happy to take my chances in the open air. The risk remains slight. Ray (Cheshire, England).
