To each his or her own! There are some things I regret in my life as well, but buying v5 is not one of them. 🙃

Levity aside, it really is a personal choice. v5 has plenty of benefits, but comes with a new list of bugs, problems and gotchas...

I do agree that if you're going to buy it at some point, the sooner you buy it, the lower the amortized cost over the lifetime of the product will be, so upgrade early if you're going to upgrade at all and just keep both sims and see what makes you happy... That's what I did, but v4.5 hasn't been launched in over a month.

5800X3D | Radeon RX 6900XT

Lets face it.. some people want to get their fingers into the "new thing" early, and are willing to suffer the startup issues..

Others would rather lean back and wait until the user reports are "all clear"..

Nothing wrong with either approach 🙂

I went early, almost returned it for a refund, and am now quite happy with this release.. Have not started up 4.5. in a while..

Bert

Well I've just asked to cancel the refund, as I am still able to login and view the purchase. 🙂

Beech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?
ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry.

X-Plane 12 and MSFS2020  🙂

System specs: Windows 11  Pro 64-bit, Ubuntu Linux 20.04 i7-13700KF  Gigabyte Z790 RTX-4060-Ti , 32GB RAM  1X 2TB M2 for X-Plane 12,  1x256GB SSD for OS. 1TB drive MSFS2020

I'm holding off until someone shows off the "realistic ATC" in the v5 description.

For me the answer was a resounding yes. Everyone has to decide for themselves. I don’t fly much in the big tubeliner sims, orbx worked for the most part, most of my GA stuff was just fine...I was willing to look past the issues for the performance increase and the EA, which totally changed the sim.

The answer is NO. Take a look at the new MS sim that will be released this year. It should justify why I say NO.

I agree that looks very tasty!

My favorite vineyard is also releasing a new vintage this year, but that does not keep me from opening a bottle of last year's vintage with dinner tonight.. 😉

I know this question is probably a lot like asking “should I upgrade to FS9 from FS8” or “is it worth it to upgrade to FSX from FS9” but indulge me.

I invested in P3D v4.x and have it running on a reasonably high end machine. It works pretty well connected to a 4K monitor. I don’t use VR and I’m mainly using photoscenery with A2A general aviation aircraft.

Is there a big driver to upgrade to v5? Can someone give me the top reasons to upgrade beyond it’s just the latest version? Is performance better? Worse? Is there a significant bug that’s fixed that changes things significantly?

This exact question has been asked and answered two dozen times on here.

for the typical heavy metal driver with all the heavy addons is the fps boost noticeable from v4 to v5? I havent noticed stutter free flying in v5.. still same old v4 bugs are there.. like texture lag and stutters.. granted i have only done 8 flights so far and lot more testing and tweaking to be done.. but still for tubeliners im not seeing a big fps benefit.. i see high fps but not steady fps.. and cant lock monitor at 30 hz coz it drops below 30 lot of times..

With regards to officially released airliners: Maddog is effectively stutter-free. A great performer. PMDG 747 is decent but not as smooth as the SuperTube.

As reported elsewhere, the patch for V5 is inbound next week. Assuming it sorts things out a bit, then it will definitely be worth making the switch.

Truesky clouds look pretty great over the UK where you fly - that's where I started my P3D v5 journey.

I know you upgraded to v4 like the week before v5 released so you want to get some value out of it - 🙂 - but, c'mon, just once you should try upgrading at the beginning rather than the end of the product cycle. It's fun!

Yup. Why should we be the only ones who suffer? Join us on the dark side! 🤣

I've yet to see a convincing argument for upgrading. Plus, I would have to buy a new rig. Spending a couple of grand to enjoy a $50 game? Yeah, that's not going to happen...
